Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Sure. It's pretty basic.

Baroness Blue | 23 comments Thanks, but I need permission to access it. I sent a request but i have no idea where that ends up going.

message 53: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Try it now. I changed it to share with anyone with the link.

message 54: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Jus looked a this Mary. You've done an awesome job. While I would agree with the assessment of The Dovekeepers being a book about exraordianry women, I don't think it has much to do with women gaining the right to vote.

message 55: by ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (last edited Aug 02, 2013 12:12PM) (new)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments The books do not have to have anything to do with the women's right to vote. They just have to be written by female authors.

From the challenge:

#7: Girl Power: books by female authors in honor of women in the US getting the vote on 8/18/1920.

message 56: by Nancy from NJ (last edited Aug 02, 2013 12:15PM) (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Oh OK when you said in honor of women geeting the vote I thought it was a bit more specific. I think in honor of through me off since there is an implication that these authors had something to do with the vote, or at least to me.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments The spreadsheet is great, Mary.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 362 comments I can see how you came to that conclusion, Nancy. It was more specific when we were making the plans for the challenge but I am pretty sure that was before you joined the team, now that I think about it.

message 59: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) We have met our minimum book requirement for each category. So now it's just a matter of hitting 75.

message 60: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Thanks for listing the spread sheet. It's good to see where we are with the spell it out, to try to get the letters that we need.

I'll read for "P" next, after I finish this book (within the hour). And a book I'm waiting on starts with "O" and comes out on the 15th if that letter hadn't been covered yet.

message 61: by Nika ♥Marie♥ (new)

Nika ♥Marie♥ (mylknhoney) The Unidentified Redhead (Redhead, #1) by Alice Clayton fits the summer fling. It's like 276 pages, female author, it takes place on the west coast in California, there are beach scenes.

message 62: by Karsyn (last edited Aug 05, 2013 07:24PM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) If reading the spreadsheet and noting the others, for the spell it out, we still need one more E and an O, correct?

Gonna read a shorter (212) book, with an E name for author.

message 63: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) I didn't make the second spell-out page. Vicky might have worked on the spreadsheet. I was just coming on to update and I see someone using the spreadsheet and I am assuming it's Vicky.

message 64: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) We have 3 E's, we just need an O! :)

message 65: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) I will let you work your voodoo magic on the spreadsheet and update the thread posts tomorrow.

message 66: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Oh darn, I only saw 2 Es, and read an E last night. O well. LOL!

I'll look over my Os and read one today.

message 67: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Books can be moved around.

message 68: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Just need an O for the spell out it will be done. Minimum is met on all the categories so now it's just fill-in.

message 69: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Reading an O titled book now. 20% in. If I don't finish it tonight, I'll have it done in the morning.

message 70: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) The Spell it Out part is completed and we have 35 books out of 75 completed.

Books can be moved so if another book is read that only works for the spell-out, we'll just move something. Probably not going to be an issue.

message 71: by Mary X (last edited Aug 07, 2013 07:11PM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) OK got the spreadsheet all updated. Found some stragglers.

All categories have at least a couple of books so just need to hit 75. We have 42 done. At this rate we will be done pretty darn quick.

message 72: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) We'll need a mini challenge for the last half of the month.

I'm reading Divergent, so a longer one. Dunno if I will get it done tomorrow, probably by Fri.

message 73: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Brooke - Is Divergent the first book?

message 74: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Nancy wrote: "Brooke - Is Divergent the first book?"

Yup it is. I'll probably finish it today. I'm half way through and really enjoy it.

message 75: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I just looked for this at one of my libraries and there are 8 holds on it already. I have to check another library to see what their hold period is otherwise I'll probably download it. That said, I didn't care for The Hunger Games- never read the last book but from the blurb of Divergent it does sound good.

message 76: by Riya (new)

Riya Divergent is fantastic!! You both have to tell me what you think when you finish!

message 77: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Riya wrote: "Divergent is fantastic!! You both have to tell me what you think when you finish!"

