NICO… YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT O.o
To the bigots and homophobic jerks out there:1. Even a GOD fell in love with a DUDE. And so did the wind sprite.
2. Ever heard of Destiel? Dean. Castiel. Two characters who are totally in love with each other but are too busy saving the world to realize it. JUST. LIKE. NICO.
3. I read in the abyss two quotes. "What does their sexuality have anything to do with it?" Why are Percy and Annabeth together? Frank and Hazel? Jason and Piper? Because it makes a connection that the reader, (and the characters) fall in love with.
Second quote: "I will not have anything to do with an author who supports gay rights!" That stung. As a living (human with freaking feelings) lesbian, that stung. I actually got the nerve to ask out my bi friend this week. And she said no. Then two days later she asked out a guy. So that opened a fresh wound. So thanks for that.

I suggest you tone it down a little. People are generally turned off from arguments when the arguer is insulting them, even when you're right.
When did anyone on this thread (beside a few token trolls who haven't been here in a while now) say they weren't reading the book because a character is gay or that they hate gay people?
It seems some people love to see hate so much, they get a little delusional. And then they think they're the ones being judged. I wonder if they know what it even means?

We don't need to pervert their minds. The world/society is already doing that for us. It's was totally unnecessary of him to include that. I probably won't read a book by him again. I'll just wear out my Percy Jackson books out more. They're better anyway and I don't have to worry about a thing. I'm sorry Riordan that you had to fall to everyone else's expectations. I decided to test my theory that many, many people's ratings of the House of Hades would be negative due to Nico's sexuality, and I was unsurprisingly disappointed by the results. It turns out that far too many people have turned against a series that they claim to have loved because of one character's sexuality, and that is completely ignoring the fact that they're so against individuals who love in a different way than most people that they're willing to turn an author into some huge villain for daring to include a homosexual character.What. The. Tartarus? Why should what gender someone likes influence your opinion of them? It doesn't affect you in any way. ONE chapter isn't going to really hurt you, is it? Hell, you could just skip it. Gay people don't affect you, and NO ONE should be forced to stop living their life because of how you feel. And guess what? If that chapter was your child's first notice that gay people exist, congrats, you're an idiot.

Thanks for that spoiler person before. Book four was the last one I'll touch(hopefully, might read 5 if I am extremely bored), the series has degraded since "The Lost Hero" and is now BS(or maybe I got too big for it, it's too "childish" for me. Pisses me off when I read how certain events unfold, and this "sacrifice myself for others" who I know nothing about, gets my goat(maybe that is anime >_>) ).
I don't see the relevance of including someone's sexual orientation when the book has nothing to with sex at all.
Now if Nico wanted to have hot steaming sex with some guy, I would understand why Rick would include his orientation but otherwise it's a waste of time.
The only reason this would be relevant to include(without they actually having sex) would be if Gay people are actually different that straights, if they had different sexual parts or something(which isn't the case (view spoiler)
But as some people in this thread have pointed out, holding hands, walking together and kissing is considered sex in the Percy Jackson world. So if Nico holds Percy's hand.... I guess they just had gay sex... so it maybe is relevant....

I don't understand why people have problems with gay and lesbian people. They are normal people just like you and me. I actually think that it is good that Nico gay. It shows that other people respect same-gender relationships. But I also agree that Rick Riordian should have told Nico was gay in a nicer way not having to spill his big secret.

1. Need to know that this stuff is real and that the whole "10 year olds should not know about homosextuality" stuff is stupid. Give it a break.
2. Everyone loved Nico until this switch. Who cares if he's gay? Nobody can help who they fall in love with.
3. Keep your mouths shut on here, because some of your "opinions" can hurt peoples feelings. Gays, Lesbians, Bisextual... we're all human!

Rick Riordan does not deserve to lose fans because of a homosextual character.
