Kathy (readr4ever) | 236 comments Fiona, yes, they're by Kate Atkinson. I always prefer reading books in order, too, and I think it would be best for this series. I wasn't too sure about Case Histories at first, since the stories didn't start connecting until around page 50 something, but after that, I really got into the book and ended up pretty much loving it. This first one establishes the character of Jackson Brodie, who is the detective in the novels.

Finished Eyre Affair, and I have to agree with Allison and JG - a lot of fun, but I just can't love it. Like it a lot, had a really good time, will probably even read the next in the series, but just don't adore it.

Now I'm gonna read A is for Alibi, and I must be the only person on Earth who hasn't read this series!! Can't wait!

I just read it a couple months ago! I enjoyed it...I need to pick up the next one sometime.

Jeane (icegini) I am reading such a great book: Io uccido.or I kill by Giorgo Faletti. I always heard from Italians that he writes good books and that will like them, especially his first book which is this on. They were so right! I love it!!!!!! I am like sitting on the edge of a chair, not able to go on and not able to wait to read more.

message 205: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihetzel-evans) | 98 comments Finally finished Death Wore White by Jim Kelly today... and then started The Serpent's Tale.

message 206: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresainohio) reading A Faint Cold Fear Thought I read, but I think I gave up during a book slump, cause I can't stand Lena

Don't Look Twice A Novel

very fast paced book, already on page 179 and now getting the motive for the murder

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 556 comments My birthday isn't until Wednesday, but I got an early gift yesterday - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

message 208: by Charlotte (Buried in Books) (last edited Jul 26, 2009 11:17AM) (new)

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 407 comments Currently reading The Nymphos of Rocky Flats. The central character is a Vampire P.I. who's investigating an outbreak of nymphomania at a nuclear facility. So far it's not as much fun as it sounds.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 556 comments I think I shall be starting it today - my mother snaffed the other one I got, which was a biography of Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire.

message 210: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 26, 2009 12:08PM) (new)

Happy Early Birthday Susanna!! I bought myself a birthday present - The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - two weeks early!! but it hasn't arrived yet... but Sue Grafton did, so I'm reading that first!!

message 211: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Just finished the brillant Succubus Nights - Richelle Mead. Will now carry on reading Hollywood Wives - Jackie Collins.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 556 comments Thanks!

Yes, I'm looking forward to reading both of them. And I have a birthday box from my father, sitting there, which I know has a book or two in it.

Hayes - I loved Guernsey.

message 213: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 236 comments Finished One Good Turnand plan on reading the third in the series, When Will There Be Good News? A Novel when I can get to the library and check it out. I decided to read this one from the library and buy The Girl Who Played with Fire when it comes out this Tuesday. How are you liking that one, Fiona?

message 214: by Kristine (new)

Kristine (foreveryearning) | 10 comments I'm currently reading Ordinary Heroes A Novel by Scott Turow. Never read anything of his, but decided to check this out from the library because it involves WWII and I'm a sucker for that time period. So far I quite like it.

message 215: by [deleted user] (new)

Fiona... can you read the second without reading the first, or first 2 then 1? An Italian friend of mine was given the second, but can't find the first. Does it make a difference? Thanks!

message 216: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Fiona. I'll see if I can find it thru my Italian bookcrossers.

Kris, I loved Ordinary Heroes. It's a departure from Turow's other novels, and I really enjoyed it. I think Turow is a fantastic author. I heard him speak and got to meet him, and I was so impressed. Enjoy this book.

message 218: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 236 comments Fiona, I hope you enjoy the Kate Atkinson books, too. I will say that while I'm enjoying them a lot, they are just below my 5 rating, more a 4 or 4 1/2, but that still means I really like a book. Now, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, that's a clear 5.

message 223: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 2 comments I just finished 8TH CONFESSION by James Patterson, and now am reading FINGER LICKIN FIFTEEN by Janet Evanovich. I love both of these series.

