What Are You Reading in May?
Getting off to a slow start with Fireflies in December. The rest of May:
http://www.goodreads.com/event/show/3...
I'm working through Gardens of the Moon, and then it's on to Assassin's Apprentice, and then The Name of the Wind. All popular books - and the new Tolkien book is also intriguing me...
Colin wrote: "and the new Tolkien book is also intriguing me... "Do you mean The Children of Húrin? I enjoyed reading it very much.
No, the new one; The Legend of Sigurd & Gudrun
It's out today. I had to unpack hundreds of them at work today.
Gosh, I really need a pic...I've read The Children of Hurin as well, a great and gloomy read. My cup of tea.
I'm going to finish up [Book: Weaveworld] here at some point, I swear. Then I need to read Crowlely's [Book: Moonchild], and then I want to FINALLY hit [Book: Cloak of Magic]. I'm running way behind...
I'm reading:Redwall
The Crown Conspiracy
Cloak of Magic
I know I know I've read Crown Conspiracy a dozen times but I started re-reading in April and have just a bit to go and want to "finish it up. Redwall I just started and it is going really fast - I love YA for fast fun reads. I really want to get to Cloak of Magic especially since I'm already late but it is "on computer" and after a day reading on screen it is tough for me to pick it up this way. I think I might have to print it to get me reading.

What a cool idea to post your reading plan like you did Jon...I'm going to look into doing that myself!

Jon, you are too organized! My reading plan is very loosely organized. I have a line of books across the top of the bookshelf at the end of my bed, plus a couple of odd stacks. That's my "I haven't read, plan to read next" pile. There are also multiple sticky notes, such as 're-read "Lord of Light" for group'. When I finish a book, I look through all of this & pick which ever seems the most appropriate at the moment.
Jim - I'm in your camp. I do have my bookclub reads listed out but otherwise I have my "to-read" section at home and I just pick from there according to mood. And like everyone I'm behind in my reading. There are simply not enough hours, especially since I like to actually read and enjoy each book - not just fast forward through

Isn't Redwall a great book! So imaginative! It is one of my favorite YA series.
I'm a couple hundred pages away from finishing The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I'm plodding along with it right now, but still enjoying it for the most part.I'm also reading Singularity Sky by Charles Stross, a sci-fi, which I'm loving so far.
Next will probably be A Clash of Kings, but it's not set in stone.
I didn't get to half the books I thought I would for April. Then again, I also read some I hadn't initially planned on... so my list this month is rather similar to last month:Currently reading To Say Nothing of the Dog Then the plan goes, in no particular order:
Faerie Lord
Little (Grrl) Lost (Newford Book 20)
Fablehaven Grip of the Shadow Plague
Attack of the Fiend
I may push some of the faerie stories off, though, 'cause I'm actually, presently, kind of in the mood for horror or something dark, so I might go with Living With Ghosts.
At some point I also want to reread Good Omens The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch.
Probably won't get to all of these, anyway... if I stay in a horror mood, I might have to look for more in that direction.

It certainly is. It was my first experience with Gaiman and Pratchett both, and sold me on both writers. I'll definitely try to fit it in, especially if we get to discussion and it looks like I need a refresher...
I'd love to go over [Book: Good Omens] again. I last read it about two and a half years ago, and it's one of my all-time favorites. I just don't think I have the time. Never enough bloody time...
Hello all, I am a new member here. Love so many of the books already listed here and many that I don't know sound great. I am currently reading 'The Curse of Cjaholian' by Lois McMaster Bujold which has been a wonderful surprise for me. I think it is a wise, humane and entertaining book that on its surface might strike one as pedestrian Fantasy but has quite profound depths to it. After that I might pick up the next in the series Paladin of Souls. I am also planning to read the 2nd book in Paul Park’s wonderful Roumania series (which reminds me of John Crowley-though much more accessible).
This month I plan to reread R. Scott Bakker's Prince of Nothing series:The Darkness That Comes Before
The Warrior Prophet
The Thousandfold Thought
All in anticipation of reading the eagerly awaited 1st book in the new series: The Judging Eye.
As before-going-to-bed reading, I've started Chester Himes' The End of a Primitive (or, The Primitive as my edition has it).

PS -- Welcome to the club, Sam!
I really enjoyed the Chalion books, too. Wonderful writing.
What would I like to read, if it weren't my busiest month...Deadhouse Gates
White Night
The Well of Ascension
To Say Nothing of the Dog
Fall of Thanes
Fool A Novel
The Terror A Novel
Memories of Ice
Avempartha
I haven't a hope of getting through them all!

