Wow I've never seen a public school like that probably because I live in NYC >_> Don't live there. And I was like that in middle school like I would stress myself out to the point that I would get insane fevers and stuff because my step father is crazy on my academics and pressures me. He'd tell me to aim for 95's and higher but after he got into an argument with my biological dad, he stopped pressuring me to do my work. Which of course made me the stupid person I am today that gets 65's. But it better than over stressing. It's sad to think getting 65's is better than over stressing but I just don't want anymore fevers xD I think that people shouldn't be pressured to aim really high or else you'd get an extremes fever (which, trust me, you do not). I think aiming for what you want is good. And your step brother must be a academic crazy boy if he wants to retake it to get 100+ more points. He should stay at the grade he is now. But you know, that's him and you're you and I'm me. Everyone feels differently. (That rhymes!)
That's what I do when I'm stressed. I watch YouTube vids (nigahiga) and stuff because they make me laugh LOL. Anyways be a good girl and don't over stress yourself :) Be proud that you actually get high grades unlike some people out there :D but don't procrastinate too much with the YouTube vids!

cindy Yeah, I totally get you. One of the saddest things at my school is that even when people are sick, no one wants to be absent for even one day otherwise they'll fall behind and have to make up extra work, so they stay sick and go to school anyways, which is not only bad for their health, but can cause other people to be sick. And the saddest thing is that I knOW this and even I never miss school otherwise the overload of hw would be too much and I'm not willing to do that. Good thing I don't get sick much.

And my stepbro knows that he can get 2300+ because he's gotten them before on practice tests, so he's not as worried as me. But yeah, he is hella smart which makes me look bad a lot. LOL. And nah, at my school, my grades are average. Math screws me over :'(

LOL THATS FUNNY BECAUSE I WAS JUST WATCHING NIGAHIGA'S NEW VIDEO. I LOVE HIM. he's perfff. Do you know danisnotonfire? He's one of my faves

message 2303: by [deleted user] (new)

I know I hate it when sick people come to school. Like, stay home or you'll spread your germs all over me >_> Well your step bro sure is damn smart. Idk if that even makes sense but you get what I mean. Sure is damn smart. LOL it sounds weird. Anyways getting off topic here. So, nope I don't know danisnotonfire but I'll check this Dan who doesn't seem to be on fire. Is the name like a joke? Like a stupider way to say "I'm alive." Nigahiga is totally funny and hilarious I watched all his videos. He's also really cuuute!

message 2304: by [deleted user] (new)

Math sucks ! I am absolutely perfect in Global though. I love Global it's just so interesting to learn about people back then and how they live their life and how the world evolved to become this piece of disgusting but also beautiful thing we live in.

message 2305: by cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy LOL Dan is really sarcastic but hilarious and he's just perf. And tbh I'm not really sure where he got his name from, and I've watched all his videos. I think he just picked it randomly.

Wait by Global do you mean history? Or is it something else? We don't call it Global over here so I'm not sure

message 2306: by [deleted user] (new)

Yep global is world history. I just luuuurrrvee it! I'll watch the Dan guy soon!

message 2307: by Natasha (new) - added it

Natasha Lolz you guys. You know Avalon, I'm pretty sure I'm actually only taking the minimum required amount of subjects for my state... There's the core subjects (English, math, science, & history) and a minimum required amount of electives. The exception is the Drivers' Ed, of course. That's not required. Mom just wants me to have my drivers' license, and I can't get that legally until I take that... lol

*whispers* And don't tell anyone, but Mom is technically by law supposed to be teaching it to me... but like I said, she trusts me, so I'm just taking it on my own like the other subjects xD

Don;t ask me about SAT scores. I still don't even really know how that stuff works. I can't remember what scores my brothers got ( I have four older brothers)

It is kind of amusing how you can put an asterisk in the middle of a curse word and it miraculously makes it okay in people's eyes. Oh, and I don't think crap is really considered a curse word... Not by the majority of people, anyway.

message 2308: by Natasha (new) - added it

Natasha I don't really like world history (or rather, history in general) sometimes. Like, reading of these wars and genocides just make me sick. I read last year about some of the serious crap that the United Nations has done and promoted... well, let's just say I hate the United Nations now. Some of my own nation's history makes me pretty angry, as well. I guess that's why they say you have history to learn from your mistakes... but sometimes it doesn't really seem like we're learning from our mistakes, too much. Slightly off on a bunny trail, but do those people who say the Holocaust never happened tick you off? They tick me off. Lol

Parker Because I am bad at math! Mal! And my teacher gives us a ton of homework and doesn't expalin things well and she used to be an engineer and she expects us all to be geniuses! And I'm bad at math! Did I mention that?

I totally agree with you. Bob was nice to Percy because of you, Nico. I am going to be completely honest with you. You saved my favorite character's butt. You did have it coming for you ever since the 4th book.

