Laura - you are absolutely correct, the article "the" doesn't count.

Kim by Rudyard Kipling
I have taken a lifetime to get around to reading Kipling's classic YP novel. Glad I got to it in the end.

A great story I thought. Strangely I discovered it shortly after visiting Highgate Cemetery which made the story really come to life.

I struggled a bit with Kipling's prose and had to re read. I realised I missed quite a lot of crucial information.

I read this years ago after seeing the film. If possible I thought the book was more harrowing than the film. The kind of book you never forget.

The film was quite a chock to me. I don't want to think of the book. I don't think I can read it now that I'm a mother...

The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox by Maggie O'Farrell
A great but disturbing read. Here's a chapter of fairly recent history we prefer not to think about. I could not put the book down.

Wild Hares and Hummingbirds: The Natural History of an English Village by Stephen Moss
X is going to be tough! I had to add one for W to see if anyone can come up with a book to follow! :-)

I read this back in the 80's, when I was travelling a lot, and going through my armchair travel phase. It's good, but drags a little.
