Chrissie I haven't read Wodehouse, Greg. I think Travels With My Aunt will fit other people better than me. Most people enjoy mysteries too.

Oh I loved Travels With My Aunt it made me see a very different side to Greene. He is very droll.

Gill | 5719 comments I've got a quarter of the way through Nostromo and have decided to give up on it. I'm not enjoying it; it's a shame, because I've read The Secret History of Costaguana and liked that one a lot.

message 5404: by Ann (new)

Ann I just finished my first Margaret Atwood novel, The Blind Assassin and I loved it. I would give it 6 stars if I could. I will definitely be reading more of her novels.

That is the next one I plan on trying. Sounds promising.

Yay! I really liked The Blind Assassin and am always glad when others enjoy it, too.

Shirley | 4177 comments Ann, that was my first Atwood read, too, and I also enjoyed it very much.

message 5408: by Janice (new)

Janice Sitts | 237 comments Well, Margaret Atwood, looks like you'll be on my TBR for this week as well, Blind Assassin, it is!

message 5409: by Charbel (new)

Charbel (queez) | 2729 comments I finished The Catcher in the Rye yesterday. First time I read it I think I was fifteen. I have to say that I really didn't identify with Holden back then, and it's even worse now. I kept my original rating (3 stars), but I was very tempted to bring it down to two. Am I the only one who finds it incredibly overrated? It's been referred to so often as the greatest american novel, but it's not near as good as To Kill a Mockingbird, is it?

message 5410: by Pink (new)

Pink I think that's how I felt about it Charbel, I read it in my twenties and didn't get the fuss at all. Think I'm the wrong target audience.

I've seen several comments on Alias Grace so I'll be adding that one too, IF I actually enjoy TBA

message 5416: by Shirley (last edited Jun 28, 2015 03:01AM) (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments Ive just finished reading Blacklands by Belinda Bauer. It was unsettling and disturbing at times as the two voices were that of a twelve year old boy and a serial killer. It certainly kept me reading to the end!

message 5417: by Sharmanka (new)

Sharmanka | 3 comments I just read Mad Women: The Other Side of Life on Madison Avenue in the '60s and Beyond, it's a non-fiction book (a memoir) about a woman working in advertising business in the 60s. Has some interesting perspectives, but not very exciting.

message 5418: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 304 comments I just finished My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry, 2**'s. I thought it was a tedious, repetitive and boring fairy tale. I'm really disappointed because I read and enjoyed A Man Called Ove by this author.

I am glad I am not the only one who isn't a fan, I could not see what the fuss is about truth be told.

The only Atwood I have read is The Handmaid's Tale I really enjoyed it, the story stays with you, especially the unanswered questions. Not sure why I haven't read any other of her other works, I shall have to try Blind Assassin.

I have recently finished Mornings in Jenin it is the story of the Palestine/Israeli war told through three generations of one family. I believe this story will never leave me, it is heart wrenching and so human, showing that love can be found in war. I didn't know much about this area of history prior to reading and it has inspired me to find out more. Highly recommended.

I think The Blind Assassin is Margaret Atwood's best work, although I haven't read any of her books since Oryx and Crake.

Chrissie You are welcome. You get a balanced point of view....if anything in the Middle East can be balanced any more. The Lemon Tree: An Arab, a Jew, and the Heart of the Middle East is an important book.

It wasn't for me, and I had a hard time getting through this book. In truth I didn't even want to finish it, but I just cannot finish a book. It'll just drive me nuts until I do. You can read my review to understand why I struggled with this book.

Emily-Ann, If the book blurb itself on GR is any example, it seems that Lane is in need of a really, really good editor. Even the blurb is all over the shop! A proficient editor would have pulled the book around, tightened and firmed up the flow and cut unnecessary parts; all which it sounds like this book would have benefited from.

Oh dear, that is on my TBR short list! Maybe I will move it down a bit... I have been feeling that too many of my books lately were only good not great so it sounds like that might fall into this category (or even worse).
