I read this book in the seventies. It was about a young boy(I think) who lived in a cabin beside a river. I seem to remember there was an Indian in a canoe who lead him on a quest to find something (feathers maybe or arrows?) to return to someone. His mother might have been Indian and was either dead or missing. Can't remember anything else about it except that I think the author might have been Canadian.
