Good. Gay people aren't some mythical creature and there's a good chance some of those little kids might be. They deserve to know it's not some abnormal thing and they're not alone.

Cherie I found this excellent flow chart a while back... A lot of fantasy and sci-fi :p

I would like to get to a lot of these :p

Most(some) of the books I suggested are listed there and Brandon Sanderson is on it twice.
;_; March 4th where are you

message 2104: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie Yeah most of the books on that list are on my to read shelf. Brandon Sanderson is high on my reading list for this year :p

message 2105: by [deleted user] (new)

I just did that flow chart and I got recommended the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss, I think that's his name the chart is kinda blurry on my iPhone, pretty hard to read anything. I was looking around and I saw (more like squinted) at the top left they had a book called The Mists of Avalon which I am very tempted to read considering it has my name though I'm pretty sure it's somewhere in my moms library, she loves Arthurian legends. Heck, I'm sure she has all the Arthurian legend related book that were on the chart. Also, seeing that Brandon Sanderson is on the chart twice, I am also tempted to read WOK already before starting on the other books but I'm gonna hold it off until I finish Angelfall and Unwind because WOK is just too long (but that's a good thing). That's a really great flow chart I like it, thanks for sharing it Cherie maybe I could fill the gap that's waiting for BoO with a bunch of the fantasy books shown.

All his books except the library kid ones are interconnected and BIG spoiler if you look hard enough you will see a guy showing up in his different books(I had to find out about it online years after reading his books and looking for anything Sanderson to fill my time).

When you read a good set of books google the cosmere(with Brandon Sanderson's name duh) and be shocked at the scope and forthought that was put into these books.

message 2107: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah I read the synopsis on Goodreads and it seems pretty good and the rates were high so I decided to start on it first. I mean I really don't like how apocalypse books are nowadays and angel apocalypse books bug me but I think Angelfall is definitely worth a try.

I read all of his books(except the kid library series), look at my read list.

message 2109: by Kevin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin @avalon I loved the Kingkiller Chronicles but I didn't suggest because of all the adult stuff happening in the books(view spoiler) and most people like to call the main protagonist a "gary sue"

Add it to your "when I'm more mature" section with Gentlemen Bastards, I don't want you missing out on a good book(shelf of never to touch again) because you read it too young.

message 2110: by Kevin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin Avalon wrote: "Yeah I read the synopsis on Goodreads and it seems pretty good and the rates were high so I decided to start on it first. I mean I really don't like how apocalypse books are nowadays..."

Faith Hunter wrote an angel apocalypse trilogy um something with mage in it can't remember, anyways I enjoyed it although many guys don't read female authors because "its always about love" or "they always let emotion slip in where it is not needed" I would read and most times its just as stated before(I'm watching you hush hush series) but sometimes you get some truely talented authors who actually can write a story and not some Daniel Steele romance novel with magic in it.

message 2111: by [deleted user] (new)

Damn it I was going to order the Kingkiller Chronicles but now I see it's an adult book. Well it's just going to stay in the "when I get older" section with Gentleman Bastard.

Also you probably meant the Rogue Mage series by Faith Hunter? (Searched it up). Is it an adult book? I might read it but I'm not too good with apocalypse books, especially angel apocalypse books, they really piss me off.

Kevin Avalon wrote: " Also you probably meant the Rogue Mage series by Faith Hunter? (Searched it up). Is it an adult book? I might read it but I'm not too good with apocalypse books, especially angel apocalypse books, they really piss me off. .."

Yes Rogue Mage... it started off ok, you know the suffer not a witch to live spiel... then the later books.... >_> yea put that in your older shelf or read some of the reviews.. its kinda heavy lusting after flesh, but I can't remember if the protagonist openly does it or if it's just a passing mention.... I'm corrupting the new generation ;_;

message 2113: by [deleted user] (new)

And yet another book to put in my older section. I feel like, heck just read the older ones Avalon, who cares if there's cussing and lust? But then I'm like, I'll just wait because I don't want to experience that sort of stuff at a young age, I wanna keep my youth innocent and pure unlike some other people out there who tarnish their damn youth but yeah, I guess I'll just wait. I'll get tarnished in the future.