message 224: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihetzel-evans) | 98 comments I too am just starting Finger Lickin Good... just picked up my copy at the library today... trying to save it because no matter how hard I try, it's a one-night read... too much fun to drag out... looking forward to more Lula!

message 225: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 236 comments Allison, hopefully I'll be starting The Girl Who Played with Fire by tomorrow. You wouldn't want me to throw Anne aside would you? Ha, ha. And, Heather, I am loving dear Anne. I have about 100 more pages to go. I would be finished with it before now, but I've been really busy this week and was out of town yesterday. I plan on getting some reading done today, though.

message 226: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 236 comments Heather wrote: "I think Allison would have a stroke if you threw Anne aside, Kathy! LOL "

I agree, Heather.

message 227: by Allison (last edited Jul 29, 2009 08:53AM) (new)

Allison (inconceivably) yes, please don't do that.

The moderator of this group, aka my former friend, abandoned Anne. I still have nightmares.

Finished A Thousand Splendid Suns last night... stayed up to 4 o'clock reading. I think I liked Kite Runner better, but this was awfully awfully good.

I haven't had any mysteries on my TBR for a while : (

I may have to rearrange a few things, I'm going into withdrawal...

message 233: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey there y'all, I kind of joined by accident, but it is a happy accident! :)

I'm presently reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and have the next on on order, through Amazon Marketplace. It's certainly hard to put down!

message 234: by Dorie (new)

Dorie (dorieann) | 464 comments Welcome, Pontalba!

I'm currently reading the newest Andy Carpenter book by David Rosenfelt, New Tricks. If you like dogs and you like mysteries, you'd love this series. Light, funny, and always with a good mystery at the heart.

message 235: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 04, 2009 09:12AM) (new)

That series looks good... the first is open and shut, right?

Hi Pontalba!

Welcome Pontalba. Glad to hear the newest Andy Carpenter book is good. I really enjoyed Open and Shut.

message 237: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks for the welcomes. :)

I wasn't familiar with the Andy Carpenter books, they look good though. I love cats and dogs, so that sounds right up my alley.

Have any of you read the mysteries by Shirley Rousseau Murphy? Her talking cat/hard-nosed detective is right on target. Cattitude with a purpose.

message 238: by Dorie (new)

Dorie (dorieann) | 464 comments Pontalba, I've not heard of Shirley Rousseau Murphy, I'll have to check out her books. Thanks for the recommendation. I actually found Rosenfelt when Janet Evanovich recommended him for the Today Show Book Club.

Hayes, yes Open and Shut is the first book in the Andy Carpenter series. Really good.

message 239: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 236 comments I'm loving The Girl Who Played With Fire. It's taking me longer to read than it should. Stupid life getting in the way.

message 240: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihetzel-evans) | 98 comments just finished the latest Janet Evanovich (Finger Lickin Fifteen) and started Anne Perry's The Silent Cry (a Monk mystery).

message 241: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihetzel-evans) | 98 comments Heather-- just picked up the third book (Grave Goods) in the series at the library... as soon as I'm done with the Perry novel, it's next on my list. Then I'll have to take a break and get caught up on my bookclub reading.

message 242: by [deleted user] (new)

Just ordered "Mistress"... can't wait til it gets here. In the mean time Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, which is also really good. (The footbinding process is even more shocking that I had imagined it, and I pride myself on my vivid imagination!)

message 243: by [deleted user] (new)

I want to read that one too, Heather. Lemme know what you think!

message 244: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 236 comments For those of you who haven't read The Girl Who Played with Fire, run, don't walk to the bookstore or library and get it. It was absolutely fabulous. Larsson was a brilliant writer.

I started the third Jackson Brodie book by Kate Atkinson, When Will There Be Good News? A Novel. It's good so far, but it is hard to measure up to my last read.

I just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and can't wait to receive The Girl Who Played with Fire. Fortunately it's on it's way right now. :)

message 250: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm starting Mistress of the Art of Death. I saw the thread here, and I've had it on the shelf for quite a while, so now I have more incentive to get it read.
