NICO… YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT O.o

LOOL IKR oops I didn't see your post when I wrote ^ that I awkwardly said the exact same thing you said haha

I can tell this is going to be big in the news

So you don't "hate gay people", but you consider labeling someone as gay to be "ruining" them? Please, explain to me how exactly that works? And let's be clear. Nico didn't just become gay in this book. He's been gay/bi the entire time you've known him, and yet you STILL liked him.

That's just a stereotype, and horribly offensive.
And have you seen this guy in action?

And this tough lady?

Steve Jinks. Sam Adama. Irene Adler (BBC). Danny Mahealani. Tara Maclay.
The thing is, there aren't "gay people" and "straight people". There's only PEOPLE. Some happen to be gay, and some straight, but they're people before they're anything else.

Wow....I read your review on the House of Hades and Nico's being gay didn't seem to affect your wanting to read this book then, why now??? Not reading this last book in protest to homophobia? Let's just say...... that will never happen. You will cave and read it. Uncle Rick's powers of writing are too strong for you and anyone to overcome.

Amen to that! I...will be reading!

No he wasn't read the comments someone posted that Rick admitted he just threw this in there and didn't plan for it, when i said in my review that this felt "force" it was true. He just used Nico's loneliness as an excuse and as i said the "gay" everyone is saying can just be Nico looking up to Percy as an older brother but it's Rick's book he can do whatever he wants. If he wants to turn Festus into a real Dragon and have Octavian have sex with it, it's his world he can build it as he pleases.
Also to anyone who thinks Percy x Nico will be someone... i don't think Rick would make such a blunder, remember Percy gave up Godhood for Annabeth.... if they broke up it would defeat the whole purpose... It would have been best if Percy just accepted Godhood

Riordan said that he didn't plan on Nico being gay initially, which is when he was writing The Titan's Curse. However, I do believe that Riordan had been forming plans since the Son of Neptune - possibly earlier. I believe there were several comments earlier on this thread where someone pointed out a bunch of hints from The Last Olympian.

The fact that Rick made Nico gay gives Nico a higher chance to die than any other character. I'm so sad, I fell in love with his character right when we met him in the Titans Curse :( After all that time, I don't want Rick to just kill him off.

Rick was really brave for putting this in the book. He knew he was going to get a lot of hate, but he did it anyway. I respect him for that. He's an amazing writer, and some people are just hating.

Why would it give him a higher chance to die than any of the other characters because he's gay? I'm being serious... I honestly don't understand where you're coming from. Explain :)

@Janna It gives him a higher chance to die because most authors usually kill off their gay characters because they don't know what to do with them. Nico is obviously going to be turned down by Percy and I don't think Rick is suddenly going to make another character gay or bring a new character into the book (when it's the last one) just so that Nico can have a boyfriend. I feel like if Nico can't have anyone, and he's going to be left heartbroken, then Rick is just going to kill him off. That's why I think Nico has a higher chance of dying. Of course this is just what I think. You don't have to think the same.

Just because Nico "had" a crush on Percy does not mean he is suddenly straight. If he had a crush on Percy at all before, he is not straight-- just because it is in the past, does not mean it invalidates his past feelings. I don't have a crush on anyone at the moment, but I've had crushes on guys before. If we went by your logic, because of my current crushless state, it would mean I am asexual or aromantic, which is definitely not true in my case. We don't know if Nico is gay or bisexual but he is definitely not straight, Rick Riordan even confirmed it, and it is even implied in the book that he is not completely over his crush on Percy.

Andromeda, listen. Remember when Jason said something like he didn't think that Nico moved on from liking Percy. He still thought that Nico likes Percy. Remember when Nico got a pained look on his face when he saw Percy with Annabeth? That means he still likes Percy. Therefore, he is gay because Percy is a MALE. He still likes Percy. He didn't move on. He's just telling himself that because that's what people do when they want to move on but they can't. Nico can't move on. He likes Percy. He's gay. End of story.

that's true, it could be that he also is bisexual

Nico said "I had a crush on Percy" he said "had" that means is in past tense not present tense and th..."
Also, you can't turn off your sexuality like an on-off switch. Just because he said he was over his crush on Percy does not mean he never had a crush on Percy. If he had a crush on Percy EVEN ONCE he is not straight. Straight = You only like someone from the opposite gender. ONLY. Otherwise you are bisexual/gay/pan, etc. He may be bisexual, as it was never explicitly stated what his exact sexuality was, but he is not straight. Did you read what I wrote at all earlier?

Your Logic is true
Some people think he's bisexual because he blushes around girls, but I think he's more on the gay side.

that's true, it could be that he also is bisexual, I had and i acept that thank you for the explanation =)

that's true, it could be that he also is bisexual

I know

I don't mind that he is gay i love him for what he is

That's true

(: YAY! I never meant that you didn't LOL I was just putting the idea out there. It wasn't really aimed at anyone.

Also to the people who keep bringing back old arguments, please read the previous pages because it gets really old when people keep complaining about stuff already discussed and people explaining the same stuff over and over again. Ack.
