The House of Hades

NICO… YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT O.o

I have always loved the Percy Jackson series. I will admit that Nico's coming out threw me for a loop, but I don't really see why ther..."
No it doesn`t mean you lose your soul. If someone thinks that then they`re highly idiotic. It just means that you`ve probably jacked up your life and will more than likely get judged for it.

Trust me, you probably should believe that there are Christians that support them. I'm 300% sure of it since, you know, I know them personally. And no, that does not make them any less of a Christian. It is their opinion. If you don't agree with it, fine, but that doesn't mean all other Christians do too.

Before I say anything else, let me just tell you I am not here to fight. I'm not here to argue. I'm not here to say that this person is wrong and this person is right. Obviously every single being on this discussion has their own viewpoints, their own say, and their own belief. Of course some of the past posts are a little harsh and they could of used any different matter of words to say how they feel, but attacking them with our own thoughts/beliefs is not going to change them. People are who they are, each one of us. You guys aren't even following with how the discussion was supposed to go. (Well some of you are.)We were supposed to discuss if Nico liking Percy was even relevant to the story, but some of you guys are throwing in homosexual news in the real world and the bible. The bible. When did it all of a sudden turn into a conversation about the bible? This isn't church or bible study first of all. This is a discussion about a fantasy, Greek mythology kids series.
Let me give you guys all a word to think of: Discriminate.
Discriminate (verb): to make a distinction in favor of or against a person or thing on the basis of the group, class, or category to which the person or thing belongs rather than according to actual merit; to note or observe a difference.
Got that definition right off of Dictionary.com.
Right now I am not really speaking to the people who are against homosexuality because they think it looks weird or it's just unnatural or it just simply makes them uncomfortable (because, believe it or not, those are actually reasonable examples to be against homosexuals). I'm more talking to the individuals that are against homosexuals because they believe the bible tells them to be. You are discriminating. Yes the bible does speak about not going for the same sex (not exactly in those words of course), but the bible also says not to discriminate. It feels as if your twisting at the words in the bible or turning them into more of a something that they are not. Don't judge people because they are different. If they are not like you, if they don't carry the same morals or values, that doesn't mean what they believe or feel is horrible or shameful. Discriminating, going against homosexuals, is just as bad as being racist. You are defining people who are lower than you or 'idiotic' as a bad person or someone who shouldn't be here just because they don't think and act as you do. What church do you go to that encourages discrimination? I am a Christian. My grandfather is a pastor and he would pop me in the back of the head if he saw me discriminating someone just cause they are not like me. If in the bible it had stated that when making a sandwich you must use peanut butter and jelly and ONLY peanut butter and jelly but you find out your friend loves eating mustard and ketchup sandwiches (yes, disgusting I'm just using an example), are you going to put your hand up in their face and yell "no, how dare you, your going to hell"? probably not because that's ridiculous. So how come you feel the need to say, or think, that to the people that are attracted to the same sex. There's no such thing as being more of a Christian or less of a Christian. Your either a Christian or your not. And if you are a homosexual, that doesn't take your belief in Christ away. If a homosexual seven year old (yes, they can figure out who they are at that young) is killed in a car crash in the next few seconds, do you really believe God is going to throw that child in Hell because they have a crush on the same sex? My God wouldn't do that. That's not the type of God I believe in.
Like I had said, i'm not here to say that this person is wrong or this person is right. I said how i personally feel and i had that right just like everyone else on this discussion. It just concerns me, no confuses me, how homosexuals could bother Christians so much. They didn't kill anybody. They didn't have sex before getting married or cheat on there mate with their neighbor. All they did was find someone they loved and want to spend the rest of their lives with. Isn't that the point of life anyway?
Anyway, I've posted on this discussion before. I have no idea where my comment is in all those 59 pages but i'm pretty sure i said something about how i love the new twist and it was a great story. I also didn't expect it at all, but i think it's cool. And people it's not like the story is going to revolve around Nico having a crush on Percy. Maybe Rick did it because of the public, maybe he did it because of the fan-fiction, and maybe he did it because it was his plan all along. But it's his books, it's his stories and he can do what he wants with them. If he wants Nico to have a crush on Percy, then Nico's going to have a crush on Percy. If he wants Jason to stab himself or for Hazel to runaway and fall in love with a satyr, then i guess that's what's going to happen. Some people saw clues and some people saw nothing at all. But i think we all should nod our head and give Rick a small clap because he took a huge chance, and he knows it himself. It would really blow if he loses more readers than gains.
To finally end this post (i know it's freckin long, i wouldn't blame you if you didn't even read all of it)lets just all enjoy what we love about the series. The action, the Greek gods, Leo's funny moments, and the adventure. Don't give up on the series because of one chapter and one character. I promise you, whatever you hated about The House of Hades, Blood of Olympus will make up for it.
And one more thing. About whether Nico having a crush on a male is inappropriate for kids, let's leave that up for the parents to decide whether they want their kid to read it or not. Sense i think most of us on this discussion don't even have kids.

