I have that sitting here right next to me. It goes out as a "soon to be swapped". So it has to be read before digging into me tempting goodies. Such as Bitten by Kelley Armstrong which I bought for $3 (new) at a liquidation sale.

I spent the day reading Delia's Crossing by V.C. Andrews.

Her books for some reason I have read all out of order. I had the Dark Highlander for years in box in my basement and never read it. Found it and after I read it found out that it was book 5! well then I didnt want to go backward found book 7 cause I didn't think I would like 6 but now I read them all out of order but they are all fantastic I love them!

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments I'm like you, Lauren. I read KMM's Highlander series out of order, but enjoyed them all. Maybe because I read them out-of-order that I enjoyed them..because the 1st book is not in my top-three fave in the series.

Still the series overall are fun reads..and if you like audiobooks, you should get them in that version. Phil Gigante's reading is just sexy..LOL.

Kasia So I'm reading Sabriel right now... Any opinions? Anybody? So far I'm not all that into the story :/ but it's got it's moments. I donno what to think about it yet.

Nikki ♥ Just started Virgin River by Robyn Carr. It was a little slow in the beginning, but it's starting to pickup.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments I want to find a good, I guess it'd be historical, you know the romances about the frontier or war. I see alot of covers but that's about as far as I get. There are just so many. After reading a couple rancher/cowboy stories I'd like to find a good series. Historical accuracy is not a must for me, lol.

Trying to branch off into different genres. Oh and m/m historicals, and paranormal historicals welcome as well.

Still reading Delia's Crossing. Since it is a LIB. I am trying to finish it quickly. I am glad that is actually a good V C Andrews book. Some other recent series I have not liked as much.

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 1890 comments I'm working on a real-life love story, Love in Condition Yellow: A Memoir of an Unlikely Marriage by Sophia Raday. It was my first win from the GR First Reads programs, and so far it's been excellent.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I still have to find time to read the ones I've won (3), but they don't fit any categories. Either I need to read faster to get to books that don't fit challenges or I need to cut down on signing up for them. lol

Congrats on your win Julie.

message 64: by Julianna (new)

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 1890 comments Thanks Briansgirl. I've won a couple over on Librarything, but this was my first here. I know what you mean about not having the time. The ones I have won, plus a few free books I've received for author-requested reviews have been about all I can handle these last few months. As slow as I am at reading, I have a feeling that one of these days, I may get a few too many. I did manage to fit this one into two of my challenges though, so that helps.:-)

Colleen Gleason has a five book series that is set in Europe in the late 1800's. It's a sort of Buffy the Vampire Slayer complete with the yummy, mysterious men. Great series and all the books have been published so there won't be any waiting if you like it! I've read the first three and am about to start the fourth. I really liked the books and this is not my usual type of book, but I fell in love with them anyways.

Elizabeth Vaughan has a trilogy set in sort of medieval times. I loved, loved these books. Starts with Warprize, then Warsworn, and finally, Warlord. She started another series too, if you end up liking these.

Another old world paranormal romance series is byC.L. Wilson. Her Tairen Soul series is a great, epic love story with lots of magic.

This isn't usually a genre that I look for so these are the only things I've read that I think would fit.

message 67: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 81 comments Hi Melissa I agree with you on Colleen Gleason Love Buffy in a ball gown series heheheh. I added the Tairen Soul to my ever growing TBR list.

I have started to read The Immortal Highlander

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Finished 2 books last night:

Dark of Night by Suzanne Brockmann (audiobook)-

I know a lot of fans hated this book because of the unexpected pairings, but I enjoyed the whole experience. When I gave up my preconceived desire on who Decker is supposed to end up with, I actually ended up liking the whole storyline.

Stolen by Kelley Armstrong

As usual, Armstrong's prose flows smoothly, I just have to keep reading. I enjoyed Elena and Clay's relationship and starting to appreciate the dynamics involve. Will definitely check out the third book, although I noticed it might be a different narrator..hmmm..

