Hi to everybody! I am dely, from Italy and I am new to the group (reading your messages I could understand that a lot of you already know each other from another group).
I like to read above all Russian literature but also Indian authors (I love to read about India, its culture, traditions and history); but I read roughly everything except romance, sci-fi, YA and perhaps something else.
I will give a look to the discussions of the group to familiarize ;)

Welcome dely! We read all kinds of things here :) I am glad to hear that you like Russian literature as one of my personal challenges this year is to read some Russian novels. I have spent years being afraid of them but this Feb. I found Anna Karenina surprisingly easy to read. Sadly, I can't really say the same for Fyodor Dostoyevsky, although his short stories weren't too difficult.

I love Dostoyevsky, he is my favorite author :D
I love him much more than Tolstoj but by him I have read only The Death of Ivan Ilych, War and Peace and Resurrection. What have you read by Dostoyevsky? Have you read also other Russian writers?
This year I have taken a little stop from Russian literature (though I am reading a collection with all the short stories by Gogol): this year I want to read as more Indian authors as possibile and also books about cats. These are two personal challenges I am doing: a book for every Indian region to do a sort of "far and wide through India" and books about cats in memory of my beloved cat that died last year in November.

Hello I've hopped over from the Perks group as it was my favorite. I love fantasy, modern literature, classics, but am trying to educate myself with new authors and genres. I'm always open to suggestions and I have gaps in my awareness of literature from other countries which I'm trying to correct. I also like kids literature, I never outgrew it:) I'm from the Northeast of Britain

I don't know which book genre you like so I don't know what to suggest you for long Russian fiction.

For short stories check out Nikolai Gogol or Ivan Bunin and also Anton Chekhov or Ivan Turgenev. They are all easier than Dostoevskij and they are really very very enjoyable, above all Gogol.

I have read a few of Dick Francis' books but not as many as you might think. The ones I read were good, but he's not an author I go to a lot.

Hello everyone! I'm Kristi, living near Boulder, Colorado. Nice to see familiar faces from Perks! Thanks for setting up a new group, looking forward to it. I'm a chemist, live with my cat Squeak, like to spend time in the Rockies. Like everyone here, I love to read and buy books. I'm on pace to read more books this year than I've ever read before! I mostly read fiction--literary fiction, contemporary, speculative, historical, etc. I do read some classics, but not as often as I think I should so maybe I'll join you for the Dickens book this month. Hi, all - I'm Tracey, too - Tracey2? I don't often see folks with the same spelling! - from Connecticut, proud owner of a crazy rescued Brussell (beagle/Jack Russell mix), currently out of work (me, not Daisy) and trying to read twice as much while I can. I don't believe you can have too many books, but I'm starting to wonder if I'm wrong, given the piles and stacks around here, and the books I can't find in those piles and stacks... I'll read just about anything, but I usually drift back to fantasy, and I'm trying (trying!) to write one.
