Chrissie I assume there will be many of us in the same boat. What is the best way to systematically clean up errors?

Seems logical to first fix the shelves. Here are some typical problems:
-my GR favorites are not on the BL favorite shelf. How do I get them there?
-at GR I had three wishlist shelves. They are books I want to read soon. Should I move all the books on those shelves over to the BL wishlist shelf? How do I do that? My BL wishlist shelf is now empty! I want a way of sorting the books I plan to read into different categories. How do I do this?
-are there exclusive shelves as on GR? I mean by that a book can only be on one of the exclusive shelves.

Maybe all questions about shelving could be grouped here.

I would appreciate advice on where to start when your import is completed. If it is not shelving, please explain.

D.G. BL is working on Exclusive Shelves but they don't have them yet.

Can you link to where you got that info, please?

How do they mean for the BL wishlist to be used? Is it a shelf like any other? Why is there nothing on it when I have three whishlists and none of those books were put on that shelf? I am confused.

I have a favorites shelf at GR. How do I get all the books on my GR favorite shelf over to the BL favorite shelf?

- Go to your shelf in BL
- Change the view to table view
- Select the books you want to add to your favorite shelf
- Click "add to shelves", select the favorite shelf and click close

Your books should appear on your favorite shelf.

It only didn't transfer them because the name of the shelf wasn't identical - I see your shelves have other characters besides the word 'wishlist' in them.

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) (ibookienookie) Ok, so here I am - same name http://bookienookie.booklikes.com

why are all my books jacked? the covers don't match my reviews http://bookienookie.booklikes.com/blog

message 10: by Heather in FL (new)

Heather in FL (heather_fl) A lot of my covers are missing... I have to figure out how to add them. And I think I saw something about editions? Like Goodreads could have many covers because it tracked the editions and Booklikes is very specific to the ISBN? Or something?

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) (ibookienookie) many of the book covers don't match the book reviews and they are mostly for this foreign (maybe german) psycho thriller...

For instance you can see the wrong cover image here: http://bookienookie.booklikes.com/pos...

message 12: by Heather in FL (new)

Heather in FL (heather_fl) Well that's just weird!

I got that too! I could change that on the import page. It was kind of tedious, but I could do it while watching TV.

I had the same exact book show up for one of my imported reviews! I came over here looking for an answer to the very same question.

Heather in FL (heather_fl) Maybe it's subliminal advertising. ;-)

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) (ibookienookie) ok, holy crap, it put that same cover on several hundred of my reviews O_O yikes!

Sunny☼ (sunny2) I have kobo books so on GR the ones I picked were called simply ebooks. Not kindle. All of my Ebooks came without a cover.

That is because the source of BL books is
Settings, then search tab. The default being Amazon.

You have three choices that I have discovered so far, change your book description to paperback, kindle. or if you want to keep it ebook, download the GR cover of choice to a picture file then up load your picture to BL. you do this by clicking on their green cover and it will tell you how to up load your cover.

message 22: by Krazykiwi (new)

Krazykiwi | 54 comments You can also change store and search the kobo store for your exact edition. At the bottom of the search dropdown is "manage", and there are many choices other than amazon (I even had a swedish book store - not the one I'd pick, but it's a big one and has a good choice, so it's at least useful to me.)

funny that their default setting is Amazon and they have partnered with Kobo.

Oh, cool....added the other bookstores in.

message 24: by Heather in FL (new)

Heather in FL (heather_fl) Argh, I feel so pathetic trying to use Booklikes! When you say "change your book description to paperback"... where? And I have seen people say they've edited their reviews... I can edit the ones I created on Booklikes, but can't see how to do that on the imported ones?

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) (ibookienookie) Heather in FL {GRRRRRR censorship} wrote: "Argh, I feel so pathetic trying to use Booklikes! I couldn't find that either.

message 26: by Sunny☼ (new)

Sunny☼ (sunny2) Amazon just has the biggest library. I doubt very much any partnering has occurred.

BL may have to pay each of these groups a fee to have access to their libraries. If return they improve the odds that we will buy from them.

message 27: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I think their import used ISBNs to find the appropriate books and when that info wasn't available, it didn't find the right book.

