Natalie,
The point (of this specific conversation right here, right now) isn't about anybody's right. The point is that (since) everybody has the right to different ideas, let's compare them.
I explained what I believe and why (that love can't exist to be purely selfish).
Why do you disagree?
In your own words what is uniquely selfless about romantic love, that is not covered in the other types of love? You are only implying a "feeling" and feelings are not giving.

It's not about "producing children" per say.
It's about being open to the sacrifice that comes with a specific type of love.
Again, what other type of love exists solely for our own personal gain?

OMGS I SHIP SOLANGLEO TOO!
IN FACT I'M IN IT IT'S SO NICE TO MEET A SHIPPER.

The only way you can show you romantically love someone is by having children with them? Having babies is the only sacrifice you can make?
Caring about someone else is not being selfish. People can show their love in infinite ways. What if someone died to save their partner? That isn't a good enough sacrifice to show your commitment to someone? Every human being experiences things through a different lens, and based on that react differently. There are an infinite amount of reactions to an emotion a person can have. When angry, one person might become silent and brooding. Another person feeling anger might shout and scream and kick a wall. Both are angry, but they express their anger in different ways. Love is the same. Maybe one person is ready to start a family and have kids. Another person plans months in advance for their partner's birthday, just to see the smile their partner has when they open a present. Neither of those actions are selfish. Just because a couple doesn't want a child doesn't mean they don't love each other. Both couples romantically love each other, and their love is shown in different ways.
An emotion should not be defined so specifically, needing a certain kind of sacrifice to make it valid.

Oh, so we have canon interaction and hints that Nico feels romantic attraction to Will, and we're odd..."
Oh I never said you're odd! I shipped Percabeth like two pages after they met! I just think you guys are good at fangirling!:) p.s. I don't even know who Tratie is.

Why should they get a grip? It's their choice to like it or not.
You guys are on page 92, 8 more pages to 100.

I mean that would make since to add that in your post @Leah. Although I don't think that's what you meant. It kinda goes with the whole "it doesn't matter who you like" subject. Kind of like "it doesn't matter who you like even if you like plants". Which, hopefully, no one on this website does. At least like that. No judgement coming from me if you did though. But I'm sure no one does...right?

How is dying for someone specifically romantic?
Wouldn't it actually be kind of selfish to say you would only die for someone if you were romantically attracted to them?
Again, you're over-valuing romance and making it sound more important than it is. You're just stealing from other types of love.
I want to know what's uniquely selfless about romance once you take out the possibility of having a family.
Give me an example if they're infinite. No stealing this time.

Giving each other birthday presents? Really?
All I'm getting from this is that the main highlight, (whether you admit it or not), is pleasure.
And that will never be as serious or important. I want to understand, but I don't. The longer I stick around here the more it feels like a game (or basically gives me the same feeling I get when I read fanfiction).
This is not sincere or selfless or important. I'm sorry if you believe that it is. Nobody deserves to think this is who they are. Nobody deserves to think this is what love is.

Wait so if Nico likes me,
That would be the other 50%.
I MEAN NOTHING.

Love is about caring more about someone else than you do about yourself. Love doesn't have to be a romantic thing, but if two people of the same gender love each other, so what? Yay for them, I say. There doesn't have to be a purpose for everything. Do something because it makes you happy, makes you you. Why should LGBT people be miserable because some people disagree with their choices, or because they can't have children by themselves (or without science). So what? There are 7 billion people on Earth, there don't need to be more.

Let's be friends.
Let's be best friends.
That was beautiful.

Thanks. Simply speaking the truth. :)

It's not that we don't expect kids to know about them, but Riordan is making it seem like homosexuality is okay and ruining the minds of the little kids that read the books.

Rick definitely should've warned the readers or their parents first. If he wanted it to be a shock that Nico, specifically, is gay, he should've just mentioned there would be homosexuality. Same, and especially, with the Disney Channel series, Good Luck Charlie (4x19: Down a Tree; January 26, 2014)

But there is no warning for heterosexual couples, even when they're flat out screwing. Great to see the equality, guys.

Science hasn't come that far that they can take two eggs from two women in a relationship and inject one egg into the other and make an embryo.

Thank you for the full scientific explanation. I wasn't aware of the exact process, just the possibility, so thanks for clearing it up.

Everyone has different values and beliefs. Love is not the same for everyone, it's unique, and is based on the individual. Your definition of love is wrong. Love can not be defined by only one thing, or one act, or one sacrifice. It is so much more, and so complicated, and so different. Maybe for you, love means being willing to start a family. But that one thing can't possibly be the only way that people show romantic love. You are wrong to believe that everyone must comply to your definition of romantic love.

Wow that wall of text...

Wow that wall of text..."
You can say that again.

If "love" is just a random thing based on whatever makes you happy and can be "anything" you want, how is it serious or important?
I agree love is important when it's ordered toward being selfless. Again, what does romance add to their relationships that makes them more selfless?
It's about their happiness? Okay. I'll hold you to that answer. How is it so serious and important then?
Are there ANY other cases that ANYTHING is that serious and important when the sole reason for it is pleasure? (especially since you argue as if people are forced to commit suicide over it).
Choices based on pleasure are frivolous. It's problematic to treat them so importantly, as if they compare to sacrifice or selflessness. You're trying to ride coat tails.
(before we have to repeat this again, remember you admitted happiness was the only unique thing about romantic love. Don't try and steal from other types again as an excuse too contradict what you admitted: that it's based on their happiness)

This is a sincere question as well.
How are your labels serious or important?
You literally told me I was "asexual." Suppose I actually took that seriously. People would automatically bend over backwards to "respect" that hare-brained, drop-of-a-hat decision. Why should they?
Labels are a dangerous game, especially when it comes to something so subjective.
Just make your choices as they come. This isn't a fanfiction, and we don't know everything about ourselves. You think you're empowering yourselves, but you're not. You're just taking image too seriously.

We must take lives seriously because we must make them as extraordinary as we can.
We may be all heading for ten feet under but we want to make that fall as slow and as lasting as possible.

It is not funny.
Okay maybe a little funny.
And you didn't answer my other question: how is love important if it just means whatever you want? Why should it be respected just because you label it with that name that you stole? Where do we draw the lines?
And that chart is screwed up.
Gender isn't about having a certain image. It was just a way to describe what kind of body you have.
You're too dramatic about your images. Just act however you want it doesn't make you a different gender?? Who the heck made up which kinds of personalities are "girl" and "boy?"
Can't they be like anything or not????
What a horrible narcissistic thing to care about.
And nobody commits suicide because they can't wear a skirt. And if you're mom wants you to wear a dress, what happened to just sucking it up because WHAT YOU WEAR is not a big deal anyway?
I'll never feel sorry for you when you use those frivolous, vain excuses.

I'm honestly the same way.
That's why I'm making the point that, while it's annoying, it's not a HUGE deal.
My dad buys really slimy food that I don't like too, but I don't act like just because "it's not who I am" to appreciate that food, it's that dramatic of a deal.
Image is just image. It definitely doesn't define me as a person, and the choices I make are more important than my preferences. I'm not a different gender for wearing blue instead of pink or playing sports instead of whatever stereotypical girl thing other girls might (or might not) do.

Girls can play baseball and it doesn't make them "like guys." It makes them like girls who play baseball, which is fine. Nobody seems to get that.
