Also, this is pretty funny, I was cracking up

notyourfriend It is!! I liked the other pics too! They're funny

Demigoddaughterofathena In the Percy Jackson series, only Annabeth could make Nico soften and listen. So Annabeth thought that Nico had a crush on her. But reading the books again and again, I don't think Rick had already thought about making Nico come out as gay. Maybe it was just a twist he only thought of while starting to write the Heroes of Olympus.

message 1955: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie Okay, don't get me wrong, piper is probably my least favorite character and I didn't like what she said about Percy either.... But I'm gonna have to agree with Dria, she did only say that Percy LOOKED unimpressive, not that he was actually unimpressive. I think you guys are kiiiiinda overreacting to it.

message 1956: by [deleted user] (new)

It's not just that Cherie. That's just part of the reason why I don't like her. It's that she always compares people to Jason, she's always like "I'm not like other girls," she thinks she's special or something, she worships Jason, and she's pretty weak and annoying. AND she said Percy looked unimpressive. Overall, she's a annoying character who is weak and who has a strange hero worship for her boyfriend. But she's a daughter of Aphrodite, so I shouldn't expect too much.

message 1957: by [deleted user] (new)

I agree with you H99. I would be mad at anyone who thought like Piper. Or is she said that to anybody else. Her POVs get annoying because all I hear is "Jason doesn't like me enough" or "maybe he still has a thing with Reyna" and "Reyna is so much better than me why is Jason with me"

JASPER SHIPPERS DONT HATE ME:

Guys am I the only one who thinks their relationship was sudden? I mean all of Pipers memories of Jason were fake and Jason didn't even know who Piper was and they go on one quest together and BAM! They come back as a couple. The quest was only a few days and I mean, I guess they're a pretty good couple but I feel like their relationship is wrong. I'm not trying to say it's wrong because they barely had enough time to know each other (okay maybe I'm saying this but it's just part of it) but that Jason could have waited. He lost his memories and he doesn't know anything. If he got Piper as a girlfriend, what would happen to his past girlfriend (if he had a past girlfriend; hypothetically speaking) They jumped into a relationship with Piper having fake memories of him and Jason not knowing anything at all. Piper thinks she knows him and stuff. And poor Reyna wtf? Reyna was about to get her chance with Jason but then he loses his memories and is shipped to the other damn side of America. And Piper thinks she loves him but does she even know the true Jason? Heck, do WE even know the true Jason? I feel like his character has more depth that could be shown. He acts strong and leader type but maybe it's a mask behind some depth. Or maybe I'm hallucinating about some "depth" in hope that Jason could become a better character. Okay anyways I feel like their relationship is too sudden they barely knew each other and stuff even if they fought along side each other. Piper is in love with her memories of Jason, not the actual Jason.

message 1958: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol I never really liked Aphrodite. I know there's like two sides and Silena was definitely on number two (I loved Silena). But it's just the shallow side of her that pisses me off and makes me forget about that second side. I do think Piper is leaning on both sides, very true. But idk why but I really don't like Aphrodite. She gets in the way so love can be thrown in the story. Like seriously? Now? Love? They're in the middle of a battle. The gods/goddesses I like are Apollo and Artemis, Hestia, Hades, and Athena.

message 1959: by Parker (last edited Jan 20, 2014 08:11AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Parker You forget that they had a little time for relationship development- we just didn't get to see it. It was while they were waiting for the Argo II to be built. That's also the time when Jason became attachd to CHB. If they had only been there for a day, before their quest, and then just sailed off on their magical ship like it had just popped out of the "crayon drawing of destiny", I doubt they would have been a couple as soon or that Jason would feel conflicted about his camp loyalty. Instead of watching them, though, we were back with precious Percy. So we missed all of that.I do have to agree with you, though, on the Aphrodite thing. I like Jason, and I like Piper, and it's great that they're together, but now? I wouldn't mind if they weren't a couple. I get a little annoyed when someone tries to say Jason should be with Reyna, etc., b/c Piper doesn't deserve him or he doesn't deserve her, etc., but

message 1960: by Parker (new) - rated it 5 stars

Parker HEY! Where did the rest of my comment go?!

message 1961: by Parker (new) - rated it 5 stars

Parker BUT I don't think everyone has to be paired up, esp during a time like this. Someday I'm going to write a book where the male and female lead start out and end up disliking eachother. I mean, WHY do they always have to fall in love?!

message 1962: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol I suppose I forgot about the time they had with each other sorry. And yeah everyone is with somebody, I don't think they have the time for love now. It's what Aphrodite does, like try to get people paired up that pisses me off. Sure I'd like to see people fall in love with others but now is really not the time.

message 1963: by Parker (new) - rated it 5 stars

Parker The amazons are a little crazy but also quite refreshing and Aphrodite-less with all the pairing that's going on in Rick's books. I hope we see them again.

message 1964: by [deleted user] (new)

I REEEAAALLLYYY liked the Amazons they were so awesome. I do hope we see more of them, they were funny with their whole "no boys" thing.

message 1965: by Parker (new) - rated it 5 stars

Parker It was hilarious when one of them told Percy he would look good in a jumpsuit. XD That's not an insult to Percy- It was just funny!

message 1966: by Kevin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin Avalon wrote: " Aphrodite. She gets in the way so love can be thrown in the story ..."

