I'm only a few pages into Simon R. Green newest book The Spy Who Haunted Me. I've enjoyed this quirky UF detective/magic user books. He's full of the pulp fiction detective quips and funny character names. Satisfies my Brit dry humor need.

Love Green's Eddie Drood! Lots of fun.Murphy mentions the events in that Winter Moon short a lot in subsequent books. Confused the crap out of me til I read it!
I'm almost done with P.N. Elrod's Bloodlist. I can't seem to get into it, but it's such a short book that I want to finish!
I'm taking a break from reading after I get done with Storm Born. I get this way every six or so months...too many distractions...
Quit before finishing Magic to the Bone by Devon Monk. I didn't care for the book so why waste my (precious) reading time with reading something I don't like? Now I'm reading My Wicked Vampire by Nina Bangs. I read this "trilogy" a couple of years ago and LOVED it. However, I tried out other books by Bangs and didn't love them. So when I heard she was coming out with another Castle of Dark Dreams book, I did a little happy dance. :) Loving the book so far!
Elvia, what did you think of Storm Born? I have that on my to-be-read pile.
I'm reading
which is not Urban Fantasy, but it's still a fun red. I'm also about to start
. I loved the previous books. The way the author mixed her vampire lore with history is fascinating to me.
Crowgirl wrote: "I'm only a few pages into Simon R. Green newest book The Spy Who Haunted Me."Finished and loved it. Great fun. Green brought Walker from the Nightside to be part of Eddie Drood's story and even mentioned snippets of those stories. Good monsters!
Anne, I'm very jealous of u right now! I haven't had the money to buy The Lost Symbol and I'm 675 on the list at the library!!
Elvia wrote: "Anne, I'm very jealous of u right now! I haven't had the money to buy The Lost Symbol and I'm 675 on the list at the library!!"I don't have the money, either! I almost fell over when I got the email from the library saying it was waiting for pickup! I put my name on the list the day it came out, but I was still the 30th person in line! 675?! Wow! Maybe because we live in such a small town, not that many people wanted to read it? Or maybe it's the whole "Bible Belt vs. Dan Brown" thing? I do live in the South, after all.
I'm going with the bible belt theory. lolI put my name on the list the day it came out too. Apparently a LOT of people in Ohio want to read this book. I haven't been that low on a list for a book ever...movies yes, books no. *sigh*
I'm reading An Echo in the Bone I'm finding it easy to do other things with a brand new Gabaldon book in the house. That's never happened before-- even with the Lord John books. I don't think it's the book, but...An Echo in the Bone

Well, don't take your name off the list! I really like it so far!
Anne, I'm hoping someone in my family will feel sorry for me and buy it! lol I am anxious to read it!!
Sandy wrote: "I'm reading Winter Moon. So far I've read C.E. Murphy's story in it."I discovered that Winter Moon is a reprint and that I read it when it was first released back in 2005, but I don't remember that far back. How was the C.E. Murphy story? I remember that's why I bought it.
I'm currently reading Staying Dead by Laura Anne Gilman. I wanted a break from the usual Vampire & Werewolf storylines, so I decided to try something different with magic & wizzards. So far it's very boring & I'm not impressed. I'm almost 200 pages into the book & NOTHING has happened. So far it's mosty the characters doing research - how exciting, don't ya think?? Almost ready to give up & move on to another book. If anyone has read this one, please let me know if it's worth sticking it out.
I'm still working on Urban Shaman and The Book Thief... I tried to find the 3rd BDB book (Z's), but somehow Barnes and Noble didn't have it in stock! Horrors!
I've started Fray, by Joss Whedon (very cool!), My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon (reading the Dresden story by Butcher right now), and I need to read the first 2 chapters of Jane Eyre before Saturday. I promised a friend that we would read (and discuss) it together. I figured, what the heck, it's been on my to-read list forever anyway!
I will be starting Death's Daughter today at some point. I finally finished Storm Born and loved it.
Elvia wrote: "I will be starting Death's Daughter today at some point. I finally finished Storm Born and loved it."I have DEATH'S DAUGHTER in The Pile. Need to get to it before long.

