Kevin Sorry Cherie but I have to go grammar Nazi on you >_> cursing is when you put a spell on someone, cussing is when you use expletives <_<

message 2003: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie I only changed from using the word "cussing", which is what I originally used, to using the word "cursing" because I saw avalon using the word "cursing". In my experience I have had to explain what "cussing" is, especially to people who use English as their second language. Sometimes the word "cursing" is more widely known, so I use each when I feel it would be more understandable.

cindy Am I the only one who has never, ever had any problems with cussing? Idk it never seemed like a big deal to me. Irl I have a potty mouth awks. But to each their own I guess. This is random, but I have a few friends who are similar and make it a point to never cuss. Fortunately, they actually don't mind when I do, they just won't do it themselves.

I find it really ironic that we're talking about cussing in this thread though, bc HoO has none. Also apparently Rick's first novel/series has a lot of cussing (i've never read it though, thats just what I've heard)

message 2005: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie Both words, however, are often used as slang words referring to the usage of expletives.

cindy OH YEAH BTW if any of you have time to waste, this is a video that Rick gave on House of Hades. I found it hilarious and I about died laughing watching this. He talks about his own life and the series and idk I just really love this video.

It's really long though, 49 minutes.

Cherie Cecerose, I used to get really offended by the use of swear words. Really only because I was raised in a home where even the word "damn" was considered a bad word. Now I really don't care as long as you know where and when using that kind of language is appropriate. I find the whole concept of "bad words" kind of strange... Words to me can't be bad unless you use them to harm others.

message 2008: by cindy (last edited Jan 20, 2014 03:23PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy For me, I've always looked at swear words as just words with negative societal connotations. But it may be because I was brought with some older kids who swore a decent amount, so I just found it kind of normal I guess? Like I don't really use it that often for like malicious intent, they've just become like...amplifiers to me, if that makes sense. I guess it really depends on how you're brought up. And my parents have stopped caring about my cussing bc they've gotten used to it which I'm not sure is a good thing, but oh well.

Then again, the internet has been a really bad influence on me as well ((oops))

message 2009: by [deleted user] (new)

I only care about cussing or cursing whatever it is because my twin sisters and father cuss a LOT like every sentence is like 5 cuss words so I would get annoyed and irked by it, thus beginning my hatred of the words. It's not that I find them bad or anything it's more if the fact that my sisters and dad overuse the damn words that I've come to hate it completely and can't stand reading or hearing the words.

message 2010: by cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy Oh LOL its like the opposite for me. Instead of irritating me, it just made me used to it, so it doesn't faze me i guess

message 2011: by cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy yeah but i totally see why you don't like them!! 5 cuss words per sentence is a lot, even for me.

message 2012: by [deleted user] (new)

It's because we live in an urban place filled with people who cuss so much so my family picked up on it and cuss waaaaay too much. Me, on the other hand, feel like slapping the white off of them every time they cuss (excuse my racist comment). To me cussing is like snores. It pisses people off and I feel like strangling the person and making them shut up. Strangely though when other people besides my family cuss, I don't mind. But when it's my family I wanna throttle them.

Blogger Girl Alex Ryder( or Rider) books. I LOVE SPY BOOKS. GALLGHER GIRLS SERIES WAS ONE OF MY BEST!!!!!

message 2014: by [deleted user] (new)

Urghh spy novels ... I don't like spy fiction, mystery, horror, sci fi, dystopian (used to like it but now it's overused and every book is the same). I stick to my fantasy <3

message 2015: by [deleted user] (new)

My favorite series ever is Harry Potter. I will always love it it's so amazing, it changed my life. I have shirts that say "I solemnly swear I am up to no good" and "Weasley is my king" and one with the deathly hallows sign and I also have the entire films and books and Slytherin scarfs, hats and shirts (Go Slytherin!) and a Slytherin iPhone case and I have mugs and posters and a cloak and basically everything related to Harry Potter, I love it to death I'm so obsessed with it. My obsession is over the top, I can't help it. If anyone has not read it before you need to go read it NOW.

YOU

NEED

TO

GO

READ

IT

NOW

SHAME ON YOU. I'm reading Thousand Words for you ! That means you need to read the Harry Potter series :D Go along now. See you when you've finished the series !

message 2021: by [deleted user] (new)

And you too Paige !!

notyourfriend Nah, I tried, but it felt like I was watching the movie again so I just shrugged it off. I don't have time to read them when there are more important books out there.

message 2023: by [deleted user] (new)

That's what you get when you watch the movies first. This is why I never watch movies first. The books are always better, you're missing out. I feel like crying because you said "more important books out there." What other books are more important than Harry Potter? Even Harry Potter is better than PJO and the HoO! But you know, to each their own taste :( I need a friend who loves Harry Potter like me.
Harry Potter = life

message 2024: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm in need of fangirling with someone.

notyourfriend HP is not life!

message 2026: by [deleted user] (new)

Well it's life to me :(

notyourfriend Alrighttttttttttttttttt then.

message 2028: by cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy aaaayyyyyyy hardcore hp fan over here. Been my fave since elementary school.

