I was completely enraptured from the very first line of the book, and I devoured it as quickly as I could. Not only does Rosamund Hodge have beautiful writing (seriously, I'm jealous), but she created a world that was completely unique. An inspired retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I highly recommend it. I purchased Crimson Bound quickly after because I want to read it so badly.

Contemporary Romance isn't usually something I'm in to, but ever since I watched Sons of Anarchy I've become more interested in bike riding bad boys. Boy does Ruin & Rule deliver! It quickly draws you in, because you are just as confused as the heroine about what's going on. Then there's Kill who she some how remembers, but is sure they've never met! Great premise, and one hell of a follow through. Again, I'd highly recommend this if you're into romance, tortured/alpha hero, and a little bit of mystery.

Review:
This was a re-read for me, because I'm trying to get through the rest of the books since they're on hand TBR, but it had been awhile. It was like a whole new book to me. There were things I vaguely recalled, and everything else felt like reading it for the first time. Deuce is one of the stronger characters I've read about, I don't think I'd be able to survive in most of the situations she's in. I couldn't believe I had gotten to the end of the book (I read the e-book and there was a snippet for Outpost so I was expecting more pages) and there wasn't more happening! Great cliffhanger. Definitely a good read if you're interested in YA Dystopian novels. Some how this book got lost when I was keeping track of my reads. The other thing that I think enhanced this reading for me was that I read the prequel short story. It is very short, but I think it added to the story in a way I wasn't expecting.

I loved Throne of Glass, one of my favourite series. Sarah J Maas is coming to Oz in November and I am hoping to meet her and get an autographed book.

I'm excited to get to Crimson Bound! I'm hoping it'll fit for a shelf coming up. I found a book that fits for the free space so I won't be reading Throne of Glass even though it's high up on my list. Have you read A Court of Thorns and Roses? I read that one very recently and it was sooo good! Makes me very anxious to get into Throne of Glass.

Lisa, I read on my Kindle while doing my hair in the morning too. (and I didn't feel like I was being questioned on the decision to replace Hannah. I was just expressing my guilt. I have issues with guilt)So the 40 minutes I spent in the car with it reading to me got me through more than I thought and hit the 50% mark. I might actually finish my Happy Bday book before the next shelf call.

OK this is one of those books I want to give 1 star and 5 stars to at once. 5 because I love this series and this one did not disappoint. But 1 because of the cliff hanger ending and because now I have to wait who knows how long for the next book. I'm already dying a slow death by withdrawal waiting for the next Dresden book by Jim Butcher. Also the author appears to have started a story line that is one of my least favorites and I won't say what that is because I don't want to give spoilers. But it's something I will usually avoid a book for if I see it in the description.

Not sure what I am going to read yet. All the books I have been eyeballing are either standalones or 1st books.

This review is spoiler free.
It was a satisfying conclusion to the series, though I will miss the characters and the incredible world that Ms Armentrout has created.
What I liked:
The series involves a love triangle. I don’t mind them as long as they are done well and Ms Armentrout certainly did. Layla decided which guy she wanted early on and didn’t spend the entire book undecided or switching between the two. I loved that Layla realised that one of the guys would end up hurt and that it was selfish to drag things out. And for once, the other guy did get angry and hurt, which I think is much more realistic. I loved the tender moments between Layla and her man, and her explanation as to why he was chosen.
There was more of a focus on the romance than in the previous books, with plenty of sweet, tender moments, which I did not mind. I enjoyed seeing the characters blossom and show their happiness.
What I didn’t like:
I thought that the plot was predictable with Layla being the only person who can save the world from the evil Lilan, though there were a few surprising twists.
In summary, I loved this book but not as much as the first two. All the loose ends were wrapped up to a satisfying conclusion, though the plot could have been more intriguing. I loved the characters, the familiars and their incredible paranormal world.

I love Jaye Wells. I don't know what it is. And, I love this series.
Kate, is a detective in a police squad investigating dirty magic users and those selling dirty potions. Kate comes from a background where she was once on the wrong side of the law and part of a coven who produced and sold the dirty potions. The root of the story revolves around Kate trying to make up for her early life mistakes while she tries to keep her brother on the right track. She keeps adding members to her patchwork family while rounding up the baddies from her past.
In this book, Kate learns a hard lesson and must come to terms that everything is not black and white, good or bad.. and magic is not clean or dirty. She learns that something she blamed herself for wasn't her fault and she has to make a hard decision that gives someone from her past power over her future. She finally - FINALLY - gives herself permission to move on and start living her life a little for herself.
You can't help but root for Kate, root for the bad guy and root for the good guy. There is a lot of story left to unfold and I foresee a really good love triangle on the horizon (normally I hate those but I look forward to this one).
Can't wait for another one!

. It's not a paranormal but I started the audiobook today and I tend to get through audios faster because I can listen while doing other things. I'll just review whichever one I finish first.

Amazing! This is my favourite book in the series (and I loved the first two).
Kyon finally has Kricket all to himself and is the only person who can keep her safe. His fierce loyalty to Kricket is in stark contrast to the betrayal and hurt that she has experienced by others. He is determined, ruthless yet protective, obsessive and totally in love with Kricket.
‘You belong to me. I won’t let you go – not ever.’ He’s in control, and he knows it. He needs me to know it too.
‘Maybe if you asked me to stay and if you were nice, I’d want to be here.’
‘I’m never nice.’
‘You make me want to beat the life out of you one moment, and in the next I ache to drag you to the beach and make love to you in the sand.’