Zafia | 82 comments Heather in FL {GRRRRRR censorship} wrote: "I can edit the ones I created on Booklikes, but can't see how to do that on the imported ones"

dashboard/search tags/write name of book in question/find it in the list/click edit.
IDK if there's an easier way.

message 29: by Heather in FL (new)

Heather in FL (heather_fl) I'm apparently still an idiot. First, I don't see "search tags"... if I put the book name into the search box, I can get to the book page. If I go to the "Book page of this edition", I can see my review and click on it, but I see no edit. If I just click the book and click on Review, I see my "blog post", but still no edit. If I look at it in table view, I see "See Review", but no edit. I can edit my shelves, but not the review. On the ones I created on Booklikes, there's an edit button in the upper left, but not for the ones I imported. I'm sure I'm doing something stupid, but I just don't see it.

message 30: by Zafia (new)

Zafia | 82 comments http://booklikes.com/dashboard
Look at right side, theres a box called search tags and within it say "tag / author / book"
write the book in question

message 31: by Heather in FL (new)

Heather in FL (heather_fl) OK I take part of that back... And the edit on the ones I created is in the upper right, not left... I see "search tags"... but my imported reviews still don't give me the option to edit.

message 32: by Heather in FL (new)

Heather in FL (heather_fl) GRRR... No, I'm just lacking brain cells today apparently. I wasn't looking at *my* review at the top... it was someone else's review of the book. Sheesh. This is NOT intuitive. :-( But I *will* get used to it, lol.

Heather - In your dashboard, hover over the upper right hand side of your review and the edit button will show up (I had the same problem at the beginning!)

Might I suggest looking at your own review in the future hehe ;). The dashboard will give you all of your followings reviews of said book and also with matching words. That's why I said idk if there is an easier way.
I'm glad you got it worked out.

Chrissie Can someone tell me how I can get just my review of a particular book on a screen where I can also edit it. I know the edit word should appear in the top right corner but it is not there on many screens.

The only place I can find to edit one of my reviews is from the "blog" page where I have searched for a particular book, but then I get a long list of everyone's reviews for that book and I have a hard time finding my review among the many there.

In Table view, you can see all of the info for the book, ie author, title etc. (dashboard, self, table view)

First, be sure that your download is complete. Until you get the email saying it is done there is no sense trying to fix. Many of my demons were corrected once the download finished.

After you get the email, then go to dashboard, shelf, table view.

Frankly if the demon is still there and there is no or incorrect info it is best just deleted.

If you are able to figure out what book it is and there is no review, delete their demon, search for the book you want and add the correct one in it's place.

If you have a review, with a wrong cover but everything else is correct, use the help tab on the left of your screen. That is too precious to fool around with and make an error.

If you have a green cover and all of the other info is correct, Download the cover you want from the publisher or from GR, save to pic file. Then click on the green cover, Then click on Add cover and upload the pic you want. It now goes with the saved info you already had, plus it helps others in your predicament. They will now have a cover for the book.

That was the one!

In my case, it seemingly just happened with my most recent review, and I knew from the text of the review itself.

message 46: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Sunny,

Is it correct that the only place you can fix your imported reviews is from the "BLOG" page? (And the stupid thing is you can not search for the review of one particular book there!)

Is there no place where you can search to find YOUR OWN REVIEW of a PARTICULAR BOOK on a screen where you are then allowed to edit that review?

message 47: by Sunny☼ (new)

Sunny☼ (sunny2) No, not your blog. You must be in Dashboard, then to shelf..Use Dashboard's shelf not your blog shelf.

Hit Dashboard, then on the toolbar at the top third word down is shelf. Use that one. After clicking it, find where you are given a choice of Blog shelf or table view and pick table view.

Thanks Sunny... I was more concerned with finding my reviews that have spoiler text and either marking them spoiler or figuring out one of the other methods... I have to use the "search tags" method for that. Or the delete method you suggested, but I was hoping for something easier, like an edit review link in the table view or something. Maybe/hopefully something they'll add soon.

I have been using the bl wishlist is to denote a "planning to read" book you have not purchased yet. "A planning to read" book with wishlist not checked intended to mean one in your TBR pile that you already bought.

As in "planning to read" shelf stats from bl a wee bit more reliable than the "to read" shelf that UGB started using here.
