Paganalexandria | 4065 comments Okay I just finished reading This Man (This Man, #1) by Jodi Ellen Malpas and Ava thought something in the beginning of this book that made me dislike her greatly.

I found it highly offensive that when meeting the butler at The Manor, who was "the biggest black man she ever saw" she reached for her rape alarm. WTF? Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell is one of my all time favorite books; I expect to see things like that in books created during that time period. This is a contemporary novel, so that took me for a loop. Maybe it's just me, but that seemed so racist. Did anyone else have that reaction?

I'm still reading the series because my undiagnosed OCD reading tendencies make me have to know what happens next. I still don't like Ava, though.

That is definitely problematic, and it would be hard to continue reading especially if I found the heroine/main character distasteful. Unfortunately, I just picked up this title a few weeks ago when it was either free or .99. Stuff like that sticks in my brain and I tend to think about it throughout the novel. So...it may take me a while to actually decide to read the novel, it probably won't happen until I've forgotten that little tidbit. Having said all that, it is more than likely a very honest statement concerning the thought processes of a certain segment of the population.

Paganalexandria | 4065 comments Tank, in the end I did give this book a 3 star review. This line didn't make me throw it to the wall, but it did begin my distaste for this character. I have to emphasiize began, because this was just one of the many flaws this character had. If she were more likable, this would not have really registered most likely. I could never understand besides physical beauty, what did she possess that is making Jesse loose his mind.

I'm keeping reading because hoping for some crazy explaination like in Consequences (Consequences, #1) by Aleatha Romig

How did you like the book Consequences? I have it, I know it's on the dark side, but what did you rate it? I haven't read it yet and I'm not ready for it eitherat this time.

Connie, I gave it four stars. I found it very disturbing and do not see how Anthony inspired all the fangirls garnered since its release. That being said, could not put it down. If your looking for dark erotica, it's not that. Less Captive in the Dark (The Dark Duet, #1) by C.J. Roberts more Dean Koontz. They do cut away scenes for the worst instances.

Connie | 761 comments Hmmmm, I see. I wasn't thinking that it was dark erotica necessarily. But just a dark story, period. No cut away on the scenes huh? It May be a longer while yet before I get to it. Thanks. :)

Yeah, they do cut away at the brutal moments. Some normal sexual moments play out, but anything OMG is left to the imagination, which is scarier.

Connie | 761 comments That's true. The mind can be a scary place. Especially those of us whom have over active imaginations.

Paganalexandria | 4065 comments If you are looking for just a dark story, then you should definitely move it up on your list. I was actually looking for another dark erotica non-consent read so was annoyed at first. Once I just went with it being more of a thriller; it was easier to really enjoy the read.

Let me assure you, if you torture yourself by continuing to the third book, she tops driving drunk on the TSTL heroine meter. By the time I finished This Man Confessed (This Man, #3) by Jodi Ellen Malpas my mind was in danger of exploding due to stupid overload. If you don't plan on reading it, take a look at my review for my take on it:

I haven't read this series yet, but from the reviews I've seen it's one of those books readers either love or hate. I know a number of ppl who couldn't finish it. I'm not sure if it'll make it to the top of my TBR list anytime soon.
