FALL 2013 READING CHALLENGE
4A I completed with Beautiful Redemption because most of the characters were obsessed with The Book of Moons and part of the story took place in the lunar library.
Rachel wrote: "Thanks for the update Danell! I thought joyland was a great book-hope you enjoyed it.p.s. if you like hotel on the corner of bitter and sweet-the author has a new book out Songs of Willow Frost."
I really did enjoy "Joyland". Good book! Thanks again Rachel for expanding my tbr list. The "Songs of Willow Frost" looks good!

What did you think of it? I really disliked the book, myself.
I am also about to be finished with the Halloween task. Probably in a day or two.
I just finished The Best Revenge It had an FBI agent in it. Its a great page turner. Its part of the Alan Gregory series but it could be read as a stand alone.
thanks for the updates Josh & Christine :)Josh- I liked coraline-I will definitely read gaiman again.

I didn't like Coraline when I read it but you know how perceptions change over time. I read it 3-4 years ago, maybe I would like it if I tried it again. Coraline was the first Neil Gaiman I tried. I have enjoyed the ideas presented in his books - gives me something crazy to think about and I like that.
I recommend The Graveyard Book.

I gotta recheck it out from the library. I didn't get around to reading much of it when I had it out but I did LOVE the beginning. I also LOVED Odd and the Frost Giants. My sister loved that one as well.

I believe my head may not be in its proper place, I made chocolate the other day but neglected to make a chocolate covered apple. Recently we went apple picking and had apples on the counter. Even made my son a caramel covered apple. Possibly today I will make a chocolate, nut and coconut covered apple.
Will finish "Hotel on the corner of bitter and sweet" this week. Such a good book!
Well, it turns out I finished
, didn't have much to finish when I posted earlier, my son went to a friends and the hubby was playing a game, so it was nose in the book for me!! Great book, really enjoyed it! This book works for the war part of the challenge. Next is
, this works for the character that would blend in at a Halloween party.

I finished The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane. I will miss it. This book meets task #4 by both having characters obsessed with a particular book and being set partly in a library.
I have completed the Halloween Party challenge with Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice. The main character, Lestat is a vampire. I can actually see him hanging out in a Halloween party for just the hell of it telling everyone he is a real vampire. It would also fit into the obsessed with a book challenge because Vampires want to kill Lestat because he wrote The Vampire Lestat. Lestat also writes Queen of the Damned during the last part of the book.3)

Now I am tackling the Sherlock Holmes challenge with not a Sherlock Holmes novel but instead with Ted Dekker's The Bride Collector. The main character is an FBI agent. Though I am sad to be leaving Lestat's story for a little while but Anne Rice's novels take forever to read. XD
Josh wrote: "I have completed the Halloween Party challenge with Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice. The main character, Lestat is a vampire. I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to your thoughts of it!

Danell wrote: "Josh wrote: "I have completed the Halloween Party challenge with Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice. The main character, Lestat is a vampire. I can actually see him hanging out in a Halloween party f..."my fave dekker book is The Priest's Graveyard and Thr3e was great too.
Just finished Imagined London: A Tour of the World's Greatest Fictional City Its my book that has less than 200 pages. It was disappointing. Anna Quindlen is one of my favorite authors and London is a place I have wanted to visit for a long time. The book was boring and she made London seem boring.
I just finished the Sherlock Holmes challenge with Ted Dekker's The Bride Collector. Since everyone wants to hear my opinions on the novel, I LOVED IT!!!! It was very fast pace, a really great ending, and great character. This is my first Dekker book I have read. I have been eyeing his books for the past 4 years or so now. I am glad I got to reading one of his novels. I will be reading more of his stuff in the future as I find it. 3)

My next book will be Resistence: A Hole in the Sky by William C. Diez. It is the prequel to the video game Resistance 3. It follows a fictional war set in the 50's between earth and aliens. The great thing about the games is that they capture the terribleness of wars. I hope this novel will shed light into the dim area's of what happens between 2 and 3 because there was a change of characters and I want to know more about the main character in 3 and what made him change from 2 to 3... I am going into way too much detail without providing names I just realized and reading this confuses me a little but its just because I forgot names from the games... its been a little while since I played them.
finished Still Life With Crows
for the Sherlock task- pendergast is an fbi agentcreepy story about a serial killer running loose in a small town surrounded by cornfields :O

My dad loves the Pendergast series. He brought up the entire series up for me when he came up the last time. Unfortunately he forgot two books because they weren't with the other books. One of the ones he missed was Still Life With Crows. I can't wait to get to reading these books. They sound great! =D I know dad just bought the latest one that hit paperback so I guess he'll bring that and the other two he missed bringing up the next time I see him.
still life with crows is the second pendergast book I've read (the other was The Cabinet of Curiosities) and I really liked them both- agent pendergast is a bad ass ;)
the cornfields in still life with crows gave me the creeps- i kept thinking about the movie children of the corn which i saw years ago -that movie basically scarred me for life lol

Read Living Dead in Dallas, which works for #3 in the challenge, one of the main characters is a vampire.

Does Casino Royal fit into the war challenge? It is set during the Cold War. Telling how the UK dealt with the Cold War.
Josh wrote: "Does Casino Royal fit into the war challenge? It is set during the Cold War. Telling how the UK dealt with the Cold War."sorry the cold war doesn't count-has to be a war where fighting occurs :(
p.s. it can be any kind of war: i.e. ww2, zombie war, etc

Thats too bad. Some of the best stuff that happened during the cold war happened through spying... especially James Bond. XD I'll read something soon on war... such as Star Wars or read Resistence. I didn't know zombies had enough brains to start a war. Some of the Darren Shan novels had some great wars in them. The Vampire/Vampaneze war and the Demonata/human war being the two. =D I think there was also a war in the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe... I just gotta finish that. So close to the end. Must finish it SOON!! lolI am going to read Chase by Dean Koontz, the main character is supposed to addicted to alcohol... at least that is what I read on Goodreads about the book.
Dustin Crazy little brown owl wrote: "How about The Chocolate War?
"Haha. Those aren't true wars. You gotta have death, violence and MANLINESS, in those books! Those do not. XD

Have you read both Grandpa's War and The Chocolate War? I have only read Grandpa's War in elementary school back in the old days.

Nah, I haven't. I remember a group of my classmates did a report on The Chocolate War though. I was assigned to read a TERRIBLE vampire novel... even worse than Twilight... no action occured in the book and the author built the ending quiet nicely BUT in the end, one of the bad guys messed up a ritual that the ending up all leading up to. It felt like pretty much a video game with an OOPS we forgot to put in the final boss of the game type of deal.
Finished Killer Librarianit has books on the cover. Starting Blockade Billy for the book under 200 pages part of the challenge.
