Free space read for me is probably gonna be

Crystal I need to continue reading that series.. I swear I start so many and they get lost in the shuffle. I'm on book 4 of that one. Sometimes I just have to set up a monthly BR to MAKE myself read them!

You know what I had to do to keep up with my series, Danielle? I created a "next up in series" shelf and went through my entire bookshelf and every single series I had started, I tagged the next book to read. And when I read those books, if I'm continuing with the series, I tag the next one. I am determined not to start any new series (unless that shelf is called) AND I try my hardest to pick my bingo books from those books. I usually am able to. It's helped a lot and is actually working, slowly but surely. LOL
Alright, I'll get our team list started on my first comment of the thread (#10). May take me awhile since I have to remind myself how to make links and all that.

On a side note, if this game lasts more than 15 weeks (surely it won't, but just in case) I will be going to Ireland and the UK for a 2 1/2 week vacation. I should have internet access enough to post reviews and such, but I may need someone else to cover for me as captain. That would mean this ends up being a really long game though. But, since more shelves are needed for a win, I'm not sure how long this round will last. So I'm covering my bases in advance. :-)

That's great advice! I might consider it, at least for my series that I'm at least 3 books deep in. Just thinking of doing it for each one gives me hives lol

Berit I meant to say before that DoSaB is one of my favorite series out there!!! I did the audio, it was amazing. All three books :D

Book:

Date Finished: 7/21/15
Rating: 3.5 stars (though it will formally have a 4 star rating)
Review:
I liked this introduction to the Vampires in America series. The books comes off kinda dark to me. There aren't any controversial scenes or things that are hard to swallow, it's just that literally the book was dark. The settings, the clothing, everything.
The good: I liked the way that Cyn and Raphael's relationship was progressing. Their interactions didn't seem forced and I could really feel the chemistry between them as a couple. The plotting was really good too. I really liked the story set up, the mystery/issue that was tackled (in this case someone close to Raphael was kidnapped and Cynthia was hired to find that person), and I also REALLY liked that Cynthia knew about the existence of vampires already and had interactions with them so we got to skip all that mess about "oh I don't believe you are really a vamp" or "you lied to me, you should have told me you are a blood sucking demon" yada yada yada. She came straight the world of vamps, not knowing everything, but at least we got to skip all that crap. I prefer to read PNRs and UFs whose stories center around a world where supes are out of the closet. And this one delivered on that. Though vampires are more like the pink elephant in the room rather than a complete part of society.
The Bad:
I didn't care for some of the writing elements. There were scenes (thankfully not a lot but enough for me to notice) that we received POV from beginning to end from both characters. What I mean is the story would move along and whatever happens will happen and we would receive it from Cyn's point of view and then the next passage would be taking the story back just a tad bit and giving us Raphael's POV. I didn't care for that because I think there are better ways to show a character's reaction to particular set of events without backtracking the story. It was kind of annoying.
The UGLY:
I took half a star off my rating for two things:
1. The issue that Raphael and Cyn had to face as a couple... for some reason they had an issue with commitment but for the life of me, I can't figure out why. There is a lot of brooding looks and moments where one of them says something critical to or of the relationship and they basically have a mic drop conversation where they are like here's this very important thing I have to say and now I'm going to walk away and make assumptions about what you think what I said means when really all I had to do was stay and listen to you say how you feel about what I said. Their issue seemed really contrived and leads me to point #2...
2. The ending. This is a Not Happily Right Now But Obviously We Want You to Buy More Books ending. I really truly believe that the ending and the challenge they have in their relationship solely exists to set up book number and while I enjoyed this one, I'm a little mad about that.
I will continue this series as books go on sale or are available at my library.

This book looked so intriguing but to me was a great disappointment. I could not enjoy this book - it bored me absolutely to death. I was never so glad for a book to end as this one. I hate that I did not enjoy it and I know that there are those who thoroughly enjoyed it but I was not one of those people. I kept thinking that it had to get better but alas it did not. Nyx drove me crazy. She had to be the most wishy-washy character but I found myself really drawn to Ingenix. Loved him. Definitely will not be reading the next book in this series any time soon...

Hahahaha I started ranting a little.

This book was a lot more than I expected. I really enjoyed the different levels of vampire and the different roles they played. Rose was a strong, sassy, snarky, and likable girl. I loved the bond she shared with her BFF Lyssa , They really were there for one another. I also liked the fact that Lyssa had some pretty serious issues to deal with that a lot of non-vampire teens have to deal with as well. There wasn't as much romance in this book as I probably would have liked, but I'm assuming that's coming in the next books, which I definitely will be reading!