That was pretty awesome. I really like all of what you said. You made some VERY good points!

Most of the devote discussioners left the thread because they had enough, any new person will just read the first page and start going off on Jasmine or saying they don't like it(in an obnoxious way) and people will gang up on them.
I'm just lurking to see how other people felt and so no one can twist my words against me *cough cough*.

I'm laughing so hard because I thought I was the only one who thought that (minus not supporting Riordan and the horrifying).

I know! If someone who doesn`t support the gay agenda brings their opinion up than you would think all hells broke loose but if someone who does support the gay agenda brings up their opinion than everyones is talking about how they`re such a good person. totally ridiculous!

They themselves will push away supporters they have because of their own attitudes, I mean who wants to be ridiculed when they know that they are a firm supporter or believer in what they were being ridiculed for in the first place(not saying I'm a supporter I'm just indifferent).
I read an article that the LGBT community is bashing a gay woman(A BBC Sports corespondent) for going to the Winter Games and Reporting the event.... if they would bash their own people... what else would they do? This and a bunch of other stuff I've seen shows that they don't really want equality but superiority, they are right in everything they do and if you disagree you are homophobic... you may think i exaggerate or playing to the extreme.... but I'm not; I don't know of the whole community but I've seen some of their members behave just like that(feminist gays are the worst).

That's because most of the comments against homosexuals have been insulting and rude. They weren't simply stating their stance, they went the extra mile and preached about how certain humans are disgusting and vile. THAT is unacceptable. I don't particularly care if you don't support gays, just remember that they're real people, okay? Simply state you don't agree and leave it.
As to Nico, if someone wants to boycott such a fantastic series right before the conclusion, then it's their loss. The Heroes of Olympus series is amazing.

Because Rick didn't want to spoil the little love Nico has!!!!!!! Seriously this dude needed a heart. So that means he might have a pov in tboo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's because most of the comments against homosexuals ha..."
I totally agree with you. Nico di Angelo should not be judged on who he loves. Percy Jackson is fine and I give permission to Nico to love him because that would mean he actually has a heart in that cold, heartless body.
OH MY GOSH YES I CAN FINALLY POST ON THIS THREAD. IT HAS BEEN ACTING UP AND I COULDN'T POST FOR A LOOOOONG TIME UGH. It's the same with my shelves. I can't post books I completed or want to read and so on. Finally. I noticed I missed out on A LOOOOT. This topic has been going in circles but you know we got new faces to add on to what we're saying and bring up good and bad points. Also, I read Angelfall and ugh it sucked, sorry. I have a rule: I'll read the first 60 pages of a book that's been recommended to me and if I don't like it the, BAM! it gets dropped. I have no patience, I'm sorry. Angelfall wasn't my thing especially with all those angels. Haven't read WOK yet because the stupid order has been delayed and I had to reorder it but my mom suspended my debit card and stuff and UGH. Sorry, total rant here. Well, yeah anyways I'm home guys! Where's my Welcome Home party?
Oh yeah for those who think that Rick is going to find someone for Nico in the BoO, I react like: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA no. That would be so cliche and stupid. Like, oh let's find someone to be with Nico before the series ends, hurry! If that happened then I would drop the book right away. I think Rick has the common sense not to do that. Also Nico is SO not ending up with Percy. It would be stupid to break up Percabeth after so many books of them together so that Percy will randomly become gay and fall in love with Nico. Uh, no it's not going to happen. I may read tons of Percico fanfics and save a bunch of Percico fan art but sadly it will not happen and I ship Percabeth too much to ship Percico, even though I realllyyyy like Percico.
Whoa Claire, so you think Nico is cold an heartless? I think Nico has more emotions than all of the seven. How can be heartless if he feels grief and love and misery and pain and loneliness and anger? He's only cold because he's putting up a front. Um is it me or can we consider Leo to be a little heartless? Wait I didn't mean it like that..um I mean it like don't yu get the feeling that Leo cares more about machines than his friends? Uh I don't know but if we ha to vote most heartless of the seven + Nico I would choose Leo. And the least heartless would be Nico. Which looks like a complete opposite because people think Nico is most heartless and Leo is least heartless but it's kinda true. And also, don't wanna sound rude, but I agree with Kevin.. Since when did Nico need your permission to fall in love with Percy? Nico is a FFFRREEEE man. No seriously though he really is a free man, he doesn't belong to Camp Half Blood nor Camp Jupiter. He's Hades's ambassador or the ambassador of Pluto but whatever. Greek or Roman, I don't care they're still gods.

I always knew there was something more to his anger/grief, of course, because a lot of characters have suffered from the misery of losing a loved one but Nico's grief/anger was really great and his anger/grief stayed for many months, maybe even years. But I never expected it to be a crush on the guy who supposedly broke a promise and killed his sister. I was like, "wow..well then.." But you know after thinking about it, it was kind of obvious from the way Nico acted around Percy. And then I was like, "brilliant!" in a British accent (idk why, don't ask). Overall, I thought it was brilliant (in a British accent). Brilliant (British). Brill ain't (American). Brilliant (British). Brill ain't (american). Oh yeah anyways it was brilliain't.
Wait so who thinks that Bianca knew about Nico being gay? Did Bianca know or did she NOT know? I think she did. There was something that Nico said that showed that she knew but I'm not sure.

