Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 241 comments Grandma is now convinced that they have special lighting at the nursing home that can be controlled simply by shifting one's feet. Perhaps she's living light years ahead of herself????

message 252: by [deleted user] (new)

Maybe. God bless her.

message 253: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments Do you just have to smile and nod when your grandma tells you all these things Brenda? With some of the things it must be very difficult especially when she get upset. I hope she can keep smiling:)

Steven (tbones) | 55 comments Heading to the coast tomorrow...So exciting ... somehow I always manage to sniff out a new book store or a yard sale selling books on the way :0) Also, looking forward to just spending time with my wife and walking out on the beach...little getaways are always nice :0)

message 255: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 55 comments oh and they do have lighting that is controlled by clapping your hands so who knows...shifting ones feet might work great in a bathroom when someone is doing the potty dance and can't find the light switch :0)

message 256: by [deleted user] (new)

Been there done that Steven LOL

OMG, that must be so awful for her to believe that. She must be terrified!

She's probably having hallucinations! That's known to happen in people that are completely mentally healthy when their eyes fail them like that. It's called: Charles Bonnet syndrome. I just read two books from a very famous neurologist, Oliver Sachs, that's full of these kinds of stories. You should read 'em. Most definitely. Hallucinations
The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and Other Clinical Tales

Here's a link to the wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_...

Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 241 comments Chuck, thank you so much for that response and information! We've never heard of that before! (I LOVE social networking!!!) I'm planning on printing some of the sites out explaining what this is and presenting them at the home. I'm pretty sure many of them have never heard of this. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge!

message 260: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC You're welcome, Brenda! I just hope it helps in some way. It definitely sounds to me like something like that is going on. I do know stuff like that is way more common than a lot of people realize.

Steven (tbones) | 55 comments Angie wrote: "Where have you gone on holiday to Steven?"

We went down the coast on 101 in Oregon. We ended up all the way down into Lincoln City and checked the shops and such then walked on the beach for a bit. We made little stops all the way down and back up again. Just taking our time and exploring :O)

message 266: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 55 comments Ok now that is an awesome picture Angie. I would love to check out the thrift shops over in that area too...I can just imagine the books and cool antiques and such :O) Someday...someday my wife and I will have to fly over and see the sites :O)

message 267: by Angie (new)

Angie | 623 comments It was so amazing seeing that place, there's nothing around it for miles and even in the day time it stands out, I spent two days exploring there and it wasn't enough time. It full of tiny shops that sell everything as you go up to the top where there's a monastery/church dating back to 708. Its great in France exploring all the mediaeval towns and if I could live anywhere that would be the place:-)

Chuck, I can't tell you how much my family appreciates this. I'm having trouble with the home accepting it - my dad and I have a meeting with them next Thursday, and they WILL be listening to me as I educate them on this. Already I've spoken with Grandma, and she thanked me a couple of days ago, saying she remembered one of the things I mentioned - she said she'd seen a black man combing his hair in front of her, and knew that couldn't be since she was in her room, so she closed her eyes a moment and then he was gone, and she realized he was an hallucination. This is fabulous. I just love social networking! You guys are so helpful!

We will read in June Ghost Road Blues and Furies of Calderon...

Has anyone wona giveaway here on GR?

The other night I applied for some of the books and I was totally surprised to find out I won 2 books (one ebook and one will come by post)...I never thought I'd get a book especially here in Croatia where the shipping must be very expensive but that made my day a bit more smiling :)

message 295: by [deleted user] (new)

I won free horror novels a year back, Natasa. It's a nice surprise isn't it?

message 296: by Sam (new)

Sam Arnold (samharnold) I am planning a day today of very little except reading and chilling. Finished off with watching England play in the World Cup tonight.
