DHASG November Challenge
Duration: November 1st to November 30th, 2013
Progress: 10 out of 10
1. Semper Fi!: November 10th is the birthday of the United States Marines. Read a book with a character who is a former or active Marine:
Shelter Mountain by Robyn Carr - ***** - 11/30/2013
2.What's Your Story, Morning Glory?: Sweet Potato Awareness Month is in November, and actually this vegetable isn't a potato although it is a root. It comes from the flower/plant, Ipomea batatas. This vine has a beautiful flower, edible leaves and shoots, and scrumptious, nutritious roots. Symbolically, the flower represents love, affection and mortality. They bloom and die in one day: Read a book about a farmer (since this is a widely cultivated crop), a hardworking or average-looking character who really impresses you (they are a worthwhile individual), or in which the main or important secondary character is a cook, chef, or baker:
Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron - ***** - 11/11/2013
3. Great American Smokeout: On the third Thursday of the month of November, smokers are encouraged to give up smoking for 24 hours. If you're a smoker and you're participating, you can get a free book credit this month. If not, read a book with a character who smokes and is trying to quit!
Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham - ***** - 11/3/2013
5.No Shave Month/Movember: November is the month to grow out your beard or mustache (or your hubby or significant other will). Read a book with a hero who has significant facial hair (a mustache, beard or goatee--not just stubble):
Lover Unleashed by J.R. Ward - ***** - 11/30/2013
6. Who's Your Hero?: Pick a book with your favorite kind of hero (bad boy, honor guard, nerd, billionaire, you name it), and read a book for that hero this month, in honor of National Heroes Day on November 10 in Indonesia:
Dash & Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn - ***** - 11/1/2013 - Nerd Hero!
7.Child by Choice: National Adoption Day is this month (November 21), so read a book with a person who becomes or is adopted (even unofficially) into a family that is not theirs by blood:
Midnight in Austenland by Shannon Hale - ***** - 11/11/2013
8.Give Thanks!: On November 28th, Thanksgiving is celebrated to commemorate the Pilgrims surviving the first harvest in the New World. Now we just use this day to hang out with friends/family, eat and be grateful for what we have. You can choose any book you want to read this month, and give thanks for the joy of reading.
The Boyfriend List: 15 Guys, 11 Shrink Appointments, 4 Ceramic Frogs and Me, Ruby Oliver by E. Lockhart - *** - 11/7/2013
9.Buy Nothing Day: Instead of celebrating commercialism on Black Friday, let's read a book we already own or a book we checked out of the library or were loaned instead of buying a new book this month:
Gypsy Wind by Lisa Jackson - ** - 11/8/2013
10. Mellow Yellow: Two of the birthstones this month, topaz (also in other colors) and citrine are found in the color of yellow: Read a book that reflects yellow in some way: the color is yellow, one of the characters is blond or has pale gold eyes. Since yellow symbolizes joy and delight, read a book that is humorous or upbeat:
Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris - **** - 11/21/2013
11. Eleventh Hour: The year is almost up. Read that book you've been planning to read for most of the year:
The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss - *** - 11/5/2013

DHASG November Challenge
Introduction: The eleventh month of the year is November. Wow, the year is almost over. Things are getting really busy, so thanks for participating. We know it's hard to have a lot of activities this month, so we hope this challenge works for your busy reading life this month!
Instructions:
1. Books must be read between November 1st and November 30th of the month.
2. Please post on this thread that you are signing up and update your stats as you finish. Let the moderator know when you are completed in your final post.
3. A book can only be used once in the challenge.
4. Books of any genre can be used for the challenge, unless a particular part of the challenge states otherwise.
5. Happy reading!
Levels (includes free book credit(s):
1. Book Coma: Read 9-11 books
2. Busy Reader: Read 5-8 books
3. Grateful Reader: Read 3-4 books
1. Semper Fi!: November 10th is the birthday of the United States Marines. Read a book with a character who is a former or active Marine.
2.What's Your Story, Morning Glory?: Sweet Potato Awareness Month is in November, and actually this vegetable isn't a potato although it is a root. It comes from the flower/plant, Ipomea batatas. 4.Just Write!: November is National Novel Writing Month, where people work on that 50,000 word manuscript all month. If you are participating in NaNoWriMo this month, you can count this one free. You automatically get a point just for doing NaNoWriMo because you're already spending a lot of time on something this month.
5.No Shave Month/Movember: November is the month to grow out your beard or mustache (or your hubby or significant other will). Read a book with a hero who has significant facial hair (a mustache, beard or goatee--not just stubble).
