Hmm kind of contradictory that you all wish people will quit talking about it, yet here you all are... talking about it!

Sorry, but I agree with Martine - and I loved the whole series. And can't wait for the movie. Just being honest :)

Agreed! 100%
If you are tired of hearing about the book, and start a discussion on that book, you are contributing to the hype and talk of the Book you are sick of hearing about.

hahahaha! very true

Yes but the difference is; those books were something special and this one isnt. I mean seriously if I made a 'books that doesn't deserve the hype' list this would be my top choice. Some people are really blind-sided about this book, like calling it a great romance, or Christian the greatest boyfriend

I think I'm gonna do the say same . 'Cause as much as I liked the book , the hype is sorta making me hate it

as a person who has read and actually quite liked the books
i couldn't agree more
plenty more books (bdsm and erotica) have been out in the 2 years and people are still talking/slagging this trilogy off
i have never known a book to cause so much drama
it's just a book
if u like it great
if u hate it great
now lets just move on

You seriously need to consider your own statement & grow up yourself. There's no cause for what you just typed. Step out of your own Idiotic closed minded world.
Recognize that people can read this book, like it for what it is but still not wish for a movie to come from it. Just cos I like a book doesn't mean I'm gonna love to see or hold my breath for a movie to be born from it. And just cos you dislike it, doesn't mean I'm gonna purposely be insulting to you because of it.
But back to the original statement/question, people will stop discussing it, when people stop B*tchin about it.

The movies are being shot in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, because they couldn't get permission from the local places to shoot here. There's nada of a chance that trademarked aspects of the real locations will be in the movies.
I encourage you to read this peer-reviewed-and-approved university study on the books and the level of abuse in these books: http://online.liebertpub.com/doi/pdfp... I bought permanent access to the file. Those of you who are fans must understand that your ideal man, Christian Grey, is a certifiable abuser and rapist, Ana is a classic victim of Stockholm Syndrome, and *almost* every interaction they have has elements of abuse, whether it's him ignoring her saying NO, she does NOT want sex, and him forcing it, or him controlling her in ways she doesn't want but that she eventually caves to because she's afraid of hurting him because he'll hurt her (coercion).

I've seen a lot of mixed reviews regarding this trilogy. Especially concerning the last book. A lot of people who loved books 1&2, were highly disappointed with the final book. I'm still thinking about reading it though.

How many times are you going to misspell "because?"

The book is garbage because it is unrelatable. Even true people who follow BDSM say that this book is garbage because it doesn't follow a true BDSM relationship. If you're going to write a book and write it properly and do your research.

And that's the only comeback you're working with? COS you know you're in the wrong with your silly ass attitude, little girl.

Exactly. No one is sayin u can't hate it. But what's the point/or purpose in trying to insult people cos they like it? And vice versa.

I so agree with you. I don't like this book either but I'm not going to bash people for liking it because everyone has different tastes. Come on people, it's so stupid to waste our time fighting over a craze that will die down eventually. And than when you look back at it and think, why did I did get so heated and temperamental for?

I honestly don't think this book was bad. It's not my preference but there wasn't anything that horribly grotesque and just downright horrible about it.
It's a book intended for a mature audience with acquired taste that people have to respect or at least tolerate in the same way that someone else may like country music or Korean pop music when you don't.
And with that said-- I don't understand the hype about this book either. Beyond the fact that this book played a key role in the reader community's genre shift into BDSM relationships/Contemporary Romance, there was nothing obviously special about this book. Not much stood out. There's the same main character who's going through the same themes as TWENTY THOUSAND OTHER MAIN CHARACTERS; discovering one-self, falling in love, overcoming fears. And just as the love interest is the same tall, strong, rich, and handsome-as-fuck guy, the love-triangle is the same extraneous aspect added in as some form of entertainment- like almost every other romance novel out there.
Fifty Shades of Grey is just any other book, and yet its fame rides on the back of the popularity and criticism it's so far received.

If everybody just chills out and picks up another book to talk about- then this series will eventually and inevitably die down and be taken off the "best sellers" shelves and be crammed in next to all the other Romance novels out there.

I'm sorry. Honestly, I'm really not this bitchy >.< I just feel opinionated as everyone here does, pertaining to this series.

U weren't being b*tchy, u were being real. And I totally agree with everything u said.

YES!! Exactly!

I was truly disappointed with the writing style. It was dry, emotionless, and a bit parochial to me. The dialogue just did not flow smoothly and naturally. The "taboo" was TAME in comparison to many other authors I've read. Overall, I was rather disappointed by the trilogy but read them through for two reasons: 1) I cannot justify wasting my money. I bought them, I'd best read them. 2) I hoped they would get better.
Now, I admit, book 3 was easier to read for me. I don't know if she improved or if I just got used to her writing style. I still was not impressed with the sex bits though.
So, while I am not a fan of the series or author, I do find all the continued hype that surrounds it to be amusing. It's like Twilight-esque crack for adults.
In answer to the question: never. Ms James will get her first two books onto the big screen & milk it for more by dividing the last book into two movies (as per the trend). Later, she may even release a 3D version! (*rolling eyes at sarcasm here*) The readers, critics & eventually viewers will ultimately have that love it or hate it finality about this series and that always makes for a hot topic and passionate debate.

On that note, I am intrigued in watching the movie. I won't go to theater or anything for it, but I do want to see how they adapt it into screen and also whether they will tone it down or up. Movies always seem to take a book and modify it to fit what they think people want to see. I do not think the movie will be great but I do think that the hype will cause it not to bomb out.
I don't think that people are closed minded because they don't like the book or the movie, perhaps it's because they are more mature adults and the material in the book is nothing new to them. The young find it fascinating because it has been romanticized in the movie and the book.