It was good. It filled in some references from the Walker Papers books that I missed until I read the short story in Winter Moon.
I just finished the first 3 in the Darkwalker novels by Kat Richardson: Greywalker, Poltergeist and Underground. The first book was a bit heavy in the attempt to EXPLAIN what the Grey is and what its like to be in it. The Vampires are good and monstrous (not pretty boy lovers) and the She-ro is tough but not a bitch. I enjoyed them, especially by the time I got to #3 but I don't know as if I'd spend money on them. Advantage of be a library supporter. Also they're not heavy on sex, more occult mystery.
Crowgirl wrote: "I just finished the first 3 in the Darkwalker novels by Kat Richardson: Greywalker, Poltergeist and Underground. The first book was a bit..."I read the first book in that series a while ago. It was an interesting concept, but there was so much information in the book that the plot seemed really slow-moving and heavy. I also checked it out from the library...think it's really worth hunting down the rest?
Summer wrote: "I also checked it out from the library...think it's really worth hunting down the rest? "I wasn't greatly impressed with the Greywalker world. They're not the worst to kill time with. I'm probably going to read the rest just because I have lots of time on my hands. Like I said, by book 3 the characters were taking on more depth and the story was getting some interesting twists. Book 1 did drag. I tend to like the wise-ass, pulp fiction detectives more than the serious type as in these stories.
Finally caught up with Carrie Vaughn and have received Blue Bloods 4.I am sorry to say that I am going to drop out of any groups that I belong to. I have got to be free to pick my own books. Otherwise I feel guilty about following my own desires. I am old and set in my ways and do not want to read books by authors I do not like or am not in the mood for.
I would be glad to be followed by or be friends with anyone in the groups I joined.
blackrose wrote: "Started Wait Till Helen Comes A Ghost Story"The young adult/children's novel by that name? I was obsessed with that book when I was younger. Wow, I'd even forgotten about it until now. Thinking back, that's probably where my obsession with the paranormal all started...

Are you telling me that you actually do the group reads? Most of us only do them if it is convenient or we wanted to read that book anyway! Hahaha! Don't drop out!
Summer wrote: "blackrose wrote: "Started Wait Till Helen Comes A Ghost Story"The young adult/children's novel by that name? I was obsessed with that book when I was younger. Wow, I'd even forgott..."
Yeah. My niece, who is in 8th grade, got it out of the school library and left it at my house the other weekend when I was minding her. She told me how scary it was, so I gave it a whirl. Actually not a bad ghost story, for a kids book.
I think what got me started into "horror" stuff, way back when, was Christopher Pike. I loved his stuff growing up. My dad gets blamed for the fantasy side, though, from when I was well young. *grins*

Yeah - what Anne said. I hardly ever read the group book unless I'm actually interested in it. I think
Urban Shaman was my first from here, to be honest.
I finished Blood Rites and Wait Till Helen Comes A Ghost Story. I am half way through Stardust Being a Romance Within the Realms of Faerie by Neil Gaiman.Lynda, when I first started GP, I felt that I needed to read all the BOM and Challenge books. Caused too much stress and increased my to-be-read stack beyond what was comfortable, so I now only read the books I think I'll like and at a leisurely speed. Saves me money too
Lynda wrote: "Finally caught up with Carrie Vaughn and have received Blue Bloods 4.I am sorry to say that I am going to drop out of any groups that I belong to. I have got to be free to pick my own books. Othe..."
I belong to several groups and have only read maybe 3 group reads because they were books I already had and was going to read anyway. I never bother if it's something I'm not interested in. They're just suggestions. You don't have to DO any of them!
I've only been a member since August & the first group read that I'm going to participate in is On the Edge next month. I read Urban Shaman a couple of years ago & I'm not one to re-read a book. In August, I had just finished Cry Wolf and being that I found it so disappointing, I was not in any hurry to read Hunting Ground at that particular moment. If it's not a book that I'm interested in or don't have access to the book, I'm not going to read it.

I'm the moderator and I think I've only read and participated in a handful of the group reads. For instance, this month's title doesn't interest me so I'm not doing it. Looking forward to next month's though! Just because it is a group read doesn't mean you are obligated to participate. :)
Just finished Zaddik a mystery set in NYC's Diamond District, with a skosh of woo-woo.Now reading Made to be Broken by Kelley Armstrong, but this is not part of her Women (or Men) of the Otherworld. This (and the first book in the series, Exit Strategy) is about a lodge owner in rural Ontario who is also a hitman. "Hitwoman or even hit- person, of one wants to be PC, but if you ask me, "politically correct" and "killer" are two terms never meant to go together."
Hi,Thanks for the invite back. Finished The Van Alen Legacy and thought it was the best of the series so far. Decided to see what all the hype is about, and am going to start Twilight.

Melodie wrote: "I have DEATH'S DAUGHTER in The Pile. Need to get to it before long."It was OKAY. Nothing too great.
I started
Let the Right One In and am enjoying it so far. Oskar is a little whacked out. lol
I finished
and am about halfway through
.Welcome back Lynda, glad you decided to come back, i for one never read the group reads but I love all the discussions and it's a great way to find out about new books but I don't ever feel like I HAVE to read them if/when everyone else is.....
I'm reading
. I couldn't figure out if I had read all of the books in this series from Charlaine Harris in library copies, so I decided to buy them and read through them.I had read the first one a couple of weeks ago. I needed something small and compact after reading Stephen King's The Stand so this one came out. I'm enjoying the book. It isn't as good a series as the Sookie vampire books or even as the Aurora Teagarden series which is a cosy mystery series set in the US. The main character is a lot more prickly than either Sookie or Aurora. But Charlaine Harris is a good writer and writes a good book.
