Bridget's Quiet Corner (chaptersandscreens) Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare & Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell Although I own each book, I am listening to the audiobooks. I will sometimes read along, especially if there isn't something I'm getting or a word gets said that I may not understand and/or want to know the spelling to (especially in Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy). I listen Shadowhunter Academy when I'm on the computer usually and will listen to Fangirl at night when I'm laying down and/or using my 3DS (yes, I'm an adult woman with a 3DS lol)

Jenn Moss (jennmoss392) | 31 comments Hope no one minds if I resurrect this thread:

I'm working my way through Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy I started it once but set it aside when I realized it was part of a longer series--and not the first book. (I didn't know so many of Le Carre's books were linked.)

Well, I still haven't read the other books in the series, but I decided not to care. (Especially since I already know the basic story from the most recent film version.) So I've started from the beginning again--and I'm loving it! Can't believe I managed to put it down last time.

I am currently reading Doctor Zhivago and Henderson the Rain King. The two books are complete opposites. The first takes place in Russia and is a beautifully written historical novel. Henderson is set in Africa and is a very silly book but I am going to finish to find out how he gets out of the predicament he is in.

message 1206: by Cassie (new)

Cassie (Red Reading Hood) (ckdowell) Well I'm techinally reading three books that I was supposed to finish last year. But ever since I graduated College and became an adult I haven't had time to read so I'm reading one book at a time.

So the one I'm focusing on is : Mostly Void, Partially Stars (Welcome to Night Vale Episodes, #1) by Joseph Fink

Then I will either finish next : They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera The Princess Bride by William Goldman

I have been seeing this book all over the place - trying not to read to much of it, however, must be a sign to buy and read.

Looking forward to reading his book. Afternoon plans -- blanket, book, diet Pepsi and popcorn. Can't ask for a better plan.
Have a wonderful day

Just Finished reading Uncommon Type - some stories by Tom Hanks
Tom Hanks stars on the big screen and now I can say he stars as an author.
The symbolism in the last chapter brought a feeling of joy. I did not expect it to end the way it did - and I was definitely surprised. (can't discuss without spoiling it). I definitely recommend this book of short stories with one common thread between all of them. Out of the 17 stories written the placement of them allowed for a mixture of good solid writing with a mixture of Exciting short stories in between. Very happy that I had the opportunity to read this book.

Next book: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin

I just finished reading The Ice Cream Queen of Orchard Street and really wishing I had ice cream. As a well-written book, Susan Gilman tells the story of an immigrant coming to America wanting to live the "American dream" as she achieves the goal of going from living in the poorest neighborhoods to living the life of the rich many life lessons and educational lessons provided as this book is definitely a page-turner.
A wonderful read about my favorite food.

Michael | 26 comments Hi everyone: Have any of you read any of Clifford Irving's work? I am making my way through his book Final Argument, and I'm wondering if all his stuff is as tawdry as this is. Reading about a man's extramarital affair (and how he lies to his wife) is gross enough, but to hear about him being in a threesome with two women he is not married to was just uncalled for. Thoughts? I am stubborn enough not to abandon the book midway but I wanted to know if his other work is similar.

message 1247: by Anisha Inkspill (new)

Anisha Inkspill (anishainkspill) | 106 comments I've finished Sonnets from the Portuguese and started A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness .

I'm currently reading this along with Hindu Myths A Sourcebook by Anonymous and The Letters of Vincent van Gogh by Vincent van Gogh

The latter I am reading 2 editions simultaneously, the second one has all VG's letters, I've just realised how many all means. This is the longest book I've read, I'm now giving myself to the end of the year to finish it.

CaptKirk42 Classic Whovian (klandersen) | 455 comments Wow it has been a while since I've posted on this thread. Sometime middle of last year.

OK so right now I am lazily gliding through 1984. A sort of re-read for me. I think in High School I started to read it but never finished. Several years ago I saw the 1984 movie with John Hurt I should probably try to re-watch that sometime. I probably need to purchase a copy I don't think I have the DVD .

Anyway there are some aspects to 1984 that are eerily similar to some of today's society. Orwell was pretty right on with the huge telescreens all over the place.

CaptKirk42 Classic Whovian (klandersen) | 455 comments Dusting this thread off.

When I reread 1984 a few years ago I thought it was one of the scariest books I'd ever read, and things have just gotten worse in the world since then.
