NICO… YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT O.o

--Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve A..."
No, I'm not saying that. I'm saying that there are plenty of happy marriages out there where one or both are homosexual. Just because they don't get married to someone in their sexuality doesn't mean they can't be happy.
Yes, they may "love" that person. But it may not be REAL love. They may just think it is. It could be a million types of things (probably lust at this scale), but my point is that it's not right. Marriage was created purely for family, and you don't even have a chance at getting a family when the couple is made up of the same gender. It doesn't work that way. It's like trying to get a green apple out of two red ones, and it won't work.
Call me conservative and religious, but God created marriage for a reason, and trying to change His way shouldn't be done because He knows best and we don't look on the eternal perspective of things.

Twelve year olds talking about sex? I can assure you that a lot of twelve year olds are still grossed out by their parents kissing, much less knowing what sex is.
Anyway, good for you for predicting it:/ I'm really bad at predicting things in books.

I am assuming you didn't go to public school?

Actually, yes, I have and I am. Kindergarten to now. The worst thing at my school is the amount of swearing in the halls and the amount of kids who are really immature.

Almost all of the kids I know who went to public school learned many facts of life from an overzealous fourth grader, and by eleven, everyone knew what gay marriage was, I assure you.

Well, apparently not everyone.

I think you've had a very atypical public schooling, especially considering they gave a talk on sex and puberty to my entire fifth grade when I was in elementary school. Well, those whose parents signed the permission slip. Did you have anything like that?

We had the maturation program, but I didn't go because my mom had already taught me about puberty; and that's what the program was about. I will start learning about human reproduction in December for health class though. And I'm not looking forward to it.

Actually the Bible says to judge with righteous judgment and to tell your brother his fault in private, in hopes of helping him become a better person.
You might be referring to "judge not lest ye be judged" in the context of we never know if people are going to hell.
So stop abusing that verse. It doesn't mean "crumple up your conscience and shut up, because it's none of your business!"
:P

Basically. Hey, do you know how to insert gifs on here?!?!

Rick Riordan, I sincerely hope you read this and find out how SHALLOW some of your fans are. I actually support Nico 100% so would you shove your comments back into your homophobic little mouths?!
I can't believe that people aren't reading this anymore because of one character. There's about ten of them, just a heads up. SO WOULD WE PLEASE STOP ARGUING ABOUT A CHARACTER'S SEXUALITY FOR THE LOVE OF THE GODS.
If you don't like Nico and think that him being gay "ruined the book" then you're looking at it wrong. And you're missing the point of PJ in the first place. It is about honor and sacrifice and love and LOVE *cough cough* is painful and love is hard and I know this better than a lot of people but please. I beg you. Read the last book. Everything in this series happens for a reason. Nico is an egg. Multi-purposeful. Annabeth, she's probably flour. Useful to get results. Percy, I see him as sugar. Everyone always loves him.
But would you wait until the cake is finished before saying it tastes terrible?

1.How many homophobics does it take to change a light bulb?
None, they're afraid of change, even if it makes the world a brighter place.
2. "How will I explain gay couples to my children?" *Whiny voice*
If you can explain an immortal fat man lives in the North Pole, has tiny people as slaves, works one night a year and in that one night travels the entire world, and is pulled by a sleigh of magical flying reindeer...
You can explain two people who are in love.
3. "Oh no, you're not *insert sexuality here*, you just haven't found the right *insert opposite gender* yet."
WELL MAYBE YOU'RE SEXUALLY ATTRACTED TO LLAMAS AND HAVEN'T FOUND THE RIGHT LLAMA YET. *Bombards you with llama photos* HOW ARE THESE LOOKING YOU BIGOTED JERK
4. Homosexuality is unnatural! It says so in this book where a snake talks, a virgin has a baby, a guy walks on water, and someone comes back from the dead!
5. Drunk girl: "We met at the bar *hic* four hours ago and we want to get married!" Legal.
Rich lady: "I've been married SIX TIMES and want to get married again!" Legal.
Gay man: "We've been in a committed relationship for TWENTY YEARS and want to get married!" Illegal.
6. The only reason gay marriage is illegal is because SOME people think it's disgusting. Well, I think PEAS are disgusting. But no, I can go get however many PEAS I want.