Kricket is a smart, strong and compelling heroine – she lives by her own rules and will not be owned or controlled by anyone. She fears Kyon yet finds him fascinating, torn between the need to escape from him and the need to stay so that he can keep her safe. She uses her flashes of the future, her understanding of her enemies as well as all available resources to outsmart those that seek to kill her.
And what a conclusion! It was unpredictable and emotional yet satisfying.
The brilliant writing, incredible world building and skilful plot come together with the deep, engaging characters to create an emotional, adrenaline-rich ride.

This was the final book in the Blood Destiny Series. This book finds Mack leading the shifters, mages and fae in an epic battle to defeat Endor. Mack finally knows who and what she is and what she is capable of. In these last chapters, she is forced to accept a role she really doesn't want and unbearable responsibilities. She must prioritize what she knows is right and what she wants.
I liked this series. It felt a bit familiar but I was pulled in right away. I especially liked the turn of events with her unfolding powers and the vampires (no spoilers here!). There were parts of this book that I thought were pretty funny and clever - again, the vampire and a penguin suit. I also found myself so frustrated with some of Mack's decisions. I'm disappointed that this was the last book. There were so many interesting characters in these books that I could easily been interested in may more tales.
Hi all. Had a nice long weekend of reading. Ready for the next shelf! Hope it is something that I can included Magic Shifts. Can't wait to read it (and I might not!).
Well, all our social plans for the weekend were scrapped when both kids went down with the flu. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they haven't passed it onto me! On the bright side, I did get plenty of housework and reading done.
I didn't get as much reading done as I wanted because I had my mom's memorial on Saturday, but I am not working right now so I'll have plenty of time to continue Bloody Mess and the Catch-up. I'm glad everyone had a good time, and got a chance to read. :)
@ Lisa, you can read the first 3 of Corrigan, which is the Blood Destiny series from Corrigan's POV. Usually I would think that is pure bullsh*t but in this case I couldn't get enough. And you do get new stuff that isn't in the BD series.@ Cheryl, my commiserations and I hope you don't come down with the flu!
@ Sarah, WTF, your mom's memorial .... are you OK? Very sorry to hear that. All my sympathies!!!
Yes. She had end stage liver disease so we knew she didn't have much time. They estimated about 1 to 3 years last April. She passed July 20th. The memorial was a wonderful way to celebrate her and find some peace. Reading has been a great escape and has helped me pass the time.
It doesn't let me edit from my phone. Thank you for the condolences!!
I actually think it is a blessing when they have the time to organize things how they'd like them and to share time with family & friends. One of my BFF's passed away 2 yrs ago, and she lasted nearly 2 yrs instead of the 6mths they gave her. Mind you it is still hard to say goodbye.

So sorry to hear about your mother Sarah. Not easy to go through even when expected. Cheryl, sick kids-not fun.
My weekend was crazy busy. Went out dancing with a friend Friday night. Took a 12 mile bicycle ride Saturday morning. Baked a cake, cookies and made some appetizers Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Helped my mother set up and clean up a bridal shower for my soon to be sister-in-law. She is from Brazil and all her family is there so that's why me, my mother and my other SIL hosted. Then ran home to speed clean my kitchen so my 2 Aunts could come and check out my new cabinets. (one wants to redo hers).

It was a great weekend but I am so tired. Was supposed to go kayaking but the same friend that I hiked with on Thursday, danced with on Friday and biked with on Saturday-we made a mutual decision that we were both too pooped to kayaking today as planned. We're both closing in on 50 and need a little recovery time. I did get a lot of audiobook time in and should finish my series-catch-up book tomorrow.
Oh and I'm glad the team has gotten a little chattier.
Sarah, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I'm sending you positive thoughts, prayers and good vibes. I can't imagine how hard it is. I will give mine an extra hug this weekend. You have to appreciate every day. Hope you have lots of people around to keep your spirits up.
Sandra, I'm going to look for those Corrigan Pov books. If I could have changed something about this series it would have been a better developed romance. I liked that it wasn't the main theme but I liked them together. Thanks for the clue in. I really enjoyed this series.
She's still writing them Lisa, so they'll be 5 in all just like BD

Series Catch-up

So I always think I like when an author is not afraid to sacrifice a main character and then I get mad when they do, go figure. This character may actually be back but now he won't be very likable. Anyway, it was pretty good but dragged in some spots. Love Ruth and Rosa the pearl necklace, sweater wearing duck.
We are going great ladies. We have 3 out of our 5 stamps. Pretty good considering we had to get a replacement, Sarah, who did a great job catching us up.
Demons this week. Kind of disappointed. Not sure I am in the mood for any of my demon shelved books. But I will find something. I'm really in ghost story type mood.

Anyone have a favorite on this shelf? Normally I read something I have getting dusty in my collection but I don't have one! I have read the major authors on this list. Wish I could re read succubus Blues or red headed step child. Or any of the demonica series or Charlie Daniels. I wouldn't have guessed I read so many demon books.
