Jaytee | 51 comments Hi! I'm a newbie and excited to be part of this community. I love reading but I have been doing very little (I am a slow reader on top of it). I want to change that but this is not some flimsy new year's resolution. I am strongly committed to making more time for books. I am a member of 2 book clubs but have difficulty finishing the books on time; hence, I have not attended many of the meetings. I have a weakness for library sales and used books and have accumulated more books than I can properly store (my "nightstand" IS a pile of books with my alarm clock on top!). I am easily distracted by other books so I end up buying books a lot faster than I can read them (I usually donate them back to the library when I'm done with them). I am open to reading anything and most of my experience has been fiction. I love to learn so non-fiction is a huge interest as well.
So, my initial focus is to read the books I already own and not bring home any more. I do have a kindle as well so a virtual pile also exists for me to enjoy.
Thank you for your time in reading my intro. I look forward to book discussions here and learning of your experiences and thoughts as part of my journey of deepening the enjoyment of books!

Welcome Jaytee! we don't really care how fast you read and how many books. In here you'll find incredible reader - more than 300 books per year, string reader, normal reader and other types! So you'll find something to chat about!!!

message 2007: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) | 720 comments Welcome Jaytee! IMO, it doesn't really matter how many books you read as long as you enjoy them.

Couldn't agree more Julia!! It's not a race; it's what you get out of them that counts.

Welcome Jaytee!

message 2009: by Bonni (new)

Bonni Hi all!!!! Julia invited me to join and thank you to her for that. I use to think that I read too much but I have "met" too many wonderful people in my books to stop now. Thanks to Goodreads I have found more authors to enjoy and can't wait for more to come in 2015.

Alice Poon (alice_poon) Welcome all new members!

@Jaytee, don't worry. I am a reader who read at snail pace and I never worry about the number of books I've read. I just enjoy the reading process.

And Jaytee, I agree with what Laura, Julia and Greg said -- enjoying your book is what matters whether you read it in a day or take a year.

Hi everyone, I just joined the group this afternoon and I'm excited to get plugged in :)

I'm Sara and I live in Michigan (where it was -3 this morning blech). I'm a hockey mom, an avid baker (muffins are my specialty), Learning Coach for one of my kiddos (virtual charter school), and then I'm also a huge book nerd and public library addict.

I recently started working my way through Boxall's massive 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die List, with a goal to read at least 800 of them (to date I've read 53). My overall reading goal for 2015 is 45+ books, with at least 35 of them coming from the list (including three door stoppers- Middlemarch, Infinite Jest and Vanity Fair).

Noah Bourdeu (noahbourdeu) Hello everyone! My name is Noah, I'm a 30 year old male from Mississippi and I have been an avid reader for years yet I never knew about GoodReads.com ! I joined the group so that I could discuss the books I love so much with other like minded readers.

Since I'm knew to the group, I was wondering how I could get involved with some Group Reads? If it helps, I love Historical Fiction, Fantasy, SciFi, and I recently got into Young Adult via The Maze Runner series.

I guess I will end with the last book I read and the current book I'm reading; I just finished Inferno (Which was AMAZING) and I'm currently reading Neverwhere. This is my first Neil Gaiman title and I am already enthralled with his amazing prose and narration style. I can't believe I waited this long to read his novels!

Thanks for reading, I hope to make lots of new friends and get to know all of you! Noah

message 2047: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments Welcome Noah! Please feel free to join in any of the Group reads or the readalongs -- all you have to do is start posting in the relevant thread. Sounds like we have some similar tastes in books (historical fiction, sci fi, fantasy) so you should be able to find some books to your liking & maybe a few surprises :)

Thanks Leslie! I will definitely check out the Group Reads! I hope to find some surprises along the way! Until recently, I have always avoided Young Adult fiction, I'm not sure why, but I always thought as an adult I was to "Mature" for such content. Then I started reading The Maze Runner. I now realize the error of my thinking. As a result of my previous ignorance, I now have a TON of Young Adult fiction to catch up on!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Hi Noah - I really enjoyed Neverwhere - I have yet to find a Neil Gaiman book I haven't enjoyed. You might well enjoy American Gods if you haven't read it yet. I'm in the midst of The Maze Runner Series at the moment. This is a great and varied group to be a part of.
