Paul, I read it probably 20 years ago and it is still very clear in my memory. That says something for me.

Exactly!
I finished the audiobook of Maya's Notebook by Isabel Allende. I really enjoyed it and definitely want to read more of her work

Because I love dogs so much, I am picky with dog books. This one I recommend.

This morning I also started The New Gods by Emil M. Cioran but I gave up. I tried to read this book a few years ago, gave up, and now I tried again for my challenge to finish books I already own. I have read the first 3-4 pages of every chapter (everyone about a different topic) but it's not my cup of tea.

My review of Washington Square: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Oh, what an extraordinary book Washington Square is for a novella written in 1880! I can only give it 4 stars and not 5 due to some wandering and oddness of character in the middle, but it starts beautifully and ends even better. This is a book that refuses to follow any of the Victorian tropes of its time .. even more so than books by women authors of the period, it upends expectations.
By the end, I adored Catherine. She reminds me very much of my real-life sister in so many ways, many facets of her personality both good and bad but the preponderance is endearing and very much to the good. Overall, I adore her!
