Stu | 4 comments OK, sounds like a good book. I will have to give it a try.

Dorie (dorieann) | 464 comments Kathy, just got back from the festival. I got to hear Garth Stein speak, author of "Racing in the Rain" (which I of course bought there). He is a very charasmatic and interesting speaker. Can't wait to read the book. I especially wanted to see the UK crime fiction author R.J. Ellory. His new book "A Quiet Belief in Angels" was recently published in the US (which I of course bought there). Unfortunately according to the cashier he never showed up. I know he planned on going to Bouchercon, maybe he got hung up there? Other authors there included Jennifer Weiner, James Braziel, Jeannette Walls, and a host of children's book authors. Fun was had by all! Hope you make next year's festival!

Stu | 4 comments Maybe someone can help me. I clicked on reply under Chris' comment and the post seem to just go to the end on the thread instead of replying to Chris. How does this Goodreads suppose to work. Seems extremely awkward. Or maybe just my old age?

message 604: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Donovan | 45 comments I loved that poker game, too. Fun show. My new fave of this season is Flash Forward and I'm getting into N.C.I.S. Los Angeles, too. I absolutely loved "Jericho" a couple of years back, but it only ran one season. Also love Dr. Who - all of the different Doctors. The spin-off, "Torchwood," was fun with great characters, but not enough shows for me. Made me want to travel to Wales, though.

Stu, the only difference between a "reply" and a new message is it references the original message in italics (like I did with your post above). This shows others what post you are referencing.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Never rated The Lost Symbol last nite, cos I couldn't get into it. Maybe his last 1 I just can't understand. Might need to read it instead of listening to.

Glad you had such a great time, Dorie. I had to laugh at your comments about buying the books there. I go to the Southern Kentucky Book Festival in Bowling Green each year vowing to limit my book purchases, and then, after talking to the authors, end up buying way too many books (is that possible, too many books?).

message 609: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihetzel-evans) | 98 comments Okay I feel danger in this thread... I've heard of two Ohio book fairs (something I've never done) within driving distance... how do you find out about these things ahead of time? I'm intrigued (and worried)... lol.

Dorie (dorieann) | 464 comments Heidi, I originally heard about "Books by the Banks" on a poster in a local bookstore (which I haunt regularly of course). Since it's now an annual event I keep track of it via the website. You should come next year, it's really fun!

message 611: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 236 comments Heidi, if you just google "book festivals" you will find a lot of different ones. I'd like to plug the one I mentioned, The Southern Kentucky Book Fest held in Bowling Green, Kentucky. I love it! I have met and heard some fantastic authors there, such as Pat Conroy, Scott Turow, Harlan Coben, and Kathleen Kent. If you live close enough to go, it's held every April.

message 613: by Deborah (new)

Deborah | 6 comments I really liked the Lost Symbol (I read it the day it arrived in the stores), but then I liked Dan's other books as well. I do like the research that goes into his novels and that he lets the reader know up front what is true and what is fictional. The only thing that bugs me is the continuous trail of evidence which gets to be a bit trying after a while.

message 614: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihetzel-evans) | 98 comments Thanks for all the book festival information... the one in Cincinnati is definitely something I'm looking forward to next spring!

I'm enjoying Borderline. If you haven't read it, I think you should. Anna's very reflective in this book about the shooting, about marriage, about the NPS, and I'm anxious to see what conclusions she arrives at. And of course, it's a gripping story which I'm really not sure who are the villains!!

message 630: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Donovan | 45 comments Just finished "Brass Verdict" and started on "Finger Licken' Fifteen" and will be through that one today. I am trying to decide whether to read "Faceless Killers" or "World Without End" or "The Magicians." I'm thinking of flipping a coin to decide. Of course, I will waste an hour tonight watching "Survivor," thanks to my bff's dragging me into the soap opera of it. Now I'm hooked. Hope everybody has something wonderful to read.

message 631: by Carol (new)

Carol I just finished Midnight Fugue-Reginald Hill. I like his Fat man series.

message 632: by Stu (new)

Stu | 4 comments Finished reading "Birdman" by Mo Hayder. Not my cup of tea. To graphic and somewhat drawn out. Not sure I want to attempt any other books by her?

message 633: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 236 comments I just finished The Woman in Black A Ghost Story by Susan Hill, a great classic ghost story for this month. I've started Sherlock in Love A Novel by Sena Jeter Naslund, one of my favorite authors (Ahab's Wife and Abundance: A Novel of Marie Antoinette).

I just started Murder on the Eiffel Tower and so far I am enjoying it. It is a much lighter read after Girl with the Dragon Tattoo so it is a good change for me.

message 635: by Jessika (new)

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) I'm about 2/3 of the way done with Nicholas Sparks' The Guardian, which, on top of being a love story, is a pretty suspenseful thriller. I can't put this book down without wondering what's going to happen next!

I was pleasantly surprised to learn I'm in the 400s now... that seems reasonable... :) Of course that gives me time to read Angels and Demons before the new one.

message 637: by Dorie (new)

Dorie (dorieann) | 464 comments I'm starting The Secret Speech by Tom Rob Smith, his follow up to 'Child 44', which I really enjoyed. The first couple of chapters of this book were great and I'm totally hooked into the story now.

I just bought Murder on the Eiffel Tower yesterday at Barnes and Noble and hope to fit it in soon.

message 640: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Donovan | 45 comments Janice. I read "Church of Dead Girls" quite some time ago. Excellent book. Beautifully written. It is one of those books that makes you go back and re-read whole paragraphs, if you know what I mean. It is not gory, as the title might make you believe, just well written and enjoyable.

message 641: by Dorie (new)

Dorie (dorieann) | 464 comments Donna and Kathy, that's too weird! I just bought that book this weekend as well. Great minds all thinking alike. I'm not getting to read it too soon though, so I'll look forward to hearing what you think of it.

Kate | 4 comments Hi All,
I just finished All That Remains by Patricia Cornwell and flew through it in a day which was a nice change after reading The Templar Legacy A Novel by Steve Berry that dragged on for me for a week or so.
Looking to read Relic by Douglas Preston next before it has to go back to the library.

JG (Introverted Reader) Lobstergirl, that brackety book link thing doesn't usually work, if that's the way you made the link. The easiest way to make a link is to click the "add book/author" link above your comment box.

And having finished this, I think I'm done with the pedophiliac subgenre of Nordic police procedurals.