message 2114: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie Read them when you are ready... If you read them too soon it might put you off to the books. there are plenty of books to read in the meantime.

message 2115: by cindy (last edited Jan 22, 2014 03:52PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy I don't read that many fantasy books, but one series I really enjoy is the Graceling series by Kristin Cashore. However, with this series, I feel like people either really love it or really hate the author's feminism (tbh I personally don't really care bc I love the the characters), but I definitely recommend it. It has three books in it, Graceling, Fire, and Bitterblue. Graceling has some romance in it, but imo it doesn't weaken the plot whatsoever. Fire has a bit more romance than the other two, but I don't think it overwhelms the plot. Each of the books focus on different characters. Personally, I love the series.

Your comment is violating, and horrifying. You imply that homosexuality is an "episode" that can be outgrown or overcome, when it's anything but. I'm sure that MANY more authors than you know support gay rights, some of them probably your favorites. J.K. Rowling tricked you; she didn't reveal that Dumbledore was gay until well after the books were published and read and consumed. She didn't think it was important to make an issue of it, because it's NOT an issue.

message 2117: by Kevin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin Ugh I'm at the point where I don't want to see Jasmine's comments quoted anymore.

@avalon I know for a fact that you can read Brandon Sanderson right now, also I was going to read Graceling but I dropped it.... I thought the story would have made up for the romance crap but after reading countless reviews both high and low I decided I didn't want to give it a chance. Though I would try Kuriel's Dart or w/e it's spelt and I read Anne Bishop(don't even touch this Avalon)

message 2118: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha :') I like how you guys are all recommending me books and telling me what's adult and not or what I should or should not read xDD Idk why it's funny to me. Well I know that I'm definitely reading WOK and more of Brandon Sanderson's work. WOK is categorized into high fantasy and I adore high fantasy.

message 2119: by [deleted user] (new)

Btw idk about Graceling, I read the summary and it's not getting to me. I don't find it interesting no offense to Graceling fans.

message 2120: by [deleted user] (new)

I should wait until I'm older to read those kinds of books because I'm not into adult themes in literature and if I read it now I may not understand what the flying rats butt is going on which might lead me to disliking the book when, in fact, it's an amazing book. But because I read it when I was young and I didn't understand anything, I didn't like it. However when I'm older I'm able to understand what the flying rats butt is going on and I'll like it :) Well that's what I think whenever I see adult books. This kind of stuff had happened to me when I was like 7-10 yrs old and I didn't like the books. But now I reread the books and it makes total sense and I liked the books. Oh gosh I feel all Einsteiny writing this which is sad if I think this is what smart sounds like (removing the flying rats butt stuff).

Sorry about that, I literally just saw this discussion board and hopped on!

message 2122: by cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy LOL. Trust me, the summary on Goodreads no way captures the plot. At all. Tbh, the summary is written in a way to cater to the teenage demographic, but there's really much more to it than that. There is romance, but it doesn't overwhelm the plot. At all. The mc is the opposite of a Bella Swan type of character trope, one of the strongest female leads I've read about. But some people are slightly put off by the author's very feminist views, so if you're not into that, don't read it I guess. But I still think you should give it a try, but if you're still not sure, maybe add it to a "maybe" list?

message 2123: by [deleted user] (new)

Oooh strong female leads, haven't seen those in a while. Ten points to Graceling. Um about feminist views and such, I don't really have a thing against feminist people but sometimes I think they go to extremes which can get kinda annoying but I'll try to look past it in the book. Three points from Graceling. And romance that does not overwhelm a plot, always a good sign. Five points to Graceling. Okay, overall, I'll read it because sometimes plot summaries online are not to be trusted and the only summaries you should trust are from the readers themselves. And since you say it's good, I'll read it because I suppose I trust your taste in books. The feminist thing is kinda holding me back but I'll try it. But I'll read it after all the recommendations I've been given. If the book becomes annoying or something then it's going to my shelf of Untouched Books. More books to fill the gap for BoO :D

message 2124: by Kevin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin @ Cecerose isn't graceling based on some love magic? Or am I thinking of Kursiel's Dart?(however it's spelt )

message 2125: by [deleted user] (new)

Um love magic? So that means everything is going to be based on love or something?

message 2126: by Kevin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin Kate wrote: " Sorry about that, I literally just saw this discussion board and hopped on! "

No need to apologize(is it an s or z I need a nap), it's just everyone comes in and that is the first thing they see <_>

You should read through the comments(if you have the time to waste) and see how far the thread has come

message 2127: by Kevin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin Avalon wrote: "Um love magic? So that means everything is going to be based on love or something?"