Ooh Blogger, I love the Alex Rider series! And the Gallagher Girl series, though the first few books aren't as good as the last few ones. I have yet to read the last book that came out so far though.

message 2029: by [deleted user] (new)

Yay ! Potterheads unite :D

message 2030: by cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy Oh I've read Thousand Words! I liked it but I didn't love it, but I think its a crucial book to read in society today. Personally, I thought Jennifer Brown's Hate List was a lot better. Hate List made me cry buckets.

It's sad... I wasn't going to say anything... then I saw you like the films as well.

message 2032: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't really like books that relate to modern society or anything like that but I'm in the middle of Thousand Words and I have to say it's pretty good. I like the theme behind the story.

message 2033: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie I just got some ravenclaw pajamas last weekend ^_^ lol huuuuuge potterhead over here. My best friend got the deathly hallows tattooed on her and I was gonna get a small wand on the inside of my right index finger xD (so I can point with it and cast spells and stuff ;p)

Did you mean thousand page?

message 2035: by [deleted user] (new)

LOL Kevin I didn't say anything about liking the films I just said I had the films. I mean I can't have a whole HP collection and not have the films along with it. Also I think the films were pretty decent compared to some book-movie adaptations.

message 2036: by Kevin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin Avalon wrote: " . Also I think the films were pretty decent compared to some book-movie adaptations. ..."

Depending on the mood and my state of mind... I might watch last airbender, dragon ball and the lighting theif... than some HP movies

message 2037: by cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy Dude, imo the films are great compared to most book adaptations, which usually suck ass. Obviously, they hold nothing on the actual books, but in the book adaptation category, they're some of the better ones. Also omg did anyone watch Catching Fire? FINALLY another good book-movie franchise a;ldksjfak it was so perfect

message 2038: by [deleted user] (new)

Yaaaay Cherie another potterhead ! You're a Ravenclaw? I'm a Slytherin I have the Slytherin traits xD I also got Slytherin jammies they're so awesome. And when I get older I'm gonna get tattoos of HP related things. I should get a hippogriff or Pygmy puff tattooed (only HP fans will understand this). And LOL a wand tattooed on your index so you could cast spells on people xDD Hilarious idea, it's cute

cindy Kevin wrote: "Depending on the mood and my state of mind... I might watch last airbender, dragon ball and the lighting theif... than some HP movies "

Holy. You'd rather watch The Last Airbender movie over the HP movies? You must really hate the HP movies to succumb to that sort of torture

message 2040: by [deleted user] (new)

Kevin I can't believe you would rather watch the Lightning Thief movie than HP like wtf? I definitely agree with Cecerose, they were pretty great compared to some other book-movie adaptations.
And yes Cecerose! Catching Fire!! The movie was amazing and The Hunger Games movie too that's another book-movie adaptation that was amazing.

message 2041: by cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy FINALLY ANOTHER SLYTHERIN SUP BRO

wait actually i took the pottermore quiz twice and once I got slytherin the other time I got ravenclaw so i've got quite an identity crisis over here

message 2042: by cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy Omg The Lightning Thief and Sea of Monster movies were painful to watch. Even Logan Lerman's beautiful beautiful face couldn't make me like it :'( And imo The Last Airbender movie was pure shit. They couldn't even pronounce the names right...how can you not get the names right. And it was kinda annoying how there weren't that many Asian actors in it even though in the tv show many of them are clearly Asian.....

message 2043: by Kevin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin Fun fact, the same guy who butchered the first couple HP movies also directed the lighting theif movie.

The more you know!!!
J.K put her foot down on most of the butchering the did to the movie(I'm sure they would have had harry and hermione being 16 year old lovers in book one), it seems like Rick lacked the "dual spheres" to stand up to them.

I know a lot of people put off from reading the books because the movie was shitty.

message 2044: by [deleted user] (new)

Lmaoo I had a bit of an identity crisis too Cecerose. I took the quiz and they said it was a tie between Gryffindor and Slytherin so I took it again and I got Slytherin. I mean I've got the Gryffie nerve and determination but I've got the Slytherin cunning and ambition. But I also got the creativity and loyalty of a Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. I'm like who am I? But it is a Slytherin that I am.

message 2045: by cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy Wait dude Rick didn't even watch the movies? He hated the script but he already sold the rights to the dudes so he couldn't do anything about them :( They tried to fix it with Sea of Monsters but honestly no one can save that train wreck DD: at least they stuck closer to the original plot I guess

message 2046: by [deleted user] (new)

The only thing I did while watching TLT and TSoM was watching Logan Lermans face like a creepy stalker

message 2047: by [deleted user] (new)

Rick says he didn't watch the movies because he didn't want it to influence his work but that's BS he didn't want to watch it because he knows how bad it is and he doesn't want to burn his eyes with such a repulsive movie

message 2048: by [deleted user] (new)

Rick says he offered to write the script for them but they said no. It's their loss they could have had some awesome movies if they would just let Rick write the damn script.

I meant as main characters / protagonists, not antagonists. It did suck that there were no oriental asians though, that was extremely disappointing to me