Started on audiobook, Eldest by Christopher Paolini and on book form, Richelle Meade's Succubus Blues.

message 70: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) Still reading Bone Crossed and also reading The Prince's Angel which I'm really enjoying. This book is probably stretching the "Royalty" theme since he's the VAMPIRE prince of London but hey...they refer to him as your "Excellency" so it works for me.

Kenji, if you like regency historical romance and you're in the mood for some M/M, Bound by Deception is supposed to be really good. There's also a sequel Bound to Him. I haven't read them yet but they are on the list.

message 72: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 4413 comments Just finished Lover Awakened - definitely need something light after that, so have started Connie Brockway's The Bridal Season, which takes place in late Victorian times. It's about a woman 'who lives by her wits' - a con artist. I'm expecting lighthearted, but am only one chapter in so anything can happen.

Kenjii, Pamela Clare has a fantastic duo (soon to be a trilogy, I think) set within The French and Indian War. The two I have are Surrender and Untamed. I highly recommend them.

I have read Bound by Deception and Bound to Him by Ava March and I enjoyed them both. I liked book 1 more than book 2, but then I felt that book 2 served to tidy up the left over answers from book 1 more than anything else. If nothing else it provides an interesting look at m/m relationships during that period - always fascinating to me, even more so because of the laws of the time. Don't know how historically correct they are, though. I should prob do a bit of research and fill in my intellectual gaps (of which there are many).

Kenjii, while going through all my M/M books I came across one that takes place in the old west Stealing West. Haven't read it yet but it looks interesting.

Great suggestions! When I am not familiar with a genre I just really enjoy looking at the covers and say, hmmm that looks interesting. But these look and sound interesting too! So yeah they have been added to my TBR pile =D.

I concur! I really enjoyed Elizabeth Vaughan's Chronicles of the Warlands series - it was like a woman had taken Conan the Barbarian and re-written it, which is prob why I enjoyed it more than the original Conan stories lol. Am currently reading her Star series and enjoying those, too :)

As an aside, currently re-reading Dream Man by Linda Howard. This was the first book of hers I ever read, a few years back, and I really liked it. Wanted to recapture a little bit of that 'new joy' this week

Kasia, I do empathize with you!! I often have those 'flat' moments where I just cannot be bothered reading... but I want to read...but I can't find anything to satisfy me... And then of course there are those hideous times when I want to read all the time and I have work, family, and/or social commitments all keeping me away from my book! Grrrr.... can be frustrating. Just think though, as someone famous once said, "this too shall pass." ;)

Sarah | 367 comments Lauren, can you read Red Fire on its own, or do you have to read others first? I saw it at the store and wondered.

message 87: by Nikki ♥ (new)

Nikki ♥ I'm reading An Offer From a Gentleman by Julia Quinn. So far I am really enjoying this series.

message 88: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Lauren,

Let me know what you think of Red Fire. I've read Knight's Midnight Warriors series, and I just loved it.

Sarah,

I think Red Fire is the first book in Deidre Knight's new series call Gods of Midnight.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I'm taking a little down time from books too. After taking two weeks to read The Hunt for Red October by Tom Clancy, I just can't decide what to read next.

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 1890 comments It's been a while since I've read a PNR, so I picked up Sherrilyn Kenyon's Night Embrace last night.

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Melissa wrote: "I'm reading Night Embrace by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I'm having a hard time because there as SO many characters and it's been awhile since I read the two before this one. I feel like I'm constantly try..."

You know, I wasn't really enoying this book anyway, but this exact issue was what finally made me close it with 100 pages to go and say "I'm done."
I truly felt like Kenyon was dragging the book on and on so that she could continue to introduce new characters. Like "Hey, I'm going to bring the plot to a screeching halt so I can introduce the heroes for subsequent books! I'm trying to start a franchise!"
It was just so self-indulgent and I too was having trouble keeping track of it all. Reading this book was like trudging through thick mud and around the fourth or fifth time she stopped the movement of the story to introduce a new character that I'm just certain she was planning a future book for, I just said screw it. I can't do it anymore!

So yes, Night Embrace was my last Dark Hunter book. I will not be continuing that series.

message 92: by Kasia (new)

Kasia And my reading break is over, I allowed myself to be sucked into yet another series - Uglies. Lately, I'm such a sucker for young adult sci-fi, who knows why.