I think it's likely, although we cannot say for sure. The quote goes something like this
"Only Bianca accepted me, and she died!"
However, it's not clear from the context whether he's referring to his sexuality or about being an outcast in general.
Oh yeah that was the quote that made me think she knew, thanks. Yeah I'm not sure if he meant about his sexuality either. But I think since they were talking about him having a crush on Percy, then it was most likely his sexuality that Bianca accepted but I'm not so sure. Hopefully Hazel will accept him.

Please don't drop WOK, if anything wait till you grow some more patience or read Sanderson's other(more shorter) books first to gain a hype... because it will be hundreds of pages before you get fully sucked in. The first couple hundred pages are a slow build up.. not all books are instant gratification and those that are usually can't keep it up and die horribily before the end.
Okay fine I'll give WOK special treatment and read 130 pages instead of 60 and if it's still boring then I'll stop it because I have no patience, sorry. At least WOK gets special treatment :D

... It's 1000+ pages long -_- and you will only give it 130....

@Kevin Uh well I mentioned that I am SO not patient and that's Sanderson's fault for making a book 1000+ pages long like, are ya crazy? He should have split it into two books but you know maybe I'll boost it to 160 pages. That's it. If his book is so good, then by 130-160, I should be immersed in it. If I'm not, then, well, it goes straight to my shelf of Untouched Books.
@Cecerose I think it was the whole angel apocolypse thing that didn't appeal to me at the beginning. Like I said before I haaaaate apocolypses, especially angel apocolypses. It was kind of interesting but overall I wasn't too into it but you know, you're right it takes time for authors to get a reader into a book and I should have given it a chance (60 pages is not really a chance, I know) but I can't help that I'm so impatient with books. I will give it a chance one day, I really will. Maybe now is not the time. I'm so picky :(
@Caleb You know, that's a really good point you brought up but from the way Nico was talking about how he was rejected by society and stuff, it was almost like he was already gay, before he met Percy. And if he was, then Bianca must have known about it. But if he's only gay after he met Percy, then that is a different case. Bianca can't possibly know that considering she's dead unless Nico has told her when he summoned her ghost.

It does, but I started at Mistborn, then after a dry spell with no books, warbreaker... then elantris after that I would read anything by Sanderson, so I got WOK, then Steelheart(am I missing anything?)

i was totaly in love him :(! and completely caught off guard when i found out he was gay, but i think that its better that way more drama wonder what gunna go on in the next book 0.o

People can take it too far but you didn`t hear anything insulting from me. I got in an argument with an atheist earlier(a few pages back) and she was cussing and going crazy because I didn`t think it was right to be a homesexual so....*drum role*.....its not just the people who are against homesexuality that are losing it and once again I`ll say that I didn`t say anything insulting about them, I just said I didn`t agree with it....I will admit that the atheist lady ticked me off a few times(lol)

That's what I've been trying to get across, but it seems more than a book to some... like a step towards something "greater!!!!!"

lol! you don`t know how many times I`ve thought about just not commenting any more but then I get bored sometime during the day and get on here. Its always interesting:)

OMG WHO SAW THE NEW LIGHTNING THIEF COVER?! It looks soooooo cool! Can't wait for the rest coming out this following week!
YEEEEES I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR SO LONG!!! Gotta read the excerpt RIGHT NOW! Annabeth and Sadie !!

Um... No... I'll go look it up!

may I just ask how did they combine two tottaly different mythologyies together thanks
I love Harry Potter so much because it's just pure fantasy! I love fantasy so much. Also JK Rowling combined wizards with schools. We all went or go to school and just seeing wizards going to school like us and taking classes, getting detentions, doing homework and all that stuff is just so cool. Harry makes friends, deals with bullies (ily Draco) and rotten teachers (ily Snape) and just faces problems lots of us face but at the same time he has to fight an evil wizard (screw you Voldy) and the series teaches us so many lessons and I just love it to death. It's a really good series !
Well Rick combined two different mythologies in the Son of Sobek perfectly I don't see why he can't do the same for the Staff of Serapis

I amit is a good series but why did it take off when percy jackson stayed only popular in bookland i just never under stood how people think its better than say artemis fowl

did he explained how they combined because I love mythology and never understood how 2 tottaly different myths can be in the same univese
Harry Potter IS better than Artemis Fowl. Artemis Fowl is good, but not as AMAZHANGISHFULAWESHUMPOWERNICORAINBOWORLDRACOEXTREMENDEARINGREATERRIFICMALFOYLOVESCREAMINGWITHJOYPOWERLOVENICODRACOMALFOYDIANGELOLOVEPOWERPOWERPOWERLOOOVE as Harry Potter is :)

I find this hard to believe considering the fact that the Bible talks about how it should a man and a woman not anything else.
