Petra | 3324 comments I just finished A Town Like Alice. It's a beautiful story of two people meant to be together. It's not sappy or romancy and is told in a quiet manner. I really enjoyed it.

PattyMacDotComma 5★ Compassionate look at early-onset Alzheimer's disease: Who are we when we aren't ourselves?

Still Alice is by neuroscientist and author Lisa Genova. I don't know whether or not the lower case i in the title, ALiCE, is to show that she is disappearing, but that there is still a bit of her left at the core.

Petra | 3324 comments I completed The Underground Railroad. It rubbed me the wrong way throughout. I kept hoping for things to turn around but they didn't.

Patty I also thought this was a wonderful book, and would definitely recommend the film! The acting was amazing and I felt even more emotionally involved watching it compared to reading, which makes a change.

I have just read The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. A quick read and I really liked it. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Might have been even more emotional considering your name, Alice!

Esther (eshchory) | 1368 comments I have just finished Doomsday Book. It was a book club read but something I had been wanting to read for ages having received so many glowing recommendations.
What a disappointment :(
It wasn't dreadful just meh and the writing style was so irritating. I will not be revisiting this author.

In contrast, and despite the long break, returning to Rotherweird was like picking up with an old friend. The world and its in habitants are so beguiling that just thinking about reading this book makes me smile.

Chrissie I am glad I read On the Road: the Original Scroll, and I am glad I chose this edition of the book. It made me recall my youth. The book is not going to fit everybody.

I love that book! Have you seen the TV series? It's amazing when it's brought up to scratch with modern society :D

I know I wasn't in this conversation but I do have an answer. :) If Vicky is referring to the most recent adaptation, the series is on Hulu not technically on TV. You just need a Hulu account to watch it.

PattyMacDotComma Aussie author Louis Nowra wrote Into That Forest about Tasmania, inspired by stories of feral children elsewhere. I've added links in my review to the fascinating 'real' stories.

Chrissie I can highly recommend One Man's Meat by E.B. White. No, this author does not write just for kids!

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I am telling you this book is even for those who are not into essays and short stories. BTW, White wrote for The New Yorker for 6 decades! That is some sort of proof.