I did finish it, but it took several days of me reading a little here and a little there. It made me seriously reconsider continuing with the series. It will be a long time before I pick up another one, if I bother at all. Glad I'm not the only one!

message 94: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 81 comments Hey Sarah as far as I know Red Fire is the first one. In the prologue it gave a good back ground story of what was going on with the Spartans. I don't feel lost or anything.

Hey Yz so far its good I like it. I have seen the movie 300 and loved it, similar to movie at least for me. I love Spartans hehehe. It has yet another god in it Ares he basically asks 7 of the spartans if they want to serve him and protect man kind.... (artemis and dark hunteresk) but no soul taking hehe. I'll let you know when I finish more but i am really enjoying it.

message 95: by Julianna (new)

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 1890 comments Nichole and Melissa, Re: Night Embrace

I'm only 60 pages in, and I already feel like there are too many characters being thrown at me. Mostly it's just been mentions of characters that I know will be in future books in the series, so I haven't yet experienced the stops and starts in the plot that Nichole mentioned. I have to say though that I haven't really been wowed by the DH books as a whole yet (sorry all you DH lovers;-)). I thoroughly enjoyed Fantasy Lover, and I liked the short story "The Beginning" which I understand is now part of the book Acheron, but since getting into the meat of the DH series, I've just been having trouble keeping track of all the characters and plot connections. Not to mention I don't feel like I have a really good grasp on the origins and purpose of the Dark-Hunters. I gave Night Pleasure a, perhaps over-generous, 4 stars (it was probably more a 3.5 rounded up), and so far Night Embrace isn't faring much better for me. I'm trying to be open-minded and just go with the flow, but it's nice to know that I'm not the only one whose having issues with these books. They always get such high ratings, I was starting to feel like an oddball.;-)

tosca (catatonichataholic) | 742 comments Am reading The Film Club A Memoir by David Gilmour and it's a lovely non-fiction memoir. When David realised that his 15 year old son Jesse was not going to stay in school he made a deal - Jesse could leave school and sleep all day, not pay rent and not work BUT he had to watch 3 movies a week with his dad. Of his dad's choosing. And so begins the film club. Gilmour, a film critic, decides that the only way for him to effectively teach his son what he thinks he needs to know is through what he knows best - film. What keeps me reading is that I want to know how and why Gilmour chose the films. I mean, heck, the idea of having to watch Basic Instinct with my dad fills me with equal parts terror and hilarity. My poor old dad would wonder what I was trying to tell him and I'd be too mortified to watch anything but the credits LOL And the idea of discussing it rationally afterward? Whatever! I take my hat off to David Gilmour :)

Ooh, I'll be curious to know what you think of that one, as a friend just lent it to me last week.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) I started Succubus Nights (Succubus on Top for those not in the UK) last night. Loving it so far and was disappointed that sleep and work meant I couldn't finish it. Really enjoying this series!

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Almost done with Lone Star Legacy. Was really hoping I could rate it higher and review. But its really only an OK romance for me. Looking forward to getting a good historical I was recommended.

Next up (among the many others I am already reading lol) Last Wolf Hunting came in. Since I absolutely loved the first book, Last Wolf Standing, I am looking forward to Jeremy's story.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Sounds very interesting Tosca. I read a newspaper article about that but havn't seen the book yet. Don't know if my library has it or not.

I decided to start (later today) The Saddlemaker's Wife by Earlene Fowler. I needed an E book or author for read the month and wasn't in the mood for the one I'd already picked. (I was going to read a Janet Dailey americana book for J author and E book but already have a J author now with Julie Garwood.) I've not read anything by Fowler before but she's well known, from what I read, having written many quilt mysteries (each book is named after a famous quilt block pattern.) I only have the Reader's Digest version of this book, but that's still 100-150 pages. Also gets me my unique profession for Men We Love challenge.

Anyone else have this problem? I have fun filling out my challenge books at the beginning of the month/challenge and before the month/challenge is over I've changed my mind on at least a third if not half of the books. lol
