R12: Team #8 ~ Vor8ious Readers

I've downloaded Kiss and Spell and Blood Promise from library. I have been anxious to read Daggerspell and Echoes of Betrayal. Plus at some point I need to force myself thru Kate Daniels #2 because peeps say #3 will hook me ...

Read a book: featuring 'DARK' or 'STORM' (or any variation of either ~ IE: stormy, darkness, etc) in title, series or author name or a black or grey cover

Good Job!! :D

This one may take me a while. All book covers on eInk ereaders are gray so I need to get back to a real computer to see bookcivers in color. Or give up and just read whatever someone else is reading.

I'm either going to go with

LOL! Maybe I'll be tempted to read Dark Skye! I don't have the audio, though, so I'll look first to find an audiobook that fits.

I really liked his book - hope you enjoy it. I did it on audio if I remember correctly

The Hell You Say by Josh Lanyon

Review: I enjoyed this more than the previous installments in the series. Excellent writing, good mystery, although cults and satanists are not my favorite storyline, humor, sarcasm, not so much romance. I was rather saddened by the way Jake handled things and I can't wait to read what will happen next.

Review: I was delighted to read more of main character, Wren, and her current and back story. On that front, the book didn't disappoint. And it looks like series is gearing up to feature more of PB and the fatae, which could be a plus. The story itself, not really my taste. More mystery and tracking down clues; murky politics and conspiracy theories — even a super secret agency coming into the mix along the lines of a star chamber (not PUPI which was completely absent from this different timeline story arc). Lousy in the romance department with the heat level fifth graders angsting the like-like-know-don't-like-like crap. Wren was more fun and more independent in the other series--and did more "retriever" work than tracking down clues and conspiracies.
Well written and a lot of interesting bits to the characters and the worldbuilding. I have no clue if I'll be pursuing series. Not immediately pursuing, I keep my mystery/conspiracy-theory books spaced way apart because not my favorites reading despite the interesting bits I might pursue later.

I'm about 75% done with my book. Had I picked a shorter book I'd be done, lol. That's what I get for picking a 700 pg book

I hope you're enjoying it, especially since it's so long! I admit I'm not a fan of this author :(

Review: I've been looking forward to Acheron's book since I started this series. I kept putting it off as I bought it in hardcover and it's over 700 pgs long - it's a doorstopper, lol. Reading the first half of this book just about killed me. Acheron's childhood is traumatic to say the least - I'm amazed at how he maintains being such a caring person with what was done to him. Acheron finally gets his HEA with someone who sees all of him and loves him for it. Yeah!! Brother Styxx 'sort of' redeems himself. Heifer goddess - only thing that would have been better was her dying in this book IMO. Still hate her and I hope she never gets a happily ever after - I sooo hope she gets someone in her life as miserable as her. Either that or Acheron should just let Simi eat her!! The ending - if that situation progresses - yuck!

The Enemy of Old is ready to claim his Bride and with her the Dacian and Horde crowns. Things are finally lining up for him to get his revenge and he only has to sacrifice one hillbilly mortal in the process. Simple right? Not when Ellie has decided she's not giving up without a fight.
So I didn't loooooove it but I still really enjoyed it. I think if I wasn't cramming fairytales down my throat for another challenge I might have enjoyed it more. Lothaire was his usual cocky and terrible self. He really is a turd and I don't know how Ellie was able to fall in love with him, lol. He was really despicable to her. Lucky for him that she's smarter than he gave her credit for and she was able to turn the tables on him. She made him want her to the point of madness. Or is it sanity since he was already crazy?
I love the characters in this series, every last one of them. They're all a little crazy and I end up laughing throughout most of the book. Not to mention the sizzling sex scenes- Bonus points! Looking forward to the next one!

URBAN FANTASY Space
Better Homes and Hauntings by Molly Harper
Finished: August 27, 2015
Series: N/A
Rating: ★★★★☆
Number of pages: 318
Review: This one was fun. I kept expecting the Scooby-Doo Mystery Van to pull up or a red-headed boy doing a bobwhite whistle, in a good way. More the gang visiting at the gilded age upper New York money haunted mansion ghost story with villain you expected to be pulling off a latex/rubber mask than what I would consider urban fantasy (a chicklit ghost story cozy mystery). A lot of humor which I might not have enjoyed in another mood and might not be to everyone's taste. Less a mystery with clues than just haunting that gradually unveiled the tale without anyone being a clever sleuth. More heat than you'd get from a Scooby-Doo episode or Trixie Belden book but otherwise very much along those lines. Heavy on geek, SF, and comic book references. Except for the clearly villainous characters, I liked everyone which is probably a big part of my enjoyment.

Review: this is such a fun series without a lot of angst. We finally get Bastien's story and learn more about his past and why he is the way he is. Perfect for him that Melanie (Dr Lipton) was always on his side even if she didn't have any knowledge about what was going on - just always gave him the benefit of the doubt which no one else has provided him in years. They are sweet and sexy together. Add in Emrys and bad guys. the Immortals trying to see if they can recruit some vampires to spread the word about Emrys' gang and there tranq's. Richart's Second is hilarious! Interesting development for Ami. We learn more about David and Seth. Can't wait to get to the next in the series.

Even though this series reads like pure Urban Fantasy, it also has the PNR element of every book focusing on a different couple. It's one of the things that I love and hate about this series. Well hate is not the right word because let's face it- I love everything Ilona Andrews writes. I just don't have the same connection to it as I do Kate Daniels because I only have the one book to build a relationship with them. Sure, we get to see or hear snippets of characters between books but it's just a tease.
This series offers something more though. Three different 'dimensions' for lack of a better word. The Broken is the place where the mundane humans live. The Weird, which is where magic is strong and the people and creatures have an abundance of it. Lastly, The Edge, which is where people live that have some magic- too much for The Broken and not enough for The Weird. The Edgers often straddle both sides, traveling between the boundaries. However, it's painful and can be deadly depending on how much magic a person has.
Audrey Callahan is trying to make a life for herself. She's got a regular job in The Broken and isn't looking back. However, her father (POS!) shows up and talks her into one more heist to save her brother. Her payout? That her crappy family never contacts her again. She knows it's dangerous but it's worth it to be free and clear of them. Audrey soon learns that the object she steals is far more dangerous than she knew and both sides are fighting to get it into their hands. Neither of which are the good guys.
Enter Kaldar Mar- ladies man, thief, spy and much more. Together they have to follow the trail to get the object back. In true Andrews fashion, they fight, they trade insults, the sexual tension is through the roof and they fall for each other. It was bound to happen!
Another thing that I loved about this book was that Jack and George have prominent roles. It was so good to see those boys again! Mischief, mayhem, and plenty of laugh out loud moments made this another great installment to the series. I highly recommend any book by Ilona Andrews!

Review: I loved the first half, another great world created by Ilona Andrews, with the characteristic elements of their writing. I really liked Rose and the boys. I found myself getting a bit bored during the second half, though. Overall a good story and I'll continue reading this series
