There's this really nice thing called --> the library.
And if you bought it, you can return books to where you got it 99% of the time.

I'm not saying you're not allowed to have complaints about this book, that's 100% okay. But constantly bringing your complaints up and shoving it down our throats with disregard to what others have said in reply to your original complaints is to put it frankly, annoying as fuck. We get it. You guys didn't like the book and thought it was completely off the mark. I totally respect that, but you people, ironically, keep coming back here to post the same exact damn complaint multiple times (another reason the conversation is going in circles!!!! wow). And sadly, we can't satisfy you, as though we may have theories and some explanations (that also don't satisfy you), we have no definite answers-- only Rick has that.

Goddamn if we're such idiots, why are you bothering talking to us?????? This is the second time that you've called the people here idiots, so maybe kindly use more civil terms or gtfo. Thanks bae

The reason we're going into circles is because new commenters keep appearing and complaining about issues that have already been addressed previously, causing the people already on this thread to revert back to that issue. If people read all the posts before coming here, that wouldn't be a problem, except you can't ask everyone to read 2200+ posts, so obviously they're going to be addressed again, even if it pisses you off. Sorry.

That is what this 45 page discussion was or is about people's opinion, how you are behaving is like your opinion is all that matters, the topic was about Nico my opinion is thwt Rick went around it the wrong way, you are reeling off on the wrong person go to one of those that said they will not read anything Rick Riordan because of his pandering.

new peolpe will ofcourse come and post their opinion after which i will post mine.Guess what it wont change.but people who have already made multiple posts should atleast go forward.lets do that, you and me.you say nico being gay was one a good way to explain his angst.i say his inability to connect to people would have been better.some people do face social awkardness while trying to make friends or even communicate, tou know?
next you can post maybe ...i dont know how his inability stems from his gayness(no arguments just discussions)and so on

Well this is funny.

You say to go forward, which is totally great and fab, yet other people are getting pissed because they've been feeling ignored because their complaints have already been addressed in past pages.

How do you satisfy both parties?

I don't see Nico being gay as a way to explain his angst. Sure, that may be part of it, but it's not what it was solely for. It goes much deeper than that. I think his angst and his self-loathing would be a result from a multitude of things, such as Bianca's death, Hades, (and I agree with you on this part) his social awkwardness, and his sexuality. I feel like you can't solely categorize his angst to only one sole factor you know? It's much more nuanced than that.

message 1862: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie @Kevin, In that past comment I was not addressing you and you responded to my comment. I responded to tell you that I wouldn't respond to that comment as I was not obligated to because I had not addressed you. I didn't simply ignore it and pretend I didn't even read it. When you address me and I respond with a thought out response I find it annoying as shit for you to ignore it as if you didn't address me with a question. It is a WASTE of my time.

Funnily enough you complain about all of us saying the same things over and over again, but you do the same damn thing. And then you don't even make an effort to respond to the counter opinion. Why are you even here? We all get it, you didn't think it worked with the story, but why stay in this discussion if you have no intent on actually discussing it or responding to opposing viewpoints?

Good that we are finally getting to this point.a number of discussions back there were stupid and irrelevant (they were).there are 2 prevalent view points-in retrospect it was perfect and from all angles it sucked.these sort of ground rules should have been laid down a long time ago.if someone still comments that they hated it because of their personal views, bible or inappropriate or whatever either ignore it or convince the comment or to find some logical merit behind his/her discussion

I thought I was discussing it... and maybe I'm a hypocrite but as I said in a past comment when I post here it just flows out of me and yes most times I repeat parts that were mentioned before... yet some people react like its the first time they are seeing it... so I'm probably doing something right and getting my point across.

Let's all admit that everyone in this thread is trying to convince the other person to their way of thinking, I did nt start off to do so but looking back that is what I see everyone(including me) doing.

I've seen eariler on some people say they didn't read the book but they "jumped" others when they said they didn't like it without knowing why the person disliked it, just because the book is pro -gay a lot of people came out of the woodworks.

Jamie I like the fact that he's gay, it shows people that YES there are books that have gay characters for kids.

HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF MOST OF THE WORLD WERE HOMOSEXUAL AND THEY WERE BEING HORRIBLE TO STRAIGHT PEOPLE, HUH? What did they ever do that was so horrible to you? at least 1 out of 10 people are gay.
what if 1 out of ten people came up to you and beat you up cause' your straight, or because your homophobic? Cause in a lot of schools, if you're gay,you get beat up EVERYDAY. how would that feel to you, huh? just a question.

message 1874: by [deleted user] (new)

It's really sad how homosexual people are treated. Seriously, in my school basically 8 out of 10 people are gay/bi. I'm like one of the only straight people there so I'm the one who feels weird. But nothing is wrong with them. It's who they are. They're really great people. It's not their fault they have feelings for the same sex. No one can help their feelings, it just comes. It's called love guys. Love is what makes them feel this way. If I were to blame anyone, I would blame love ..

message 1875: by [deleted user] (new)

No seriously mostly everyone in my school is bisexual and there are like a handful of gays and several straight people. To be honest, I think it's just a trend thing. It started like 3 years ago. There was this really popular girl who came out as gay and basically everyone around her "turned" bi/gay because she did it first. She so damn influential, she turned the whole damn school bisexual because she was gay. I think they just do it for popularity and respect. There was a girl who said she was lesbian and this other straight girl was like "really?" and two days later the straight girl "came out" as bisexual. Everyone just suddenly became bi/gay because the majority were bi/gay. But this is just in my school because my school is full of wannabes.

message 1876: by [deleted user] (new)

But at like at first they just became bi/gay to blend in with the majority of people but then they seriously became bi/gay after forcing themselves to date the same sex. Weird.

message 1877: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, pretty much, but there's a handful who actually turned bi/gay after pretending for some time.

message 1878: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow, Avalon, how do you stand it?

message 1879: by [deleted user] (new)

Tbh, I don't like all these wannabe gay people, they're only being gay to blend in and I find that stupid, they should just be who they are not force themselves to be something they're not. But I have friends who are actually gay/bi and never pretended in the first place, so I'm friends with them. I keep my distance from the wannabes. It's not that I don't like gay/bi people, I just don't like how they force themselves. I hate watching people force themselves to take actions that I know deep down they don't want to do, but just do it to look "cool." Kinda pathetic.

message 1880: by [deleted user] (new)

Maybe, maybe not. But if some people have been pretending to go out with the same sex for some time, maybe they'll end up actually developing real feelings for that person.

message 1881: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol yeah I forgot to mention that. I agree, maybe a girl will end up liking another girl but that doesn't mean that that she'll end up liking all girl or girls bodies or something.

message 1882: by [deleted user] (new)

This is also how I end up imagining Nico's feelings for Percy. I feel like Nico doesn't like all boys, it's just Percy. He's only developed the same sex feelings for Percy.

You do know they have gays who beat up upon straight people right?
Straights may be in the majority but both straights and gays get targeted by each other.

This explains a lot, I know see why people make petitions to try and force their authors to include gay characters.

message 1886: by Cherie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cherie Avalon, I have many girlfriends who will make out with other girls when at parties after drinking, but they are neither gay nor bisexual. They don't actually have any kind of attraction to the person, but the alcohol kind of tricks their mind. Same for gays that drink heavily to try to be straight, it's actually very common. When you sober up you still have no attraction, be it sexual or romantic, for that person. Maybe this has something to do with why you think many people at your school are gay or bisexual. It could also be that they are pretending, but romantic attraction is very hard to fake and sexual attraction isn't really something you control, it comes naturally.. Maybe it's possible that you are just exaggerating (most likely case). Sorry, but I refuse to believe that it's nearly that high of a gay to straight ratio.

message 1887: by [deleted user] (new)

You don't have to believe it, I'm not forcing you. No one believes anything I say anyway. But I'll just say that there are so many different places on earth with so many different people and I live in a place where there just happens to be many gay/bi people. Maybe you live in a place where there are barely any gay/bi people, so it's not believable to you. Also let me repeat that it's just in my school. It's not the city I live in or anything, it's just my school. So it is possible. And I'll also say that where I come from people beg for fame and to be so popular and be noticed, they would basically do anything for it. If pretending to be gay/bi is the way to get fame, then they'll do it. They are like wolves. There's an alpha wolf and everyone trails behind the alpha. So if the alpha is gay/bi, then they'll be gay/bi. Humans are capable of faking attraction. You're underestimating the people in my school. They are unpredictable and a bit on the loopy side. It's true that some of them are really gay/bi, they don't pretend. I'm just saying that a majority of them pretended because the "alpha" came out. Also they have no romantic attraction to each other. They go out with each other because they want a bf/gf. Before everyone suddenly became gay/bi, people in my school used to go out with whoever was available. They didn't care as long as they had a partner. Now that the alpha came out, it's easier for them to get a partner because now the same sex is also available. There's no romantic attraction. They kiss whoever they want when they feel like it. So it's easy to fake dating if there is no romantic attraction. I know it's not believable to anybody. But it's just because they are underestimated. It's hard for me, sometimes I'll make a friend and then two days later she'll randomly ask me out and that's when I know she must be gay/bi. And when I ask why they asked me out, they'll just say "for fun" or "because I feel like it" or "people will notice us". This has happened to me so many times.
Sorry for the long post...
