Seriously? Well I'm only on page 8, so will give it a go, and if that fails, will do exactly what you did!

I've seen so many reviews where the readers were utterly confused by the first part. I shall attempt!:-)

Amy No Tess is a definite plus. I did not like that character one bit.

I'm on page 81 and it's difficult to really get into it so far. I think it's the way it's being narrated.

Alan (alanmccluskey) Still reading Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception. It's slow going. Not because of the book, which is really good, but because I got involved in the frenzy of NaNoWriMo. If anyone is interested in talking about the subject I'd willingly set up a discussion group elsewhere to do so.

Sorry to take so long to reply - busy week at the library.

First thing to bear in mind it that this community centre manager once remarked that libraries remind her of cemetaries, she thinks being quiet is just too creepy!!
For her reading is a trivial hobby strictly for free-time not for when you are being paid (minimum-wage) to do 'real' work.

edited to add: I won't hi-jack the thread with my opinions on attitudes to the library but if I get round to writing a blog post I will link it.

Ashley (bestashleyever) | 3 comments Currently reading the Luxe series. (The Luxe, Rumors, Envy, & Splendor)

The plot halfway through the first book appears to be a massive trainwreck & a headache. lol. But I'm moving through it quickly enough. I've read some reviews for them all and they seem to be at 50/50 as far as good & bad go. Only time will tell!

It's awfully remniscent of Gossip Girl, however. lol. It's hard enough to keep straight who's interested in who!

Also just started the audiobook version of Flash Burnout Flash Burnout by L.K. Madigan which is funny so far.

I didn't care for it. But I didn't care for The Perks of Being a Wallflower which most people really liked either. They felt similar to me. I didn't feel any connection.

Alyson (Kid Lit Frenzy) (alybee930) | 446 comments I am reading Five Flavors of Dumb Interesting concept, short chapters make it read quickly, and likable characters. Some of the deafness stuff is a little off though (if you know about deafness) - most people probably won't notice it.

message 2627: by Amy (new)

Amy Yeah I gave up on Alaska. Not my style. Too many good books out there to waste on one I'm not into.

I'm now reading Wedding Girl which isn't YA but one I've been wanting to read.

Madeline | 89 comments Amy wrote: "I absolutely love Roswell too. Glad Max and Liz did end up together in the end but would have liked it to go further. Might have to look into the books."

No Tess doesn't hurt my feelings either. I felt their relationship was so shallow and unbelievable. My favorite characters were Maria and Michael until the last season, where I actually started to dislike Maria and her deviation into stardom. That season my favorite characters were Kyle and Isabel. I loved his dry wit!

message 2629: by Arya (new)

Arya (izlandzadi) | 686 comments I love Kyle too! But Maria was great the whole time for me, as was Michael. I really got mad at Max after Tess, and then he broke into that gas station with Liz and they got in trouble. . . I still loved him, but Michael took over as my favorite guy.

Isabel was always great!! I missed Alex so much in season three, but her husband was sort of cool too . . . though their relationship seemed sort of rushed.

Kellyflower | 136 comments I've started several books:
Priest, Volume 1. Prelude for the Deceased by Min-Woo Hyung
Homeschooling The Challenging Child A Practical Guide by Christine M. Fields
Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, # 1) by Cassandra Clare
and
Undercover (Federation Chronicles, #1) by Lauren Dane **NOT a YA book***

So far Undercover has my attention lol.

message 2631: by Amy (new)

Amy I loved Michael, but only with the spiky hair. I hated the long hair. Loved Max (those abs were to die for) and of course Max and Liz were my favorite couple!

Arya (izlandzadi) | 686 comments Yes Michael looked best with the spiky hair! I was always sad that Kyle didn't get someone to love!!

I loved Roswell, too. My husband did raise an eyebrow. First Buffy then Roswell - why is a woman in her 30s addicted to a drama about High School kids? (He's got used to it now :0)

Couple-wise I thought Michael and Maria were most interesting but my favourite female character was Isabel. And I missed Alex so much. I also though Sheriff Valenti was pretty sweet, trying to help them out all the time.

message 2634: by Madeline (new)

Madeline | 89 comments Alex's leaving the show was really awful. I hated the way it happened too. Broke my heart.

Max and Liz, on again off again Oy drove me nutty, but I liked how they dealt with her reaction to his cheating.

Isabel was really awesome throughout. I loved the episodes where she got to mess around with her character, like the New York versions and the old school TV show. Not hard to see why she broke out into bigger things. Her performances and Maria's I think really stood out in versatility.

Same here Esther! Buffy is my all time favorite! My husbands been drug into it though. He's addicted to Joss Whedon mostly because of Firefly.

I can't believe I got so much flack over Buffy and now everyone is into YA!
My Hubby never warmed to Buffy but he did like Angel. On Doll's House he was so-so - he thinks Eliza Dushku is kick-ass - but there's not much enthusiam for Firefly.
I'm the Space fiend in this house, he prefers Horror.

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) I'm listening to Flash Burnout Flash Burnout by L.K. Madigan on audiobook. I've been snorting and chuckling to myself every time I have it on. Pretty funny, but deals with serious subjects too. So far, so good.

Started reading Life As We Knew It Life As We Knew It (Last Survivors, #1) by Susan Beth Pfeffer last night on Kellee's strong recommendation. OMG!! I wanna stay home from work today and read non-stop. Loving it already!!