I can't remember I get the two confused, all I remember was that I saw Graceling recommended(listed) among some books I really enjoyed and I had it listed in my "to read" shelf... took it off for some reason.

message 2128: by [deleted user] (new)

S or Z. Apologize or apologise. Realize or realise. Recognize or recognise. I've seen people spell it with a S but I always use Z and I think Z is correct because I get auto corrected to the spelling with Z.

ANYYYWAAYYYS, that's beside the point. Anyways I'm still gonna try to read Graceling, even though I see many things that make me not want to read it. But I get this feeling it's gonna end up in the shelf of Untouched Books.

It's "s" in British English, "z" in American English.

message 2130: by [deleted user] (new)

Yep I was thinking something like that ^^ British English and American English have their own differences despite being both English. I'm American so I go by the American way.

message 2131: by Matthew (new) - rated it 5 stars

Matthew Technically, they are different dialects of the same language.

message 2132: by [deleted user] (new)

Exactly ^^

message 2133: by cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy Kevin wrote: "@ Cecerose isn't graceling based on some love magic? Or am I thinking of Kursiel's Dart?(however it's spelt )"

Nope LOL it's not based on love magic.

Basically, in this kingdom, there are certain people who are born with a "grace", which means a special power of some sort. They are identified by having 2 different colored eyes.

The main character, Katsa, has the grace of killing.

That's all I'm gonna say, I don't want to spoil anybody. LOL

message 2134: by cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy I think the amazon summary explains the book better than the goodreads one. http://www.amazon.com/Graceling-Krist...

message 2135: by See (new) - rated it 5 stars

See Xiong I love Nico's mysterious, shady image that Rick create but him being gay kind of ruin this cool image. I was expecting him to like Annabeth and I understand but why Percy? Nico seems much hotter with his dark character. And I don't know why but I kind of dislike Jason, and also I dislike Piper for saying that Percy looks 'unimpressive'.
**Leo is absolutely hilarious with his Knock knock joke with the eidolons.

message 2136: by [deleted user] (new)

Then it's going to go to the older section with Gentleman Bastard and the Kingkiller Chronicles (I think it was that).
You've read Graceling, H99?

You probably are, are you twelve and want to know what is this?

message 2139: by Brenna (new)

Brenna Reed Nico being Gay did change things for me, but not in a negative way. He was always my favorite character, and this makes me love this character even more. It shows you just how misunderstood and alone he was this whole time. What RR did was brilliant. He gave kids a chance to know this character, and then it turns out he's gay. Imagine being homophobic, and your favorite character suddenly turned out to be gay. That might help homophobic kids and kids that feel the same way Nico does take a step towards acceptance: both of others and themselves.

message 2140: by [deleted user] (new)

Wait isn't The Familiars about those magical pets or something? Never actually read it but I've seen it before. Btw, how old are you Dria?

message 2141: by Parker (new) - rated it 5 stars

Parker I'm not twelve, I'm older than that, but I can't tell you how old I am for internet safety reasons! :D You could probably put a finger on it, though, if you saw all of my comments. Yes, the Familiars is about familiars. Suprise, suprise.

message 2149: by Kate (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kate I am so glad that the author decided to put this in his books. It is important to show kids that it is okay to be gay and that a character that we have all love for years is still the same person, he just happens to like people of a different gender.

message 2150: by Kevin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin I know I'm gonna get a lot of flack for this but... the persons with 5stars did you really enjoy the book or was it because of Nico's "big" reveal that this book got such a high rating?

I noticed in a lot of comments people saying they respect Rick"even more" for this and it got me wondering if all the 5's were because of this.

Me personally, I wanted to give it 3stars but then I remember how much I liked Percy Jackson series and now I used to recommend it to everyone back in the day... and I gave it 4 but the writing was all over the place, I don't know if this was because the series is about to end and Rick has to tie up loose ends but... didn't really like it.
