SOLVED. Children's series about a girl who runs, lives with single mom [s]

This book is a thin one from a series of 3. The first one has her looking at a mirror on the cover. It's an illustration, not a real picture.

The book follows her as she adjusts to middle school life. She's a runner and goes running with her mom. At some point, she starts going through puberty and has to go bra shopping which is embarrassing. There she meets another girl, a hippie, who she befriends.

*Spoiler* At the end of the book, it is her birthday, and her dad gets her a dog.

Could it be this? I haven't read it but it does have the embarrassing shopping scene as mentioned in reviews.

No it's quite modern. I think the first book is purple, and the second one black. She has red hair, maybe?

I also remember that
-One of the books has a maroon colour and one has a black cover (perhaps the third has an indigo one?)
-She has an aunt who smokes but covers up the scent with Werthers, which she also offers to her niece. Her aunt takes her on a car trip one day and they go to a diner.
-She wants to see what she would look like with breasts so she stuffs her new bra with tissues. Her mom comes up and sees her there and admits she did the same thing when she was that age.