@Allison, so, let's say I'm gay. That means I like girls. (Cuz I'm a girl.) So I have crushes on girls, but oh, I want to marry guys? *Thumps your head* NO.
Second, to the same person, so if gay marriage is wrong, BUT GAY PEOPLE AREN'T, are you suggesting that they just should never get married. NO.
Third, still to @Allison, marriage was not created, "Purely for family." It was to celebrate two people who LOVE each other and want to spend the rest of their lives together. Some married couples never have kids. And if it "ruins the chances by having two people of the same sex" then so be it. There are other ways. Like adoption. Or sperm donors for lesbians.
Think before you write.

I am thinking before I write. Heck, I'm researching before I write.
I think people are getting confused here. Attraction is different than love. That means it does not equal love. So, in short, your sexuality does not (and should not) affect who you marry because it's an attraction and attraction is not love. Love is love, and nothing else.
Yes, there are couples who can't have kids. That's fine. At least they tried, right? If they don't want kids, that's fine too. They can always change their minds.
But the thing is that gay couples can't even try at all.
I'm thinking before I write. I'm not trying to offend anyone. I'm simply stating my standards and beliefs *cough*like you are*cough* and I feel like I'm getting condemned and shamed for it.

Are you aware that in nature there are at least 450 different species where same gender matings have been observed? It ranges from butterflies to koala to dolphins and penguins. The god of Genesis :
" And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creeps on the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good."
There is in the bible more verses warning aginst male and female coupling than of female and female or male and male.
Finally, Allison - what is love (to you)? Describe it all if you can.
Allison ~God's NOT dead~ wrote: "Nico is Mine wrote: "Okay so re-reading these comments I have discovered three wrongs.

Ever heard of adoption?

Ever heard of adoption?

To quote Gaston, "Woman can, on occasion have their uses too. Mostly for extending the family tree!" That sounds like you think that if gay people get married then there won't be kids. So, I'm just expressing the wrongs in your empty-minded comments. *cough cough* and getting shamed for it.

The reason that there are more bible verses (though I'm just guessing) about male-female pairings is because they are 1) warning against adultery, and 2) because male-female is more common and because adultery has always been a problem.
@Nico is Mine: I wasn't trying to shame you for your comment. The way you worded yours as if I am stupid (in which I can assure you, I'm not) just offended me greatly. Saying that I was not shamed and then, in the same sentence, saying that my belief is shallow and narrow-minded was hurtful too.

Christ will come before sense to you.

Allison ~God's NOT dead~ wrote: "My sense has already come to me. Christ and Heavenly Father were the ones that established the law of marriage between man and woman only."
So you have a problem with gay marriage, but not gay people.
That's...confusing.
So you have a problem with gay marriage, but not gay people.

As we face this and other issues of our time, we encourage all to bear in mind our Heavenly Father’s purposes in creating the earth and providing for our mortal birth and experience here as His children. “God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth” (Genesis 1:27–28). “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). Marriage between a man and a woman was instituted by God and is central to His plan for His children and for the well-being of society. Strong families, guided by a loving mother and father, serve as the fundamental institution for nurturing children, instilling faith, and transmitting to future generations the moral strengths and values that are important to civilization and crucial to eternal salvation.
Changes in the civil law do not, indeed cannot, change the moral law that God has established. God expects us to uphold and keep His commandments regardless of divergent opinions or trends in society. His law of chastity is clear: sexual relations are proper only between a man and a woman who are legally and lawfully wedded as husband and wife.