*claps* You're starting to see like I do, same crap happened in Maximum Ride, only difference is that Rick is using a god as the excuse instead of Max trying to "soothe" Fang's feelings.

message 1967: by Parker (new) - rated it 5 stars

Parker You know- I think Rick realized that some people would dislike Jason and Piper when he put them into the books. He's smart enough to know that fans wouldn't like competition for Percy or the competition's slightly obsessive girlfriend. That makes me think he's setting them up for some unfortunate fate. But then I think, wouldn't that be rather anticlimactic? Half the fandom already wants them to die, so I'd be devestated but most would be out of their chairs and dancing. Not exactly heartbroken. And being the troll Rick is, I feel like he'd hurt someone the readers feel closer to...

message 1968: by Kevin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin Dria wrote: " WHY do they always have to fall in love?! ..."

They don't, I've read plenty of books where it ends without a love story.
What I dislike the most is when the guy and girl(adults) are together for a few days and they already madly in love with each other.... then someone goes away and the girl is "pineing" for the guy.. months after he left.

message 1969: by Parker (new) - rated it 5 stars

Parker Hmm. I'd maybe like to read those books. But in the majority of my middle-grade books, it ends with a love story. It's pretty annoying.

message 1970: by Kevin (last edited Jan 20, 2014 09:14AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin Dria wrote: " I get a little annoyed when someone tries to say Jason should be with Reyna, etc., b/c Piper doesn't deserve him or he doesn't deserve her, etc ..."

The characters love interest and pairings don't interest me but you have to remember that Lord of the winds was magically implanted with memories of loving a girl he never met.... while there was a real girl that he actually took time to know... now left in the friendzone because some God thought it would be fun(and paramount to human, therefore godly survival) to mess with 3 people's emotions and feelings. Two of which were made to believe that they were madly in love, when the truth is that Piper wasa skank that "stole Reyna's man".

Enjoy the discussions that will branch from this.

Wow had to edit typos

message 1971: by Parker (new) - rated it 5 stars

Parker Jason was never in love with Reyna. If he hadn't met Piper, he might have met someone else. You know, I just don't think Jeyna was meant to be.

message 1972: by Kevin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin Dria wrote: "Hmm. I'd maybe like to read those books. But in the majority of my middle-grade books, it ends with a love story. It's pretty annoying."

That is the usual ending for "kid's" books they are taught that in the end love always pervails and you will be together forever and ever and the love will always be strong and nothing will tear you apart....

Yea thats probably why, I'm really starting to dicuss like Rick, maybe I'm growing out of the childish writing and everything will be awwwwrrriigghhtt.

message 1973: by [deleted user] (new)

Dria, Reyna said to Percy that she was really close to becoming Jason's girlfriend or something but then he left. I think they had feelings for each other but it was ruined when Jason lost his memories and came back with Piper.

message 1974: by [deleted user] (new)

I do think Aphrodite is an excuse to get some love thrown in. I mean, it would be pretty great for every character to have a bf/gf but seriously that's kind of unrealistic. The only character I want to have a bf (or gf he could be bi) is Nico. I'll ship as much as I want but I don't really want it all to happen. Too much love in the story ruins the badass image. I don't want the series to become like Maximum Ride. I just wish I could read one book where two people are super close to each other and stay as friends, not lovers.

message 1975: by Kevin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin @avalon Didn't angel oe w/e her name was in maximum ride get a bf too? Wasn't she like six?

I can't think of any books atm that I read that has little romance as possible, when I come across such things as pandering romance in books I breeze past it, don't pay it much attention.

Try The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson.... its LONG like a thousand plus pages so I don't know if you would make it, also..... you might not be into that kind of thing.

