Jennifer H Week 15 ~ Coupledom

Deceiving Lies (Forgiving Lies, #2) by Molly McAdams
Deceiving Lies by Molly McAdams
Finished: 10/27/15
Rating: ♥♥♥♥

Deceiving Lies is the second book in Molly McAdam’s Forgiving Lies Series. This novel follows up the cliffhanger ending and continues Rachel and Kash’s story. Like the first story, Forgiving Lies, its sequel is full of suspense, romance, and drama.

I swooned over Rachel and Kash in Forgiving Lies and really enjoy novels with thrilling turns that keep me guessing. This second installment lived up to the expectations set by the first and I was immersed in the story until the perfect ending. Molly has a reputation of leaving no one’s heart unscathed by her books. In Deceiving Lies, she delivered something fresh and new through her use of action/suspense but wove in a few “Molly McAdams’ trademark twists” to create a novel that is enjoyable from start to finish. Fans of her novels are going to fall in love with Kash and Rachel all over again.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 1119 comments Sorry I haven't been around but my father in law has been in the hospital and we haven't had any luck with his health. I'll try and post my books tomorrow when I get a chance to sit and collect my thoughts. I believe I finished a few or all of the books, I think. I'll double check once. Reading has been a god sent. Since I'm on the night shift. I'm hoping that we can get some answers soon because its just driving us all crazy with this waiting.

This was a cute story. In the beginning I thought this was going to be some type of sappy YA book but it wasn't. It Laurel was adopted and home schooled when her parents decided it was time for her to go an actual school. That's when things changed for her and she found out who she really was and the reason why she was given up. This was a good start to this series and I'm curious as to what will happen in the future books.

Review:
I loved this story. It was hot. Both characters were kiss-ass. Sylvie and Creed knew each other before they were put together to investigate a trader but the only problem is that there past keeps getting in the way. Well a lot does happen between them and things do get intense but it was a well written story and can't wait to see who is the next one going to be about. K.A. is becoming a favorite author this year and I'm enjoying her writing.

This was an exciting one. Sookie really had a lot on her plate this time especially with trying to figure out what is right and wrong when it comes to vampire law or rules and wow finding out about Bill's past. That was not something that I would have seen coming so soon in the series but it was good to see because that usually isn't part of the story or not told until the end somewhere. I'm really enjoying this series. Can't wait to see what going to happen next now that Sookie knows some interesting info.

Magic Slays (Kate Daniels, #5) by Ilona Andrews
Title: Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews
Rating: ★★★★½
Read: 10/29/15
Review:

Magic Slays is an exciting addition to the Kate Daniels series. I have to admit that I did not enjoy this book as much as I have the last couple of ones. The only way I know to describe it is that it is darker. There is plenty of action but more than anything, it is very informative.

We learn quite a lot about the hardships different characters had to endure while growing up thus causing them to be the way they are. Kate's world is tipped off its axis when she learns that everything she thought was real as a child was actually a lie.

I still highly recommend the book and will continue reading the series.

Jennifer H Week 16 ~ Alpha-Male

Rule (Marked Men, #1) by Jay Crownover
Rule by Jay Crownover
Finished: 11/1/15
Rating: ♥♥♥♥

I expected this book to be just another angsty romance novel about a hot, tatted up bad boy and a nice girl. Boy, was I wrong! This was a story about two very dysfunctional families: one that experienced the tragic and sudden loss of a loved one and how that loss affected every single one of them. The other family was too ensconced in their power, wealth, political connections and keeping up appearances to see that their child was suffering and had been for a very long time. In this intense family drama about owning up to actions and opening up hearts, there was a lot of misplaced blame and anger, but there was also a lot of sorrow and guilt that resulted in a total breakdown of a family. Blinders were put on, misjudgments were made, secrets were kept and hearts were shattered. Despite everything though, two people who weren't shown much love growing up, were still able to find love and give love to each other. It was a beautiful thing!

It felt kind of repetitive just through his point of view. I like his thoughts. You get to see things through his eyes and his feelings but most of it just the same. I was expecting more. I was expecting a little more from his POV but didn't get it. I guess I have to re-read the first books and then this one to see if maybe there was something I miss because its been awhile since I've read them.

I thought with so many positive reviews this was going to be better. It wasn't terrible by any means, but by the end of it I was kind of annoyed with Nix's foul, controlling, ridiculous way he spoke to Kadence. if it were just toned down a notch I think I would have enjoyed it more.