Amidst a schedule that has not permitted enough kick back reading time, I'm into Griffin's Daughter, People of the Book, and looking at a long overdue reread of Tigana. The minute I can scramble together a trip to the bookstore, I'll be picking up some new titles, the two recent releases by C J Cherryh at the head of the list.
Oooh, C.J. Cherryh has some recent releases? What are the titles, Janny? She's been one of my faves in the past, but I haven't read anything by her recently.
Leslie wrote: "Oooh, C.J. Cherryh has some recent releases? What are the titles, Janny? She's been one of my faves in the past, but I haven't read anything by her recently."Conspirator, in her latest Atevi series.
Regenesis, the sequel to Cyteen.
Prolific lady!
I've read:Gulliver's Travels
The Battle of the Labyrinth
The Last Olympian
I plan to read:
Wondrous Strange
Uglies
Pretties
Touching Darkness
Firebirds Soaring An Anthology of Original Speculative Fiction
I never have a plan, but so far I've read Dead Until Dark. That was a fun vampire mystery!Fool A Novel by Christopher Moore. Just okay for me. I liked A Dirty Job a lot better.
And I'm now reading Lisey's Story
Just finished the 3rd book in the trilogy by C.L. Wilson. Very enjoyable and I am disappointed that the 4th book is not quite submitted yet per her website info. Currently reading the late Robert Asprin's Dragons Wild.
Libby wrote: "Robin wrote: "I'm reading:Redwall. Isn't Redwall a great book! So imaginative! It is one of my favorite YA series."
Yes it is Libby! I just finished it yesterday and will write a full review soon but I loved it. Very fun read.
Elise wrote: "I'm a couple hundred pages away from finishing The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I'm interested to hear your "take on it" once you get there.

Hey Sam welcome....
I was intriguqed by what you said about "
The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold. This is new to me and I have addeded it to my TBR pile.
Robin wrote: "Sam wrote: "Hello all, I am a new member here. Love so many of the books already listed here and many that I don't know sound great. I am currently reading 'The Curse of Cjaholian' by Lois McMa..."
You're both in for a very fine read. Bujold always delivers.
JG wrote: "I never have a plan, but so far I've read Dead Until Dark. ..."JG - the whole series is a pretty fun, light read. Great books to take on vacation. Enjoy!
Sam wrote: "I am currently reading 'The Curse of Cjaholian' by Lois McMaster Bujold which has been a wonderful surprise for me. Everything you said and more. I reread it often.
I just finished Neverwhere...Ya I know I'm behind. I really enjoyed it. Need to write a review. Now on to Cloak of Magic!
Hey Libby,Fun light reads are my favorites!! That's the real reason Michael writes to please me ;-p
I've not read any of the Sookie Stackhouse books - would you recommend the one you just mentioned or should I start with a different one?
Hey Robin - yes, I'd start with Dead Until Dark. They are fun series with just enough romance and danger to keep you hooked. As with many series, they can get a bit repetitive so I'll read one, read some other books and then come back for the next. There is also an HBO show - True Blood - based on the books but it's quite a bit darker than the books.Don't worry about being behind - I'm right there with you! I saw posts up for the June book and I was like WAIT I'm not even out of the May books!
My goal is to read through the Drizzt books by the end of June. Just about the finish The Dark Elf Trilogy, so I'm off to a good start. I'm really enjoying these, and can't believe I had never read them.
Just finished The Ghost Brigades which was very good. Now, I'm reading an ebook version of Jane Eyre prior to reading The Eyre Affair.
I just finished The Name of the Wind last night. It was very good, I just thought it was a bit over hyped by all the glowing reviews on it. The ending was pretty creepy. Looking forward to what's next for Kvothe. Now, I'm reading Sabriel by Garth Nix.
Libby wrote: "Hey Robin - yes, I'd start with Dead Until Dark. ..."Cool,
Thanks Libby I'll start there.
Elise wrote: "I just finished The Name of the Wind last night. It was very good, I just thought it was a bit over hyped by all the glowing reviews on it..."I enjoyed this book - but was not pleased with the ending. I wish he would have broken it up along more "completed" lines - like one as a child (maybe up to where he goes to school. THen one at school, and start a new book after he leaves etc.
I'm really not making much progress on InkHeart which I've actually been reading on and off now for a few months. I picked up DragonFlight and will start reading that in a few days.
Finished The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie and started Before They are Hanged.I don't see what all the hype around the book was about. I enjoyed reading it and the fact that I started to read book II immediately after the book I, instead of taking a break and reading at least one stand alone says a lot, but it is not outstanding. It is not brilliant, fantastic. It is just quite good :)
One serious flaw, is a missing map. I think I have seen somewhere on Joe's blog or his website that he doesn't like maps and thinks it is unnecessary but I disagree and thanks to a The First Law's fan Scubamarco, who created 2 wonderful maps, I can enjoy the books a lot more.
@Astra: I loved The Blade Itself and plan to read Before They Are Hanged next week. Last Argument of Kings is in the mail. I also sorely missed the maps and appreciated the fan cartographer.
Megan wrote: "I am currently reading Graceling by Kristin Cashore. It's a YA Fantasy novel. So far so good!"Oh, I liked that one - I think there's a sequel to be published this fall.
Elise wrote: "I just finished The Name of the Wind last night. It was very good, I just thought it was a bit over hyped by all the glowing reviews on it. The ending was pretty creepy. Looking forwa..."I got bogged down in The Name of the Wind and haven't picked it up in weeks, I really need to get back to it. I love the Abhorsen Trilogy, hope you enjoy it.
Meanwhile I'm re-reading Harry Potter for the billionth time. Just starting the sixth book today, so almost there and then I can focus on all my other books that I haven't actually read before, like The Name of the Wind, The Rings of Saturn, Anna Karenina, Savvy, etc, etc.
I have all the Harry Potter books on CD so that I can't be tempted to re-read them over and over again when I should be reading things I haven't read before. Hehe.