Mistborn(first trilogy) doesn't end with happily rides off into sunset, love saves the day foolishness.... any other books that doesn't involve me checking my reading list might be too mature for you... they involve read things that happen everyday and not Rick's heavily watered down versions.

message 1976: by [deleted user] (new)

Wtf no Angel didn't have a boyfriend, where'd you get that from? If she did I would have dropped the book, she's like freaking six years old xD She was creepy for a six year old.
I'll try that book but like a thousand+ pages is a LOT. Why didn't the author shorten the books down? What's it about anyways? If it's my type of book then I'll try it. Also, it's not mature right? I don't read mature books I'm only 14.. You should give me a list of mature books (that are good and my type of book) and then I'll read them all when I'm 16 or something lol xD

message 1977: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie Currently reading the gentleman bastard series by Scott lynch.... Definitely not the happy/everything-works-out-perfectly kind of series. But it is amazing, funny, suspenseful, and very entertaining... A lot of mature language and violence, but I would definitely mark it down to read eventually. I cried for like 20 minutes straight at one part... My boyfriend had to come up and hug me because I was so upset. Lol

I have seen so many Percy Jackson fans saying things like Rick Riordan is a big troll who enjoys our pain and kills off a lot of characters or whatever... And I really have no clue what they are talking about.... It's all very dramatic. "Oh they fell into Tartarus!!! Rick is evil!!" .... Well they can't just ride under rainbows and fields of flowers into the sunset for 5 books >_> come on now... I've been able to ignore how unrealistic everything is and just enjoy what I love about the series.

Naw its not mature... not really, the author is not into putting graphic coupling into his books. 14 isn't a problem for the two series I suggested...

The reason it was so long was because it's good, ever wanted a book to continue? Well when you read the thousand plus pages... you want more.

Enjoy, if you need a fill for Rick until the next book is out Sanderson is a good fit... if you are into that sort of thing.

message 1979: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha, Cherie your post made me crack up xDD I like it when lots of dramatic things pop up in books. It kind of annoys me when everything works out just right because it's totally unrealistic. Everything is going to work out just right when you're basically battling Mother Earth? Yeah, right. Of course something horrible is going to happen (hello, Tartarus).
Also, the Gentleman Bastard series or what was it? Is it REEEAALLLYYY good? Like right now I'm trying I find books to read so I'm taking a lot of recommendations. Is it my type of book? I like fantasy, adventure, comedy, romance (MILD). It's so good that you cried for 20 minutes straight and got your bf to hug you (which is adorable btw)?

message 1980: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay Kevin I'll start reading it. That's another trip to the bookstore and another fat book on my shelf LOL but yeah I've always wanted to a book to be like 1,000 pages because I want more so that's good. Thanks for the recommendation.

message 1981: by cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy OMG if we we're giving out book recommendations can I recommend some too? If you haven't read it, try the Angelfall series by Susan Ee. It's AMAZING. Yes, it has angels in it but it's done in a really original way and it isn't that lovey-dovey at all. The next book in the series fiNALLY came out and that was also fantastic. One of the few good angel series out there. It has elements of horror in it too though, so if you're not into that kind of stuff, stay clear. (but honestly imo its not really scary at all). BUT ITS FANTASTIC 10/10 WOULD DEF RECOMMEND

message 1982: by cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy And if you want a good dystopian with a small amount of romance with a fantastic, suspenseful plot and amazing characters try Unwind by Neal Shusterman. Ugh. Amazing. One of my all time fave dystopian series. Not your typical dystopian novel, trust me. I've read plenty and this is on another level.

message 1983: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay correct me if I'm wrong...
Angelfall series by Susan Ee
Gentleman Bastard series by Scott Lynch
The Way of Kings series by Brandon Sanderson

Im not really into horror Cecerose because I get scared easily and blood makes me queasy and I get all vomit-y (if there's blood) but I'll try it because you're so keen on it :)
I'm more than happy to take recommendations but if anyone has a recommendation now, then hand it over because I'm gonna order those series right now.. At least I have a list of books to read before the BoO. This is going to be fun !

message 1984: by cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy Personally, it wasn't scary at all for me and I get frightened easily, but there is a bit of gore and horror but it's not over the top or anything, so I think it should be okay. If anything, it kinda (idk if this makes sense) makes the series more compelling. It's not like Stephen King level horror or anything.

message 1985: by [deleted user] (new)

And Unwind by Neal Shusterman
Wasn't he the author of The Skinjacker Trilogy? I loved that trilogy it was awesome.

message 1986: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay if it isn't extreme horror then it's worth a read :)
Thanks for the recommendations, all of you !

message 1987: by cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy Yeah I think so! I haven't read that one though, so I probably should...oops. I'm hella sad bc I barely have time to read books anymore though :((

message 1988: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha I don't even have time to read all those recommendations but I'll try to fit it in. I'm a master if sneaking books and reading in my classes so it's all good. But it's a pretty great trilogy so if you ever have the time it's worth it. The beginning is kinda dull but it gets better.

message 1989: by Kevin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin Avalon you should read the reviews and intro to see if the books are to your liking many people are using The Way of Kings as a paperweight because it was not their "cup of tea". After years of reading Sanderson i would practically read anything of his you put in front of me even it its about microwave repairs... better believe those microwaves are going to do something awesome.