Marriage is far more than a contract between individuals to ratify their affections and provide for mutual obligations. Rather, marriage is a vital institution for rearing children and teaching them to become responsible adults. Throughout the ages, governments of all types have recognized marriage as essential in preserving social stability and perpetuating life. Regardless of whether marriages were performed as a religious rite or a civil ceremony, in almost every culture marriage has been protected and endorsed by governments primarily to preserve and foster the institution most central to rearing children and teaching them the moral values that undergird civilization.
It is true that some couples who marry will not have children, either by choice or because of infertility. The special status granted marriage is nevertheless closely linked to the inherent powers and responsibilities of procreation and to the innate differences between the genders. By contrast, same-sex marriage is an institution no longer linked to gender—to the biological realities and complementary natures of male and female. Its effect is to decouple marriage from its central role in creating life, nurturing time-honored values, and fostering family bonds across generations.
In recent decades, high rates of divorce and out-of-wedlock births have resulted in an exceptionally large number of single parents. Many of these single parents have raised exemplary children. Extensive studies have shown, however, that a husband and wife who are united in a loving, committed marriage generally provide the ideal environment for protecting, nurturing, and raising children. This is in part because of the differing qualities and strengths that husbands and wives bring to the task by virtue of their gender. As an eminent academic on family life has written:
The burden of social science evidence supports the idea that gender differentiated parenting is important for human development and that the contribution of fathers to child rearing is unique and irreplaceable. . . . The complementarity of male and female parenting styles is striking and of enormous importance to a child’s overall development.
In view of the close links that have long existed between marriage, procreation, gender, and parenting, same-sex marriage cannot be regarded simply as the granting of a new “right.” It is a far-reaching redefinition of the very nature of marriage itself. It marks a fundamental change in the institution of marriage in ways that are contrary to God’s purposes for His children and detrimental to the long-term interests of society.

Marriage is far more than a contract between individuals to ratify their affections and provide for mutual obligations. Rather, marriage is a vital institution fo..."
But why should us unbelievers have to follow your Church's rules? Anyway, our society has already redefined marriage; it used to mean one man and one or more women, and/or one man and woman of the same race.

Dearest @Allison,
Thank you for speaking out against gay marriage. Because marriage should be a sacred bond between a man and 27 women.
That's what I thought.

Excuse me, but I do believe polygamy to be wrong. And I'm not Catholic, I'm Mormon. I couldn't care less what the Pope thinks. I don't even know who he is.

Riddle me this. The Bible says that divorce is illegal, so why aren't you campaigning to make that illegal?"
Our versions of the bible are different. My bible says that The Lord will excuse divorce in some circumstances.

Even a god finds it hard to love and be wise at the same time.

I was not claiming you nor your religion condoned polygamy; just that the standards of marriage can be and are changed over time. And as I said earlier, just because your religion says something is wrong does not mean that everyone else must follow that line.

Hi "Nico is mine", welcome to the thread. I would like to introduce you to my good colleague. Their name is Brown, play nice.

You see all these people? They are campaigning against you. No matter how much I love the Book of Mormon, the way you speak is not acceptable.
So excuse me for defending the people of the LGBT nation, that including myself, for you saying that the love we have is immoral, or not natural.
I highly recommend watching, "Supernatural," on CW so you will understand the profound bond that gay people can have as much as "straight" people.
(Get the reference? No? Okay.)
Or just look up "Destiel" on Youtube. Then see how much two men, (or women) can love each other.
Best wishes,
Nico is Mine.

But also: I see a lot of people criticizing Riordan for including a gay character for a book intended for young audiences. To this, I'd like to say: I knew I was gay – that is, attracted to other males – from the age of eight. Because of bullying and shame, I had to keep it secret, much like Nico. When I turned thirteen however, a close friend of mine that I'd confided in told my parents, effectively forcing me out of the closet. This led to depression, anxiety disorder, yadayadayada... Fortunately, now about to turn seventeen, I am a well-adjusted, homosexual, CHRISTIAN-faith-based man (with a touch of Daoism and Paganism, because HEY I've got an open mind!) with a strong base of friends who support me and who I am, because they've been exposed to alternative lifestyles at an early age, and had no qualms about talking to me after I came out of the closet officially. My point is, you may say that these issues are too inappropriate for children. The fact of the matter is, however, children deal with these issues every day. You think that your little twelve-year-old isn't talking about sex at the lunch table in the cafeteria? That is ALL that middle school boys and girls talk about after fifth grade! Honestly, adding this acceptance into books only encourages those kids to be more accepting about different lifestyles. They'll be talking about it anyway, but at least it's with a more open mind. Which I believe is the goal of Riordan's writing, as it is with most fantasy writers; to have an open mind.
Anyways, that was off topic. Back to the topic: yeah, I called Nico out on it from Titan's Curse. My gaydar transcends pages. :P