JUST finished it. LOVED it!! :)

message 78: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) 49/75 books done. Might be 50. There's a book with a questionable page count on Holly QC's shelf. So that one depends on how the mods vote.

message 79: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) That does it- I'm going to download Divergent right now. Don't forget you made me do it.

message 80: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Started Insurgent last night. 34% in. Will probably finish it up today.

message 81: by Riya (new)

Riya Awesome Brooke!! Soon you'll be dying for allegiant with the rest of us fans :)

message 82: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I did download Divergent yesterday. A really good price of $3.99. Now the only thing is when will I be able to begin it. LOL

message 83: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Riya wrote: "Awesome Brooke!! Soon you'll be dying for allegiant with the rest of us fans :)"

Oh, already am. Finished Insurgent around 4 today. :) I liked Divergent better, there was SO much craziness in Insurgent, but I still really liked it.

Hope you find time to start it soon Nancy.

message 84: by Riya (new)

Riya Haha same Brooke!!! If you like Divergent then you should definitely try out other dystopian series such as Legend by Marie Lu. Divergent and Hunger Games got me into dystopian books and I now moderate a huge dystopian book club so I'm pretty passionate :)

message 85: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I'll probably look at a few, see if anything catches my eye. It's not normally what I'd read (I'm more of an action/adventure, thriller, suspense) type person but I've been trying to read outside my comfort zone and I've found some books that I like, so yay! :)

I saw that you are (re?) reading Incarceron ~ that's been on my TBR pile for a while. I just haven't gotten around to trying it yet.

message 86: by Riya (new)

Riya In that case you must recommend some thriller or suspense books for me (adult ones are fine) the only adult authors I've tried are Dan brown, Michael Crichton, and Khalid hoisseini- and those three were all amazing.

And yeah I loved incarceron the first time around so I'm just regrading it before starting the sequel! It's quite complex but it was a really well told story!

message 87: by Karsyn (last edited Aug 09, 2013 10:04PM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Oh there are so many. Let's see, my favorite murder mystery/thriller is Chris Carter starting with The Crucifix Killer (very gruesom). Great stuff, I love him. I also loved ~ The 13th Hour, Think of a Number, Kill Me Once, Jennifer Hillier's Creep & Freak.

I like romantic suspense and enjoy ~ Catherine Coulter's FBI series, J.D. Robb's Eve Dallas series, Chelsea Cain's Gretchen series (though it's been boring me the last 2 books, the first few were good).

I compared our books. I read Wake, and it was ok, not my favorite thing ever but it was enjoyable. But I must say try Ready Player One!! One of my favorite books, EVER!! If I remember correctly, you're young, so read it near an older (30s-40s) person if you need help with any of the 80s references. There are TONS. I missed half of them because I was sheltered in the 80s but it's still a fun fun book! :)

Oh and The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern , the most beautifully written book ever!! :D Not the above genres, but WONDERFUL!!

message 88: by Sarah (last edited Aug 13, 2013 08:14PM) (new)

Sarah | 135 comments Nancy - I think Divergent is not written well at all and is not that great so far - not for me. I am 1/2 way through the book. My opinion.

The book picks way up over half way through - but then it ends very abruptly. I know there are sequels - but I literally turned the page and it said -Acknowledgements. I was like - Oh that was the conclusion? I will read Insurgent though.

message 89: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 135 comments I do agree though - the night circus is gorgeous writing. I loved it. And I love Khalid Hoisseini.

message 90: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Sarah wrote: "Nancy - I think Divergent is not written well at all and is not that great so far - not for me. I am 1/2 way through the book. My opinion."

Ok - I'll have to read Divergent to see what I think. Still looking for that "in the mood" book now.

message 91: by Riya (new)

Riya So tru Brooke- The Night Circus had amazing visuals!! Honestly a great book! And what Khaled Hoisseini do you like Sarah? Divergent isn't for everyone; it's entertaining and fast paced but by no means perfect.

message 92: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) We hit 75 books. I just submitted our finished challenge for approval. We are awesome!

message 93: by Riya (new)

Riya YEAH :D