Gunmetal Magic (Kate Daniels, #5.5) by Ilona Andrews
Title: Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews
Rating: ★★★★
Read: 11/7/15
Review:

Gunmetal Magic is Andrea Nash’s story after The Order had forced her into “retirement”; once her beastkin nature was discovered. Jim, the Pack’s head of security, assigned Andrea as the lead in a murder investigation at one of Raphael’s business locations. Raphael and Andrea had been apart for several months and the investigation forced them to work together thus rekindling their romance.

What I loved most was seeing Andrea finally accept her beastkin side and take control of her life. By the end of the story, Andrea’s character developed in so many positive ways. Andrea may not be a part of The Order any longer but she still has that intense desire to succeed.

The story ends with her and Raphael having their HEA – she has joined the pack and pledged her allegiance to Aunt B. Surprisingly she became Aunt B’s beta after being challenged for the position. Now I am left to wonder how long this bliss will last once Andrea has secured her place within the clan and is no longer satisfied with being Aunt B’s beta. It should prove to be an exciting adventure.

I've read so many supernatural series that I have a hard time finding new books to read that can actually hold my interest. I couldn't put this book down!!!! The story was so different than any other I have read. I wad immediately draw into this world, I absolutely fell in love with the characters, and I mean all of them. While I'm not anywhere near being qualified to critique any ones writing abilities, in my opinion this story was written very smoothly, and was very easy to read. Everything your looking for in this genre of books is there; action, romance, supernatural powers. This book started out as just a book to fit a shelf called in Bingo but I will definitely be reading the rest of this series! I would absolutely recommend this book!!

Bayou Moon (The Edge, #2) by Ilona Andrews
Bayou Moon by Ilona Andrews
Finished: 11/17/15
Rating: ♥♥♥♥

I'm a big fan of Ilona Andrews. I love the "Kate Daniels" series, so I set out to check out her other works and I’ve not been disappointed. I loved the relationship between Cerise and William. Cerise, she's strong and determined, and admirable. She holds her family together when disaster happens. I loved William's vulnerability and dedication. He has his difficult and sad childhood. He's a changeling, he's a monster, but when William loves, he loves true and it's forever. As for the story it starts out slow and the plot was vastly more complicated than “On the Edge”, but still a great read. Basically, if you liked On the Edge then you will like Bayou Moon.

I love Nora Roberts and this was my favorite book. There was so much going on in this book that I couldn't put it down. This will definitely one book I will re-read in the future. Elizabeth went through so much just to try and do the right thing but it didn't turn out as easy as the police thought and young Elizabeth had to fend for herself and without the help of a cold hearted mother. I don't know if I can be as strong as this 17 yr old. She really is strong and very smart. A really good book.

A is for Alibi (Kinsey Millhone, #1) by Sue Grafton
Title: A is for Alibi by Sue Grafton
Rating: ★★★
Read: 11/16/15
Review:

"A" is for Alibi is the first book of the Kinsey Millhone series. For the most part I liked the book but was really hoping for something more.

Kinsey is a P.I. who lives alone, works alone and really prefers it that way. It was hard to feel a connection to her character because of her indifference towards everything. I think I was hoping for another series like John Patterson's The Women's Murder Club.

I felt there were several instances where there was unnecessary detail (I really did not need to know every street she went down during her morning jog) just used as filler. As this is the first book in what is apparently a very popular series and that it was published in the early 80's I am hoping that Kinsey's character will continue to develop and for there to be stronger storylines.

I will give it another go with the next book before deciding whether to continue with the series.

Along Came a Spider (Alex Cross, #1) by James Patterson
Title: Along Came a Spider by James Patterson
Rating: ★★★★
Read: 11/22/15
Review:

Along Came a Spider introduces us to Detective Alex Cross and is the first book in a 20+ year series. I enjoyed the book - although I did not like it as much as I did the books in The Women's Murder Club. I think I was able to enjoy the story more because I have never seen the movie starring Morgan Freeman.

I found Alex Cross to be an extremely intelligent character and I enjoyed the interactions between him and Gary Soneji/Murphy. There were some plot twists that I didn't see coming which was refreshing. I fear we have not seen the last of Soneji/Murphy.

I recommend the book to anyone who enjoys a highly detailed murder/mystery. I'm looking forward to reading the next book, Kiss the Girls.

I loved this story. Three women that come together and become such great friends that it's like they made a family. Stella was a strong character.
