Monica (nutz4reading) | 382 comments Good Luck Kat!

Here is my next book:

Shelf: Kick Ass Heroine
Book: Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs
Date finished: Nov. 3, 2013
Rate: 5 stars *****
Review:
This book was great. I am enjoying this series and know that I will be reading more of Mercy. Blood Bound has Mercy involved again with the vampires.

Mercy still cracks some jokes that make you chuckle as you read the book. I loved the interaction among Mercy, the werewolves and the vampires. Again we meet Stefan, Adam, Samuel and the others.

I love how she is a great kick ass heroine. She is so independent and yet in need. Mercy doesn't want to be controlled by anyone or so she thinks.

Light My Fire (Aisling Grey Guardian, #3) by Katie MacAlister Light My Fire by Katie MacAlister - ★★★ (11/3/2013)

Light, fluffy and the narrator obviously had a blast with the audiobook.

Aisling is still a bubble-headed ignorant mess who manages to get herself into trouble and then some more trouble to make things more interesting. Her insistence on doing things her way, when she knows very little about the world she's now a big part of and her habit of ignoring her problems until she's forced to deal with them, are things that make it hard for me to relate to her.

I may not like Aisling all that much but the narrator must have loved interpreting her and the various other characters judging by the audiobook. She sounds excited and enthusiastic and her feeling narration made the story more fun for me than reading it would have been.

The next and last book of this part of the series is Holy Smokes, which, if I decide to read, I'll make sure to get the audiobook version in hopes that the narrator is the same.

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments Done 3* Nov 3rd Married by Mistake Kick-Ass-Heroine
Not bad for a freebie. It kept me entertained even if I shook my head a few times (okay many times.). I don't think Casey is a kick-ass heroine, but somebody does. So thank you! I needed to get this off my TBR!
Casey is 25. She is way too nice and doesn't know how to say NO. She's also a bit stupid to think that marriage will assist her in leaving town (instead of just saying no! to people). So she surprises her fiance with a surprise wedding. He says no. Adam steps in. Adam is somewhat of a hateful, selfish little bastard. But wait! He redeems himself! Enter the magic mojo of romance novels. (Predictable, eh?) Casey learns how to say NO! Adam mellows. Everyone wins! HEA.

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments Okay, this is funny- someone shelved Waking Up Married by Mira Lyn Kelly on the dragons shelf. (page 129)
And I'm tempted since it's another freebie that I have....(not to mention I'm on a contemporary romance kick right now). Another one I know doesn't have dragons- To Taste Temptation (Legend of the Four Soldiers, #1) by Elizabeth Hoyt (pg 110)
It's so fun browsing to see what gets shelved...

Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne Hounded by Kevin Hearne ~ ★★★★ (11/5/2013)

I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook! The narrator did an excellent job and the story was fast paced and fun.

Atticus is a very interesting character and his dry humor and quick wit made me like him instantly. This story is about a crucible in his life, where he has to decide whether he runs and hides from a very old enemy once again or stays and sees their fight to its end.

I really enjoyed getting acquainted with his world and the various colorful characters he associates with and I'm looking forward to the next book of the series, Hexed.

Heat Stroke (Weather Warden, #2) by Rachel Caine Heat Stroke by Rachel Caine ~ ★★★★ - (11/6/2013)

It's been a long while since I read the first book in the series and I have to admit that I had forgotten many things about it, its atmosphere and its unique world.

Revisiting Joanne's world was a very enjoyable experience, made better by the narrator's interpretation in the audiobook. The world is complex and we get to learn a lot about Djinn in this part of the story along with Joanne.

The only part that was a bit frustrating was a few scenes at the end. (view spoiler)

I'm curious to see how this whole new mess will be dealt with in the next book in the series, Chill Factor, which I'll try not to take as long to get to as it took me to get to this one.

Week 1: Dragon Shelf

Fury of Desire (Dragonfury, #4) by Coreene Callahan by Coreene Callahan

Rating: 5 stars
Finished: 06/11/13

Review:
This is is book 4 in the Dragonfury series by Coreene Callahan and is also by far my favorite one of the series to date. I finally got the book I was waiting for because it centered around my favorite member of The Nightfury pack! Wick is by far the most tortured of all the brothers what with his horrible back ground and the suffering that he endured at such a tender young age, it was very heartbreaking. I'm just glad that he finally found the perfect woman to help him move on from his past and J.J. was just the right girl, smart, tough and with a terrible past of her own these two found something in each other that helped them both heal the tragedy of their pasts.

This was by far the best book in this series to date not I have the horrible task of waiting yet another year for the next book in the series. My only hope is that it will be about my next favorite dragon Forge he is one bad ass Scot that I so need to know more about :)

This was quite a different take on the classic Cinderella story! I did enjoy it a lot. I found some of the characters to be enjoyably quirky. I also found some of the characters to be very ick (and rightfully so). I felt that they were all written fairly well. I am very interested in how all the other books will tie together to create the overall story. Definitely an interesting read, that is for sure.

5* done this morning 11/8/13

Great beginning, lots of action. A bit confusing at first, but gets better as book progresses. The world building takes a little time to "get." Its done well and Jax is a perfectly imperfect character. She has many layers. This author most definitely a must.
My only issue would be the many interruptions over the last couple of days which made my reading a lot slower.

