Caitlin (purple37) | 1 comments Hi,

I'm looking for a few more books to read. I prefer to read books that can be read as a stand-alone novel. I find it very hard to find something interesting in the fantasy genre that is also a stand-alone book. I was wondering if anyone had a few suggestions to help me out.

I'm not too picky about the genre. I don't like books that make you cry every few minutes or ones that have the serial killers point of view. I prefer stories with a female lead who can fight but that is not a requirement. Honestly I'm just bored and looking for something good.

If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks

Here are four stand alone fantasy novels you may enjoy. They are listed in alphabetical order by author, not preference.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albam
The Stolen Child by Keith Donohue
Life Expectancy by Dean Koontz
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

I hope that there is one you haven't yet read and will enjoy.

Megan (megandurrence) | 98 comments I know your struggle! It's so hard these days to find an actual stand-alone novel. I only have 3 fantasy genre ones to share, but they're all very good!
A Bite's Tale (A Furry Fable) by Veronica Blade The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater Jinx by Meg Cabot

Here's a few that are not fantasy, but still great reads
The Boy Who Sneaks in My Bedroom Window by Kirsty Moseley From Fame to Shame by Veronica Blade

Happy reading and good luck on the search!

Diamante Lavendar (diamantelavendar) | 6 comments I wrote a book entitled The Secrets Of Yashire. It is the first book in a series but is also able to "stand alone." It has been described as a different type of book because it is fantasy but also introspective...here's a link to it on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Secrets-Yashire...

I do have a stand alone book entitled Breaking The Silence as well. It is written in a memoir format and is actually my life story. It is a dark story of sexual abuse but also a story of hope and healing if you're into that type of thing...there are many life lessons sprinkled in as well..here's a link to that book:

I hope you find something you will enjoy! :)

"Both Sides of the Bedside: From Oncology Nurse to Patient, an RN's Journey with Cancer."

Having been in cancer combat for her patients, an oncology nurse fights her own battle with the beast and wins, while learning that the deepest grief and tears can produce the greatest strength and passion.

Christine Moore | 4 comments I also recommend "Hannah's Gift" by Maria Housden.

message 16: by Dena (new)

Dena McMurdie (batchofbooks) | 16 comments I really liked The Golem and the Jinni. It's a fantasy that takes place in historical New York.

message 17: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 1184 comments just because a book is p art of a series, doesn't mean it isn't a great stand alone novel. The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley is a good example.

Dune by Frank Herbert is SF with fantasy elements. Strong plot and characters and you can leave the rest of the books unread with no loss.

Something Wicked This Way Comes is Ray Bradbury's best fantasy novel, and is a standalone.

stormhawk | 1184 comments based on your read shelf, maybe try Mercedes Lackey. A lot of her books are set in the same world, but can be read without having to read them all. there are a few that do go together. Start with the Last Herald Mage

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 199 comments Sonya wrote: "The stand is pretty terrific"

I agree. My favorite Stephen King book. :)

Jesenia Sanabia | 6 comments My Life For Revenge fits your description, it was also just nominated for a reward in Suspense! Check it out here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1519...

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 42 comments I read Morningstar on my honeymoon, and enjoyed it immensely.

Other than that, I think others have covered the ground I'd have recommended. Though I make it a rule never to rec Marion Zimmer Bradley, given the details that are still emerging about her proclivities.
