It may be because I'm a big fan of Edward. Also I think its the best example of her work before she went into her sexploration mode. I found plenty of action. Personal preferences I suppose.

Lily (lilithesque) | 84 comments Currently reading [image error] and Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson . I am enjoying them both very much.

message 154: by Lynda (new)

Lynda I finished Revelations the third book in the Blue Bloods series. I am about to start American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

I think so, but you'd want to try a used bookstore first to see if you like them before shelling out for new.

message 158: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 179 comments I enjoy the Nightside books too. The first one will give you a very good idea of whether you'll like that series, or the Secret Histories (though Histories is a little lighter in tone).

message 159: by Anne (new)

Anne I like the idea of going to a used bookstore. Thanks, Melodie! I was suprised that my library didn't have any of his books. I didn't realize that he had written so many.

I'm reading Persuasion, by Jane Austin, but I think I'm gonna have to put it down for a bit. It's not bad, but...

Well Jessica I'm happy to report I am finally liking Obsidian Butterfly!! It's taken a while but I'm finally getting to the action!:) It's nice to get some more background on Edward for sure but he's kinda bugging me more now that I know more about him... but to each their own the books are still good and I'm definitely going to continue with the series!:) I guess I'm one of the ones that like LKH's sexploration style of writing ;)

I had Warbreaker in my hand yesterday. I didn't get it though. I want to read his Misborn series first, but my bookstore didn't have the first one.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) I like Nightside - it's like Dresden, but more straight-forward. Kind of goes the "dark and gritty" route, which I like. It goes get rather formulaic, though.

I was kinda meh about Kiss Before the Apocalypse. It really was the same sort of formula as Dresden and Nightside, but not as fun, and very predictable. The only good parts, really, were with the dog.

I'm not reading Fablehaven, which I don't think qualifies as UF even though it's set in the modern day.

Melodie, you were soooo right! I ended up giving DEAD AND GONE five stars! I can't wait for the next one to come out!

message 164: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 109 comments I just finished Vampire Academy #3. I loved it, it was much better than the others. I'm also finishing up Wicked Lovely. It's a sweet story, basically a fairy tale. Not really any action though, and I like a bit of violence in my books. :P

message 165: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) I finished Vampire Academy #3 this weekend too! Reading Iron Kissed now. Not sure how I'm going to like this one..

message 166: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 109 comments ^^Haven't heard of Iron Kissed. I'll have to look it up.

Right now I'm reading One Foot In The Grave (Night Huntress 2 ).

message 167: by Anne (new)

Anne Iron Kissed is the 3d book in the Mercy Thompson series, by Patricia Briggs. Excellent series!

message 168: by Lily (new)

Lily (lilithesque) | 84 comments I agree about looking in a used bookstore before buying these books. I dont buy a lot of books, unless used, or something I am really going to read over and over.

I like the series so far (just finished the second book). All the comments here about nightside are true. they are somewhat formula predictable but the majic is nice and original and that with in the gumshoe formula is fun and a nice break from all my kick ass women books. I gave it 4 stars. I just love shotgun suzie and the personal pain related to the talking gun felt real. I liked it.

I would buy the first book new if I had no other choice. It is that good. Another choice is, with my library, they will let me reqeuest they buy books. They have done it every time so far. I dont abuse it, but it is worth a shot.

Yes it is. I'm trying to get into it but I think the weather yesterday threw me off. It was so muggy I didn't want to do anything! Hopefully I'll get more reading done today!

I really like Suzy Shotgun, too, and Dead Boy. Some really "out there" characters in this series, for sure!

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 109 comments Lily wrote: "I agree about looking in a used bookstore before buying these books.
So is it easy to find newer books (released in the past year or two) at used places? I seem to have a really hard time since I usually go in having a list of what I want to read. I think it might be our area as well. Even Chapters our huge bookstore doesn't have what I want half the time.

Right now I am reading Evermore.

message 172: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) It might not be as easy to find newer books at used stores. I haven't been in one in some time as there isn't one near me anymore. The early Nightside books are older than that, so I'd think you might be able to find them. I really liked EVERMORE. Didn't care for the 2nd one, BLUE MOON, that much.

message 176: by Smash (new)

I have that one waiting at home for me to read. I THINK it will be either that one or Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand...hmmm. They are both due back to the library next week Saturday. I shouldn't have started Iron Kissed until after I was done with those two! lol

message 178: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 179 comments Anne, I think Lamb is even funnier than A Dirty Job in certain ways. Enjoy!

message 179: by MsBeaglely (new)

MsBeaglely | 114 comments I'm in a reading rut at the moment. I started to read Once Bitten, Twice Shy & got bored with it. So I stopped & picked up Howling at the Moon. Guess what? I got bored with that one as well. I ended up changing genres and read the Transformers novelization. I finished that one & now I'm reading How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire. Maybe after this one I'll go back to one of the two that I haven't finished yet.

Have you read Bloodsucking Fiends and You Suck A Love Story? They are great!

message 184: by Anne (new)

Anne Yes, I have read them both (loved the tie-in scene in A Dirty Job!), but I think I actually liked A Dirty Job more. Maybe I was just all vampired-out when I read them.
Have you read Blue Bloods yet? I'm picking it up from the library tomorrow!

message 185: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 179 comments Anne, I actually felt the same way. For some reason, I think his vamp books are his weakest. His next book is going to add a third to that lil series.

Stupidest Angel was pretty hilarious. The others are enjoyable simply because he's imaginative with a good sense of humor, but they're not Dirty Job and Lamb! Haven't read Fool yet.

message 186: by Jessica (new)

Should get to BLUE BLOODS this month. Right now am reading Meridian by Amber Kizer by Amber Kizer. A bit different!

message 189: by Anne (new)

message 190: by Lauren (new)

Lauren starting A Kiss of Shadows (Meredith Gentry, #1) by Laurell K. Hamilton

message 191: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) Finished Iron Kissed last night and it was fantastic! Will start Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand today sometime. Then it's all about Christopher Moore for a few books: A Dirty Job and Practical Demonkeeping are waiting.

message 192: by Susan (Suz) (new)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) Finally finshed Obsidian Butterfly!! Definitely needed a break from Anita, so I am currently reading Lover Unbound

Next will be either Destined for an Early Grave (once I find out from my mother-in-law if she's bought it and need to returnt he copy I bought or not) OR Strange Brew

I thought Harry's story was the best one, too. It even made me laugh out loud. Most of the rest was just "eh" and some were just plain bad!

message 197: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 169 comments Haven't been able to get in touch with my Mother in law, so I've been reading strange brew in the mean time. I always go into anthologies expecting a few stories to be stellar and the rest just ok, so I'm not usually disappointed by them.

message 198: by Lynda (new)

Lynda Finished Vampire Diaries #1 and have started #2 The Struggle.

message 199: by Anne (new)

It doesn't get much better than the EARLY Anita books. As for the ones in more recent years....well, I will never pick up another after getting ripped off with SKIN TRADE.