Review:
I've been meaning to read this since the movie first came out but just never got around to it but I'm sure glad that I finally got to pick up this little gem of a book. Cause at only 239 pages this little book packs quite a punch and I loved every word.

This story takes place in the not to distant future where the human race is living in fear of the zombies that live just outside their walls. Julie a young woman sent on a mission to retrieve supplies outside the wall is taken captive by a zombie named R, but R is different he's not all about killing and eating brains and soon begins a physical change that has him coming back to life and falling in love.

Now when I first found out this was a story about zombie love, I was like there is no way this is ever going to work, but work it did and I loved it that much more because it was just so different from anything that I read before. This is a great book if you haven't read it...Read It!!

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments How to Drive a Dragon Crazy (Dragon Kin, #6) by G.A. Aiken
Dragons
3* 11/9/13
How to drive a reader crazy. That's what the title should have been for this book.
This book was a bit of a disappointment. What happened to the sweet Eibhear of previous books? That's what made him unique and different from his brothers. Now, he's just like them. *sigh* The romance between Izzy and Eibhear was disappointing. After all the build-up from previous books this is it?
This series has grown so much there is a list of characters in the beginning of the book. This list is very helpful as there are so MANY characters it can be hard to remember who is who. Not to mention, more are introduced in this book not on said character list (yes, that's right. More.). That said, that is my favorite part about this series. I enjoy the world building. The interactions between everyone. It makes reading this series fun, if not confusing at times.
Good setup for future books with the next generation.

Kick Ass Heroine

Insurgent (Divergent, #2) by Veronica Roth by Veronica Roth

Finished:09/11/13
Rating: 5 stars

Review:
Insurgent pretty much picks up right where Divergent left off with Tris and Tobis making there way with a few others out of the ruined faction seeking refuge with anyone who will take them in.Not knowing who to trust our two main characters set forth on a roller coaster ride of betrayal, hardship and pain.

This book took me through so many emotional highs and lows that I really didn't know if I was coming or going. Tris's constant self doubt through out the book made me at time what to scream and the way she was always but unintentionally hurting Tobis was driving me boarder line insane, but above all that there was nothing that I didn't love about this book and I can't wait to read the next one!

Here are my choices for the shelves:

I just bought the Ender's Game book 2 weeks ago and now I have a reason to read it.

So I really don't know what to say about this book other than that it was extremely quirky...

The story just seemed to be kind of blah. The first half was a lot of world building. Some bits at the end just felt thrown in there. The language was strange, the names seemed to be an attempt at funny but not always hitting the mark...

I don't know, I read it, but it is definitely not one of those books that really sticks with you once you are done with it...

Book: Eragon by Christopher Paolini
Finished: Nov. 10, 2013
Rating: 5 stars
Review:

I enjoyed this book the first time I read it and enjoyed it just as much this time. Eragon is a boy that becomes a Dragon Rider. He is does not know who his father is and never got to know his mother.

Eragon finds a stone while hunting in the Spine and doesn't know anything about it. He tries to sell it but the butcher wants nothing to do with it. Eragon keeps the stone since his Uncle, Cousin and him are unable to find anyone to buy it.

That is when everything changes for Eragon. He becomes a Dragon rider and has to learn how to use magic, fight, defend himself and how to survive. Brom the storyteller is the one who starts to teach him.

Eragon, Saphira and Brom are on the run from the Empire during most of the book. Brom dies from injuries and Eragon learns that he was a Dragon Rider too. He also learns that Brom is the one that killed a Dragon rider named Morzan. Saphira and Eragon run into Murtagh.

There are many different beings in this series, dwarves, elves, dragons, wizards, sorcerers, werecat, witches and possibly more that I haven't met yet or remember. The story moved quickly and kept me enthralled and I will be reading the rest of these books.

1 lousy little star

Well thankfully this book is finally over. I would have given it 2 stars, but well, the ending was a complete rush and rather horrible.

What this book essentially is is The Matrix meets the afterlife. What make it even worse is that the book even points out that it is like The Matrix half way through! I was pretty much like "thanks for pointing out what I already decided a long time ago..."

The characters were so ugh. And I got really sick of hearing how amazing Neil was.

Also, all the "bad memories" were really poorly done. The connections between characters were poorly discovered.

Really, this book has A LOT wrong with it.

I am rather disappointed.

Romance 4*
finished on Nov 11

Thank the goddess that book 3 didn't feature Jane's f*cked up family as much as the first 2 books did!! Their antics are funny only in small doses. Some good headway is made with certain members of her family. Then there's Gabriel's secret. So much is made of this, the actual explanation was so lame (I was disappointed). I loved the exchange between Grandma Ruthie and Aunt Jettie. I love Jane and her humor (good comebacks and she's hilarious), Zeb, Jolene, Andrea, Dick, and hell, even Gabriel. The writing is excellent and funny, I laughed out loud several times.

Random funny quotes:
Jettie to Ruthie: "varicose-veined ho!"
Jane: "If you launch into some story about the miracle of werewolf nipples, I will leave."
