I can't respect your beliefs if you never defend them.

message 4152: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm not expecting you to respect them. I'm asking just to be left alone and what happens to me doesn't effect you. It's my choice after all.

Our choices aren't automatically good just because they're our choices.
In a discussion, I will call a mistake a mistake. I explained my side, and I'm interested in yours.

...Or are we all here just to swear and call names then? What's the good in that?

message 4154: by [deleted user] (last edited Nov 14, 2014 05:53PM) (new)

And this discussion was never about anyone's "rights" as you keep trying to paint it. People are indeed free to make their own mistakes as far as I am concerned. In a discussion about the ACTION itself we should be able to discuss the actual action without making things personal.

I said it before, and I'll say it again: having to dig through all your propaganda and empty phrases, and just the way you treat people seeking answers for their concerns speaks volumes. This is about respect? Hahaha

It's about one thing: selfishness. Period.
Lie about anyone who disagrees with you, even your mom and dad, just to shut them up. Paint them as demons. I see this every day and I don't respect it at all.
All you do is dodge questions and lie about (or swear at) others. THAT is what I call hateful and bigoted. I don't care what your beliefs are, you should be prepared to defend them to others, otherwise you are lying to yourself too.

You should be ashamed of yourself for representing what you stand for in this way.

message 4155: by [deleted user] (new)

Listen. I respect you. I'm not judging you at all.

message 4156: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm not hateful. I don't swear unless I'm really done with life. I've only got my mom who doesn't know about my sexuality. My dad left when I was eight. He just walked out the door and never came back. I live with my mom and my three cousins(all girls). The oldest hates me and blackmails me because I'm gay. The middle one is a psychopath with severe anger issues. The youngest is a sweetheart with the biggest heart I've ever seen in a six year old. I'm not perfect Do not judge me. I'm a real person with feelings and a life.

message 4157: by Zeus3713 (new)

Zeus3713 I think that children should be learning about being Gay and Trans and all that other stuff at a young age so that they can understand it and that if they want to be or are Gay and Trans, that it is alright to be who they are because EVERYBODY has their own story and this character pulls it through to show the Gays and Trans out there in this world that it is OK to be who they are, and shows those who aren't Gay or Trans to not be Prejudiced because one of their favorite Characters is Gay. NICELY DONE RIORDAN!!!

Emily Fuller Love this twist in the series and really hope it come to a conclusion in the next book!

We don't want children to be sheltered but it's not like we have to thrust all of this stuff in their face and be like, "You need to know what this is!! Learn it now!"

message 4162: by [deleted user] (new)

Personally, I feel like we all just need to keep to ourselves. Like I don't care if there are people out there who don't care for my life choices. I just want them to leave me alone. And the same with people who support LGBT. We don't need support(no offense). I'm perfectly fine on my own. I just want everyone to not give me dirty looks if I wanna hold another boy's hand. That's all I ask.

message 4163: by [deleted user] (new)

And I'm not calling anyone names and I only said "hell" which I, along with many others, don't believe is a swear. If you don't like it, I won't say it. I'm just speaking my mind.

Um, if this was a straight relationship, no one would be considering this "thrusting it in their face." Portray a straight couple in what was likely a sex scene before the editors probably forced the author to change it to "just sleeping" (*cough*The Mark of Athena*cough*), and hardly anyone bats an eye, but simply state someone has a crush on a person of the same sex, and you get uproar and controversy.

I agree, but no one "chooses" to be gay or trans, you're born like that. But positive LGBT role models do encourage LGBT children to be more comfortable with their sexuality.

Well I honestly thought Nico was gay from the start. I mean, he didn't have any love interests that were pointed out in the story like Percy, Jason, Leo, Hazel etc. All of them had love interests as the story progressed and Nico's hadn't been revealed.

Maybe Rick was unsure of whose Nico's love interest should've been or insecure to add in Nico's sexual orientation as the series progressed. Which is why.. ta-dah, one of the biggest character plot twists in 2014 history.

Not much of a fan of this series, but I was quite shocked yet impressed that he added a homosexual character in the book.

Kids need to learn about these kind of topics and to those who aren't kids need cut the bullcrap about not wanting a gay character in a 'kid's book' (I hardly think PJO is a kids book though).

There will definitely be people who aren't straight in real life, and I don't see how that can't apply to books. I mean...come on....not everybody you meet is gonna be straight. And to those who were pre-Nico fans before his reveal and but are currently hating him because of the last two books...you ain't true Nico fans.

Keep up the good work, Rick!

Yeah. I feel like we're all just humans. And we have our flaws. No one is perfect.

message 4170: by [deleted user] (new)

And anyways how are heterosexual relationships selfless?

message 4171: by [deleted user] (new)

Because I was informed that same sex relationships were selfish.

message 4172: by [deleted user] (new)

Brown did

I am thinking it's a sign
That the freckles in our eyes
Are mirror images and when
We kiss they're perfectly aligned

And I have to speculate
That God himself did make
Us into corresponding shapes
Like puzzle pieces from the clay

And true, it may seem like a stretch,
But its thoughts like this that catch
My troubled head when you're away
When I am missing you to death

When you are out there on the road
For several weeks of shows
And when you scan the radio,
I hope this song will guide you home

They won't see us waving from such great heights,
"Come down now," they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away,
"Come down now," but we'll stay...

I tried my best to leave
This all on your machine
But the persistent beat it sounded thin
Upon listening

And that frankly will not fly.
You will hear the shrillest highs
And lowest lows with the windows down
When this is guiding you home

They won't see us waving from such great heights,
"Come down now," they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away,
"Come down now," but we'll stay...

They won't see us waving from such great heights,
"Come down now," they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away,
"Come down now," but we'll stay...

They won't see us waving from such great heights,
"Come down now,"
They won't see us waving from such great heights,
"Come down now,"

Veronica I don't see the problem, to be honest. There is really no difference between homosexual love and heterosexual love. Love is love, and I was actually quite pleased that Rick included this in the series. There is nothing wrong with being gay-In fact, I believe that Nico being gay was a smart move on Rick's behalf; it gave Nico more layers and showed us how much more complex his past really was.

Vikas So many ignorant people here complaining about a simple scene where in a old character finally accepts that he may have feelings for another male and voila its like and entire cask of Greek Fire exploded. People chill, it explains a lot and not at all out of blue. Kids are not ignorant and they never were don't bring your own prejudices in their lives. And again the books may be branded middle school or 9+ years or older but they are read by everyone I am 32 years young this year and love Percy Jackson series more than ever before in fact most of my favorite books would be so called children or YA books .. i.e. Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl, Percy Jackson, Hunger Games etc. Well sorry if this post became too long for you but books are for reading and introducing ideas new or old to the readers, so chill and Keep on Reading.
