About to start Like Water for Chocolate. Fairly short and I know it's very popular so I'm looking forward to it.

Ended up abandoning A Tale of a Tub and I'm hoping to have better luck with The Fox. Starting it tonight!
(fyi: my old account had a glitch in it and it kept showing I had [-] books :p Had to reset my account)

Queen Margot, or Marguerite de Valois and A Clockwork Orange. Very different books but I think I'll enjoy them both.
The Hours. I enjoyed Mrs. Dalloway in November, so I'm looking forward to this one. Love the companion reads idea for this group!
Kathy wrote: "The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes."Love that book! I've also read Arthur & George wish I also enjoyed but I'm hoping Julian Barnes has another book which competes with The Sense of an Ending
Just started (1 chapter in) The Catcher in the Rye. I have high expectations as it's one of those must read books- I'm expecting it to be something similar to Steinbeck but I have no idea. Also as it's one of Jilly Cooper's favourite books :) Glad it's a nice short read too.

I've only read his non-fiction, so can't comment on any of his novels, but highly recommend Levels of Life. Really looking forward to eventually reading his two list books.
The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes. It will be nice to get a short one checked off the list. This year has so far been the year of the BIG books!
"A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens. After finally reading my first Dicken's novel in the Summer (Great Expectations) I figured it would be a good idea to try and get a second one under the belt :)
Cristina wrote: "The Pigeon by Patrick Süskind"I didn't realize this author had another book on the list, let alone being a follow-up to Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. I read Perfume this year and loved it.
*edited to add* Oh, I was initially under the impression that "The Pigeon" was a sort of sequel to "Perfume", which is not the case. It's just the next book he wrote. Sorry to confuse anyone.
Linda wrote: "I didn't realize this author had another book on the list, let alone being a follow-up to Perfume The Story of a Murderer. I read Perfume this year and loved it." I didn't know there was another book by this author on the list! Thanks to you, I went and checked out Perfume, and it sounds really interesting! I'm going to add it to my soon to read tbr pile. :D
Cristina wrote: "Thanks to you, I went and checked out Perfume, and it sounds really interesting!"Well, it is an interesting read, to say the least! Actually, I'm not really sure saying that "I loved it" is correct, but it was a fascinating and unexpected reading journey. :)
I think I will reciprocate and check out "The Pigeon", so thanks!

I started Oroonoko and I'm really not in love with it. The language is a barrier, but since its just a novella I'll keep at it.

Cristina wrote: "Where did you find it?! I was looking for it on the internet and couldn't find it. "You can find it for free on goodreads. Go to the book's page, and under the Want to Read button you should find a green button that says read book.
It's the version I read last year.
Tom Jones by Henry Fielding. I've loved Fielding's shorter works so I'm glad to finally get around to his doorstop. :)

Started The Killer Inside Me last night and love it so far! About half way through and hoping to finish it tonight or tomorrow :)
Luís wrote: The Pursuit of Love is well-humoured..I adoured it.That's on my fav's..I suppose this one I'm reading right now is the same kind .. ..."It should be, it's the next one in the series :-)
Started The Hours this morning. Don't think it will take too long to read. Interesting to see how it compares with Mrs Dalloway.
I started Pamela. Or, Virtue Rewarded a few days ago and so far it's an engaging read. I actually have both the Nancy Mitfords on loan from the library right now, but have not been able to pull myself together to start them for some reason.
Untouchable by AnandUntouchable
I'm a quarter way through it and learning a good deal about the old caste system in India.
Am about 50 pages into Saturday Night Sunday Morning by Alan Sillitoe. I like the idea of the weekend being one of 52 holidays a year just a shame I only get 1 in 3 off in my present job.
Genia wrote: "About two chapters into The Power and the Glory. So far, I am not sure I am a huge Greene fan."Give it time. It took me awhile to get into "the Quiet American", but I ended up loving it!
Just started Ulysses. This is my first attempt at reading this, and my goal is to make it all the way through on my first try. :)
Started the child in time by Ian McEwan on 31/12 and finished it today. I have just begun Comfort of Strangers. I think I have found my favourite author!
I have started The Brothers Karamazov (with another group) and Wise Blood. The second is very fast, quite short, and definitely weird. The first is neither of those things.
