R12: Team #13 ~ Baker's Dozen
I love the Dresden Files books and they are all probably on the demons shelf. Also the Darynda Jones Charlie Davidson books. I'm all caught on both of those. The Felix Castor series by Mike Carey is good too.
Cheryl, I hope you like it. It is one of my favorite series and I think one of the best endings of a series.
Thanks for the update Sarah.I'm almost done with my demons book. My friend is coming over for the first time since I had an addition put on my house and a bunch of work done. Which means she's going to want a tour and that I had have been in cleaning and organizing mode. Very conducive for audiobook listening.
Shelf #5: DemonsBook: Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead
Read: 8.16.15
Pages: 343
Rating: ★★★★
Review:
Georgina Kincaid is a succubus with morals. She chooses to only feed on low-life men consequently missing out on a relationship with a decent guy. With her gorgeous looks and seductive charm, she doesn’t have trouble attracting guys; she has trouble keeping them at arm’s length even if her heart is telling her not to.
What a hilarious, entertaining read! This book has it all - humour, mystery, love with great characters and a well-thought out plot. The witty banter between both Georgina and Seth had me laughing so much that it woke my husband up several times (much to his annoyance). And the secondary characters were delightful, adding humour and depth to the story. I will definitely be continuing this series.
Hi ladies, finally decided on
. I was going to read
but the library did not have a copy available. Cheryl, glad you liked Georgina. I just love her!
Mary, I'll go halves with Sandra for the airfare and you can clean my house as well! LOL.Lisa, I hope that you enjoy Chase the Dark. I love the author's writing and the characters.
It's ok, we understand about your mother passing. You also joined the team late. I just appreciate that you are communicating. Life gets in the way of reading sometimes. I had intended to finish my demons book last night. But I squandered my evening watching silly animal videos and surfing the internet.
Did you know that there are full audiobooks on Youtube?
Animal videos and the internet can definitely make the time disappear! I didn't know there were full audiobooks on Youtube. I wonder how that works for the publishers/authors. Although, it seems similar to a public library albeit a bit more tricky to use.
New Shelf: Dark and Stormy: Book with dark or stormy cover, or dark and/or stormy in the title.I think I will read this:
But since it's long, I might also start an audio that works for this as well.
I will post my demons review tonight or tomorrow. I'm hoping we can maybe get another stamp or two this week. Sorry if this sounds naggy. I know Sarah came into this late and then had a personal tragedy.
For the Dark and Stormy shelf, I am going to read
by Dannika Dark. It is the latest in her 'Seven' series and just came out this week. So perfect timing for me. Love this series!
Wow we have all been very quiet. How is everyone's reading going? I got sidetracked and busy and therefore behind on my demons book but I only have about an hour left of the audio. I haven't even started my dark & stormy book yet.
Hi ladies, my demon book is done. I will write my review when I can get to my laptop. I hate using this app. . For my dark and stormy read it will be.......wait for it............
I think I will look up how to make a dark and stormy drink and read on the deck! I took Monday off as a mental health day / clean my house before im featured on Hoarders TV Show so I hope to have it done early.
I am also finished with my demon book. But I have a long drive today and won't get to the review until tonight or tomorrow. I also might change my Dark & Stormy book to one that just happened to come in from the library. It's actually a reread for me but I read it so long ago that I can't remember much of it and I need to reread before I move on to the rest of the series. My library finally got these in ebook.

Loving this series so far. I don't normally like when books time jump. But the little jaunts back to Win and Poppy's courtship and early marriage worked in this one. The "it's all my fault" back and forth got annoying sometimes. Although I did think Poppy forgave Win a little to easy for what he did. I mean he made a deal with the devil after all. But I still really enjoyed the book.

