No, you have that bad vibe coming off. I would know, I get it a lot from my dad. The point is you might not mean it like that but that's how I interpret it.

message 2404: by Fatima (new) - rated it 5 stars

Fatima It seemed extremely last minute to me. There was absolutely NO indication he was gay before this. I'm not saying that it's a terrible thing and we're all going to die, but I felt it wasn't necessary. Yes, we actually won't know until Blood Of Olympus, but at the moment, it doesn't seem necessary.

All in all, I just feel as if it was added in on a whim (hey, that rhymes!) and a little like BOOM. I'm not thinking about it 24/7 but it's like I can't read any recent fanfic without him being gay as the Central plot. Really. But back to the point! It's simply my opinion, and I'm entitled to it. I'd appreciate if you respected it.

Well sorry if that is what you thought I was implying but as someone who dealt/deals with depression that was cause by humanity I get heated when someone says "suck it up" they don't know how it feels and what goes through your mind on what action to take to make your self feel better.(view spoiler)

It also gets to me when people blindly defend someone saying "they can do no wrong" as with some of the many posts in this thread in regards to Rick.

It's blind devotion like that, that's makes people look past the faults of a person and allow them to get away with things. Like I said I'm cynical.

message 2406: by Manofaction (new)

Manofaction it wasnt the part that he was gay that bothered me as much as the lousy explanations given for it (by the readers, the author did what he wanted to).I mean come on,if someone felt off after reading this because it felt odd to that person, does that make him a homophobe?of course not but in such discussions (one in which i participated)people blindly assumed that.then i came here and again tha same thing was happening!

no thay are not, man.they just have a problem with one little thing in a book and they are stating why.

message 2408: by Maurya (new)

Maurya the only good thing about it was that it wasnt the worst part of this lousy book in an okay series(the first 2 were good, but the third one really sucked.i mean, what the hell!your camp just got blown to bits and 3 Romans defended the Greek ship instead of their camp?)

The whole reason I started posting here was because I saw how people were ganging up on people that disliked it. I mean some people were crass and spoke fouly(is that how you spell it?) yes you have a right to defend your views and what not, but some people were respectful stated what they wanted to say and left, and they got eaten out about it.

An example of this would be the mother and her daughter in one of my above post.

Yea I started to see a decline in Rick's writing/plotting abilities, now that I look back I think he should have ended with the PJO series, all he seems to be doing is beating a dead horse, I think he wrung all he could about the greeks and their counter parts. He needs to move onto the norse, the jokes and idiotic ways of monsters etc is getting annoying.

Rebecca Doi Lucas wrote: "I just read to where nick admits hes gay and my first thought was: what the hell are u doing rick!!!! But seriously what exactly was he thinking?"

What's wrong with Rick making Nico gay? I mean sure... He's gay. But that doesn't change ANYTHING except for the fact that he's attracted to guys instead of girls. There's like, NO DIFFERENCE. We're all the same. So really. Seriously? 'What exactly was he thinking?' Yeah, sure. But that's a little... Harsh, from my point of view. Or offensive.

Emma Belle I think that its totally messed up that RR put him as gay in this book. It was supposed to be readable for younger kids also! They`re pushing the whole homesexual thing everywhere. Its not like I`m gonna say "Oh he`s gay so I won`t treat him like anyone else. I`ll be rude to him and ignore him." No. I`m not saying that....but I don`t agree with the lifestyle that books and TV is trying to push. I did like how in the book Nico did kind of redeem himself when he said that he was sorry and how it was stupid...but still it`s obvious what they are trying to push....and yes Nico is still one of my fav characters in those books.

NOT TRUE! I read the book but that doesn`t change the fact that what RR did to it was totally jacked. It IS horrifying and it IS inappropriate! They`re trying to push homesexualty in everything and its wrong! I`m not saying that when I see a homesexual I`m going to be rude or ignore them but I AM saying that no matter what their lifestyle is WRONG. What these people have chosen isn`t cool and it isn`t right.

message 2437: by Lizzie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lizzie I like how he had Nico like someone, but I never expected this.

message 2438: by Annlise (new) - rated it 5 stars

Annlise This thread...just wow...I actually took the time to read to 47 before I stopped (I guess that makes me a stalker, but I don't care)....just wow.