Other authors/books for you to look up on before you purchase I will list some mature books in(if you can read gentlemen bastards[I read all of them that are currently out] you can read these):
Brent Week
Jim Butcher
Brandon Sanderson
Gene Wolfe???
Kim Harrison???
Trudi Canavan
Mike Carey
Enders Game
Eoin Colfer
Glen Cook
Neil Gaiman
Lev Grossman
Kevin Hearne
Julie Kagawa
Faith Hunter
Jenny Nimmo
Jay Lake's Green Universe

^Enjoy looking and seeing what you like.

message 1990: by [deleted user] (new)

Enders Game
Eoin Colfer
Neil Gaiman

Those are the only ones I know out of those. I'm gonna write down what you gave me and search them up and see if I like it. First I'm going to read the ones I've already been recommended and then I'm gonna check out the ones you recommended when I finish reading.

message 1991: by cindy (last edited Jan 20, 2014 02:22PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy Oooooh Ender's Game! I love that book, it's one of my all time favorites, I read it in like sixth grade and I'm still obsessed with it. Don't like the author though, oh well. I was so sad about the movies though, didn't like it that much. Asa Butterfield was fantastic though. The Giant's Drink animation was really cool too. That's about it for me though, didn't like much of the movie :'(

message 1992: by [deleted user] (new)

Asa Butterfield? Didn't he play the German kid in The Boy with the Striped Pajamas? I love that movie to death but the book was much better. I cried for days :(

message 1993: by cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

cindy Wait are you talking about Ender's Game of The Boy with the Striped Pajamas? But yeah he is I think, but I haven't watched The Boy with the Striped Pajamas. I generally like Asa Butterfield, and he was amazing in Hugo too. The Ender's Game movie just didn't work for me, there was too much plot for one movie and imo didn't live up to the book.

message 1994: by [deleted user] (new)

Asa Butterfield plays as the main character in Enders Game and as the German kid in The Boy with the Striped Pajamas. I've only heard of Enders Game but I never actually read it or watched it. It's all science and stuff and I really don't like science fiction. I'm more of a fantasy person.

message 1995: by Kevin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin @avalon the whole reason I started goodreads was for recommendations of books that I would like, I listed the books I read(that I could remember) and got a bunch of new ones in return.. with that being said it won't take you 10 minutes(extreme exaggeration) to post the names of the books in goodreads' search bar and see if you like what you see....

Also gentlemen bastard >_> we will see what you thing but be warned this is full adult wording... there will be things said that will shock you if you are soft hearted.

message 1996: by [deleted user] (new)

Wait adult wording as in cursing ? I hate cursing I don't even curse :( I'm having second thoughts about ordering it but it has been done. I should always look books up before ordering it. I just order and then read and if I don't like it, it stays in my shelf of Untouched Books.

message 1997: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie @avalon: The lies of Locke Lamora (first book in the gentleman bastard series) is fantasy, It's about a gang of thieves who put on pretty much the greatest acts and fool a bunch of powerful people... The characters are amazing and hilarious, but if you have a problem with cussing that would be a big obstacle because they cuss a lot... And don't expect to finish with your heart intact, like I said it's not all happy ever after, but it is fantastic. I've recommended it to so many people already :p it's probably my new favorite book.

Also I completely agree with Cecerose! The unwind series is great!! :D

message 1998: by Kevin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kevin Avalon wrote: "Wait adult wording as in cursing ? I hate cursing I don't even curse :( I'm having second thoughts about ordering it but it has been done. I should always look books up.."

That was what I was trying to get across -_- also, Way of Kings has cussing too but because its a different world it won't be the same as on earth and cussing is not even half of your problems when it comes to Locke and his gang(Locke is the main protagonist for gentlemen Bastards).

message 1999: by [deleted user] (new)

Books should have a clean version like songs do. Anyways it's already been ordered so .. I'll read it and try to ignore the cussing but if the cussing gets out of hand I'll just have to put it in the shelf of Untouched Books. Hopefully, cussing won't stop me from reading/loving the series.

message 2000: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie Yeah, maybe when you're older cursing won't seem that big of a deal (that's how I was).... So I wouldn't read it until you feel comfortable with that... It does have A LOT of adult language.

But I just recommended it for you to read in the future when you are older. Just keep it in mind for now :p when I was your age I felt the exact same way about reading books with cursing.