This was a fun read!
Human beings nearly ravaged the earth and their own existence with poor choices and Daemons felt it necessary to make their presence known before all was lost. Those that remain try to go on with life including the daemons and Haemons (half human half daeman).
Piper is our heroin. Her father is the Head Consul and his job is to keep the humans safe from the Daemons and maybe keep the Daemons safe from each other. It appears that he used his influence to get Piper training as a consul despite Piper apparently lacking magic. She struggles to prove herself and to gain the acceptance of her father.
The action starts pretty early on in the book. Something goes down at the Consulate and Piper's father is to blame. Piper finds herself on the run and in the company of two dreamy Daemons. They are caught in quite a caper. Piper has to prove herself as a legit consul, prove herself and father innocent, figure out what happened to put her in this spot and keep her sh*t together in front of the dream team.
I like that Piper isn’t perfect. She struggles with real problems. The action fight scenes are great and the creatures are imaginative. I was left wanting a little more in the romance dept. but hey, Piper was busy! It is a unique storyline and terrific world building.
I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
Loved it Cheryl - thanks!Mary, I'm diggin' Storm Front! do you have a particular actor that you think Harry might look like? So far, I'm not willing to be his love slave but I might let him look down my blouse! (that is from the first book...not a habit of mine.. that I would admit)
Very luscious picture - I remember him from Grey's Anatomy. I haven't read the Harry Dresden books yet (I know, shame on me), but I would watch the show just to check out Jeffrey Dean Morgan!Glad you loved Chase the Dark, Lisa. The series just gets better and better.
Oh, I can see that. Was there a tv show? I checked some images on bing and whoever that guy was didn't pull it off. So far the book it says he has a pointy chin and hawkish nose. I am trying to get Jeff Goldbloom out if my head! I have an old copy of the book without the guy on the front.
There was a TV show that ran very briefly on the SYFY network. I have never watched it because I heard it was bad and since I didn't last I don't want to ruin the images I have in my mind. On the Facebook fan page, Jared Padalecki has been suggested many times as a good choice to play Harry.
But I kind of hope they no one tries to turn it into another TV show or movie again. I hated what was done with True Blood.
Wondering if I should send a message to Sarah and ask her to check in and give an update. I know her mother recently passed.
The quite like the pic I posted which wasn't the grey bearded ones that make him look really old. If I was him I'd shave it off & take off 15 or 20 yrs.
Hi ladies sorry for the disappearance. I finished my bloody mess read and catch up. I will do an official post in the morning with a book choice for the dark and stormy shelf.
Shelf 2: Bloody Mess Grave Matters by Lauren M. RoyPages: 304
Read: 8.23.15
Rating: ★★★★
Review:
This is the second book in the series, and while I rated it the same as the first book I think I liked it more. Grave Matters was a little slow to start and it jumped around a little too much for my liking, but it all converged into one cohesive piece. While Val seems to be the main character, I like Elly and Cavale better. Overall, not a bad second book in a series, usually those don't do as well as the first book.
Shelf 4: Series Catch-up Shadow Heir by Richelle Mead
Pages: 390
Read: 8.25.15
Rating: ★★★
Review:
I've had this on my TBR for so long, and I'm glad to have it finished. I was disappointed in the direction Mead took it. I loved the first two books, and I loved her Vampire Academy books, but this just fell short. While there is a resolution it just didn't do enough for me. The ending is too loose, and there wasn't enough excitement. Overall, I expected more and I'm sad to see that it just didn't live up to my expectations for the story.

Review:
This is the sixth book in the ‘Seven’ series, though each book can be read as a standalone.
After years of living abroad, Maizy returns home to the only family she's ever known--a pack of wolves. Maizy needs to know if she still belongs or if being a human among shifters makes her an outsider now. Her former watchdog, Denver, no longer sees Maizy as the child he once protected – she’s a captivating, stunning and intelligent woman now.
This is a beautifully written, heart-warming story which deals primarily with Maizy and Denver’s relationship when it transforms from one between an adult and a child to one between two adults.
There is a time gap of several years from the last book and it is interesting to see how the characters lives have changed over the years. Maizy now sees her family through adult’s eyes and relationships that she once perceived as perfect, she now sees more realistically as she learns of their problems and secrets.
I love how Ms Dark cleverly weaves events from Maizy’s childhood into the plot and how seemingly insignificant details become vital clues to solving old mysteries and resolving current predicaments.
As I have read through this series, I feel that I have come to know the characters personally and it is like catching up with beloved friends when a read a new release. I hate that there are only a few books left in this series, but I console myself that I can always re-read them and relive the stories over again.
Thanks Sarah. I'm going to request our Bloody Mess stamp right now. I'm almost finished with my Dark & Stormy book.
Just finished Stormfront and really liked it! I will write my review on wed. A five star review from Cheryl. I'll have to check that one out too. At least the weather is changing and I have more time to read. I can't wait for fall.
James Marsden reads the audiobooks but I can't picture him as playing Harry Dresden. At least not looks-wise. I stayed up late reading and only have just a tiny bit of my Dark & Stormy book left.

This was actually a reread for me but I read it like 5 years ago and didn't remember much. So much time had gone by that I couldn't read the rest of the series without rereading this one. Was very happy when my library finally got them in e-book. I really enjoyed the book again. I like the premise of a barrier that separates earth from another dimension where the people on that other dimension keep trying to cross the border. But they are toxic to Earth's environment. The hero dying and coming to life again repeatedly is a little odd but I got over that. Couple of good sex scenes to spice it up but not so much to take over the whole book. I already have the next couple of books on hold at the library.
New Shelf! Urban FantasyAn actual shelf this time. I have a ton of these. I will look tonight and see what I feel like reading/listening too and update later. Maybe I will get lucky and book 2 of the Paladins of Darkness will come through from the library.