Also, I sort of judged Rick in the beginning (NOT BECAUSE I'M AGAINST HOMOSEXUALS) but because it was so unexpected...no foreshadowing...no warning...no NOTHING! But after the shock, I got over it, and was very happy that I at least got a little Nico development. Even though his past and history is explained in the actual PJO series, he comes off as all dark, moody, and mysterious in HOO, and I'm just like "NO! WHERE'D MY BABY GO!?", and then it was explained why he seemed like that, and I'm just staring at the books, like "HOW?" and "WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS!?" and "YOU DO KNOW WHAT YOU JUST DID, RIGHT? CONTROVERSY! YOU'VE CREATED CONTROVERSY!" and "Jason, I never liked you, but in this moment, you are decent...DECENT!" and then I just said, "Ah whatever,", got over it, and continued reading. And now I'm honestly worried that Nico's going to do something stupid (like dying for Percy, maybe?). Honestly, I just need to read this next book. COME ON, BLOOD OF OLYMPUS, GET HERE ALREADY.

message 2439: by Lizzie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lizzie I KNOW RIGHT? NICO WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS!

message 2440: by Annlise (new) - rated it 5 stars

Annlise He still is one of mine, and I just couldn't believe it...until I did, and I always thought he had a crush on Annabeth, but it was Percy. I was so confused, but I guess if Rick actually does something with this in the next book, I don't think I'd count it against him at all because it would fit somewhere into the greater plot. I feel like this is just one of those plot bunnies that struck him when he was almost done writing. Like,

Rick: *writing HoH* I feel like the book is missing something...but what?

Fangirls: We love Nico.

Rick: I feel like I should do something with Nico...but how?

Rick: *lightbulb goes off* OH, I know. I'll do the one thing that'll crush a bunch of fangirls hearts. I'll make him be love Percy, and create controversy while I'm at it. All in the name of character development!

Rick: *as an afterthought *OH, and I should also get rid of Bob, he's a nuisance.

message 2441: by Lizzie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lizzie Oh my, you must love this guy :)
One of my friends threatened to tie RR in a chair and make him rewrite the book and take his oreos 0_0

message 2442: by Annlise (new) - rated it 5 stars

Annlise Lol, YES. But really, I'm glad that Nico's the way he is. No, it's if he kills him off is what I'm worried about. If he kills off any of my favorite characters, I WILL start leaving strongly worded comments on his Facebook page...cause in all reality, I'm probably too lazy to actually go through the trouble to stalk him. BUT, ya know, for Nico, I might just do it.

A bunch of stuff but people just skip what I have to say or don't respond, Goodreads should make a feature where you can see all of a person's post in a thread....

Going and make that suggestion in their box right now.

Borislava Ivova I admit, i did not see that comin'. But i have the strangest feeling that Nico will eventually fall for Rayna. I mean, i'm not sure whether this ship will be end game, because i think Rick wants to stick with Nico being who he is, but you never know right. :) The roman is quite the tomboy and Nico might undergo some kind of character development... I dunno. I guess the only way we find out is to wait for the fifth book.

message 2448: by [deleted user] (new)

Honestly, because Rick made Nico have some feelings for Percy it made the book better in a way. In the books, none of the other characters thought much of him, the son of hades, hazels brother, very powerful... Jason went with him to meet cupid and he has a crush on percy. Jason now realizes that nico is as human as the rest of him,he just must have been scared of his feelings and wanted to push everyone out except for hazel.Rick is also taking this from the ordinal myth as well and you can't change that. I'm glad that Rick made it like this. I think the kids that are reading this series should know that being gay/lesbian is okay. If you don't like it,I won't push you to change your ways, but don't make fun of or hurt those kids that are gay/lesbian, they don't deserve it and you should respect their feelings.