NOTE TO EVERYONE
STOP JUDGING NICO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He is awesome if he's gay or not. If you need further notice, just watch Kid President on YouTube. It is very inspirational. Nico could go there too, maybe people will stop JUDGING you. (Book characters included, looking at you, Leo. I've got my eye on you!!! 8| 8| 8|

We're not judging Nico(at least I'm not judging him) it's Rick that everyone has the problem with and the way he went around doing things.

Blogger Girl Goodreads will teach you how to be better at math? O.o

message 2316: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie I used to be terrible at math (and I mean TERRIBLE. I would spend 3 or 4 hours on homework that should have only taken 1)... I never thought I'd need it because I expected to go into teaching elementary education. When I changed my major to biology I almost gave up on my first semester. I took college algebra and every single day I would tell myself that I could never make it to calculus and that I should just give up and not waste my time. I'm in precalculus now and I'm 3rd in my class. :) math is a lot of work, but you can do it if you work hard at it.

message 2317: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie And don't get me wrong, math still doesn't come easy to me... But I've gotten much better :)

Cherie ;) I was in an inspirational kind of mood lol

message 2321: by Kuroi (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kuroi This seems to be a really long thread. I don't think Uncle Rick intended for Nico to be gay until this book, hence the lack of hints in the other books. I think it makes for excellent character development and gives some weight to the book. For those who are worried about the age group, well, given that it's a widespread reality now, I am not really sure middle graders would be shocked.
From experience, little kids can be far more disturbing than some adults...

Niecy Jackson I really liked that Nico liked Percy. When Cupid was pestering him and Jason i kind of seen it coming. I really love Nico and hope that he does get a chapter to explain all of this.

I hope so too.Anyways it did say that Cupid's assistant was gay Plus Apollo might even be gay. I think this part of the book will make Nico even popular

message 2327: by Justice (new)

Justice Haigh Speaking that the series started back in 2005, the audience are mostly teenagers. I feel like the implication that Nico is gay puts a more mature twist on things.

I would not have been in the thread if i didn't read the book and i would not have read this much simplistic writing if I didn't like the series beforehand, so yea.. i like Percy Jackson but i think I'm getting too old for it the writing irks me.

I mean you can write a great book without sex and profanity(Sanderson does it) but starting with the last couple books(maybe son of Neptune?) I've kindled a growing dislike for the series, its too childish and mostly predictable (view spoiler) the only thing the series has is how they get there. I will read the last book only because i want to finish the series, then I will not touch anything Percy Jackson again(I'm looking at you movies. If the Norse series grabs my fancy i might start that... if not Rick will be DROPPED from my list of authors that i read from.

message 2334: by Mama (new)

Mama Uuuuhg, I haven't read it yet, because I thought they would be stupid, but I've been shipping Nico x Percy since I read the... fourth book? When he saved Percy from the Titan. I'm so HAPPY that Nico is gay, call me a fag-hag all you want, but it just makes me happy.

If Nico doesn't end up with Percy I'll be sad, but I get it, Annabeth is Percy's love, and nothing will stop that. I hope Nico-bby has a happy ending with someone though <3 I can't wait to read it!

notyourfriend If Nico ends up with Percy, someone better take those books out of my hands and away from fire.

i really agree... i frickin grew up reading all of these. The more and more I read his books the more the characters annoy me. Chances are I'll do like you said and finish this series but i'm not touching anything else. I also find Nico being gay.......... unnecessary... let me get this straight, i dont hate gays. But this series is for the younger crowd who really shouldn't even concern themselves with things like that at their point in life.

Except it's kind of like sex ed, in my opinion. I'm 16, and I still have not had "the talk" from my parents. I live in a Christian home, never once went to public school (nor did my four brothers), and yet I still know without them having to tell me. How? Various reasons, and the internet, especially. They should have told me when I was 11 or 12, because that was when I found the stuff out on my own. I think it's the same with homosexuality. Kids need to know this stuff exist - you can't just stuff in under the rug for them to get shocked by it whenever they see a gay couple in the grocery store or in a movie. Granted, I do know it's not exactly an author's place to educate children, but I think he means well, even if he might could have done it better. In fact, I think that since being gay isn't automatically graphic or mature, like say sex ed, and there are many who know they're gay when they're 13, this IS a matter for children. I still don't get the opinion that homosexuality is an adult matter, when there are so many kids who are struggling with it. Can you give the actual reason for it being an adult matter? Because I've seen several people just say that is - not giving evidence for it. I genuinely want to know.

message 2340: by Natasha (new) - added it

Natasha I think it's possible to have a cute gay crush - just like you could have a cute straight crush. I don't think anyone protested when Percy had a crush on Annabeth, did they? Why is this so different? (I mean, I know the answer is "It's gay!" but I want to know why that makes it so much different.

I agree with what you said. Personally i don't see the big deal. I bet this "it's a book for kids" is just another way to cover up the real distress over the fact that someone was made gay in a story. As my mother always said, Suck up (and deal with it) or Shut Up (and still deal with it)
