Rachel (rachelbrosswalsh) | 7 comments This book starts when a girl in boarding school is told that her parents died in an accident (maybe a plane crash), but she's not really upset because she didn't feel she really knew them. The book is written in the first person and she states that headmistress was surprised by her "lack of histrionics." Because her parents are dead she ends up going to stay with a distant relative (an uncle?) on school vacation in New York City, and it's a transforming experience for her as it ends with her having a sense of family. I remember the last line in the book was something like "I had been trying to decide if I was just visiting or if this was my new home, and as the train pulled out, I had my answer." She also had a friend at school called "Trink" or "Trinck" or something, and they have a falling-out and she's afraid that when she goes back to school, the now former friend will harass her (as she had seen her do to other girls). There's also a nice boy she's seeing who's more of a friend than a boyfriend. (Another detail I happen to remember: I believe it's mentioned that the boy has acne.) Note the book was most likely written in the early 1970s or before because the author used the term "necking" and because train travel is how the girl gets to and from school. It was a really great book and I remember how touching that ending line was. I'd love to read it again.

Oh my god I think you are right!!! Thank you SO much!!! I would have never thought of that title! Just ordered it from the library now. (One library in C/W MARS (central & western Massachusetts) has it.) Thank you again. I really appreciate it!

Rachel (rachelbrosswalsh) | 7 comments I ended up not being able to get Just Morgan from a library, but I found it used online and I purchased it. It came in the mail today, and it definitely IS the book I remember. You can move this to the "solved" file now. And again thanks so much!!!