Kathy what did you think of the Replacement?
I was disappointed in it.

message 2639: by Amy (new)

Amy I was totally obsessed with Buffy. In my house when Buffy was on, my husband wasn't even allowed to come into the room.

I hate how Maria's mom was sort of just moved off the canvas. She was quirky. My all time most hated Roswell ep was that End of the World one when future Max came back and Liz had to pretend to have slept with Kyle. So sad.

message 2640: by Madeline (last edited Nov 10, 2010 03:24PM) (new)

Madeline | 89 comments Maria's mom was awesome. I had hoped they would officially hook her and Valenti up so Kyle and Maria would end up siblings, I thought that was a lost plot moment. That was a hard episode to get through... I'm still not sure it had any point plotwise. Just him coming back would change the future right? I think the worst one for me was when Maria's ex beau came back and made her feel like she was giving up on herself... only to have her ditch music anyway? I felt like it was a deviation that only made me feel like she was selfish. Although it was probably realistic in their situation, she was never like Liz where she knew she wanted in no matter the loss.

Haha at this rate I definitely need to get into the book series. This whole discussion has made me want more Roswell!

message 2641: by Jillian (new)

Jillian (j_phantasmagoria) | 1 comments Just finished A Posse of Princesses which, while it could do with a cover revamp, was really quite a good read. It did take a bit to get into the meaty bits but was described well. It's not as great as her Wren to the Rescue series but it's a nice little spin off.

The main character, Rhis, seemed a bit weak to me at times but I enjoyed the supporting cast even though the plot was a bit too apparent. The ending however, threw in a tiny twist that made it all the more bearable. All in all, lovely book and would definitely read it again.

Did anyone every have the crisis like me where they thought that maybe Max didn't really come back from the future at all and the whole thing was just Tess messing with Liz's head so she could get Max!!

I thought of that one time and it just hasn't let me alone. What if Liz went through all of that for NOTHING!!

Anyway . . . I thought Maria was GREAT, but you're right, Isabel was THE BEST. I love the Christmas Nazi one!!

message 2643: by Amy (new)

Amy I never heard that theory Arya! That would have indeed been bad. It was bad enough she messed with Alex and ended up killing him. But at least she got what she deserved when she came back with the baby.

message 2644: by Arya (new)

Arya (izlandzadi) | 686 comments Yes . . . though by then I felt a little sorry for her (not enough to be sad she died, but still). I don't think anyone else has that theory except for me, but I just think that Max loves Liz soooo much, I can't imagine him telling her what Future Max did, but then I know he loves Isabel and Michael too. I don't know it just always seemed like a distinct possibility to me.

I miss Alez *sobs*. He was SO sweet, and he was about to catch Isabel I just know it . . .
I was really sad that Tess and Kyle didn't get together, I think that would have solved the whole "she gets so annoyed she leaves" thing that future Max was worried about, but noooo, let's torture the characters some more!

I wonder if there is some deeper meaning to the fact that we who liked Roswell also enjoyed Buffy and Angel? Don't know what it could be but . . . seems sort of interesting to me!!

message 2645: by Arya (last edited Nov 11, 2010 07:34AM) (new)

Arya (izlandzadi) | 686 comments I feel like I have hijacked the What Are You Reading Now forum for a disscusion of Roswell - sorry to everyone who cares nothing about this TV show.

I am reading Warbreaker (not YA)and let me just say it is one of the best books I have read in a long time! Maybe it is because I am new to the whole "epic fantasy" genre, but I am eating this up!

I actually really enjoyed it. I thought it was a very original story in the field of quickly growing fantasy for young adults/teens. I think Maggie Stiefvater's strong recommendation of it influenced me, too.

message 2647: by Amy (new)

Amy I have The Replacement on my to be read list since it sounds so good. Not sure about Extraordinary since I don't like fairy stuff. But I loved Impossible by the same author so maybe.

message 2648: by Madeline (new)

Madeline | 89 comments You know Arya, my husband had the same theory about Tess and Future Max, just the idea of it killed me, so I chose to not believe it... lol. I also thought Tess and Kyle should have ended up together instead of faux sibs, they actually had chemistry, and that disappointed storyline was the only time I kind of liked Tess.

I think for me Buffy, Angel, Roswell, Firefly, etc. have what I love in fiction most, an unlikely combination of individuals who are brought together to work towards, or keep secret, a common interest. Where no one individual is the hero, all have strengths that keep them from going belly up or losing hope.

On another note, I'm still reading Tam Lin, which is long, but I'm nearly done. It's been really good but while the first half of the book was the first year of college for Janet the main character, the second year has taken half that and I still feel like the plot has only been ever so briefly brushed against. There's only a quarter left and I'm feeling it now coming on like a stampede's rush. Yet the writing is excellent and I'm not sure that the slow lead up hasn't made the plot's eventual arrival all the more exciting. There can certainly be no argument that the characters aren't well known or understood.

message 2649: by Amy (new)

Amy Well for me, Angel was hot (for a vamp). There were several episodes I really hated in season seven but ultimately liked the way the series ended. But what really drew me to the series was basically how she kicked everyone's rear end and was super confident. Also really liked Spike. Never really got into Firefly but it was Joss Whedon so I gave it a try.

Just started 13 Little Blue Envelopes tonight and I'm really enjoying it. It's a fast easy read. Plus it reminds me of my trip to London when I was in college.

Wow I cannot believe that someone else had the same thoughts about Future Max - that's great . . . well actually really sad (I wish I could un-think that idea) but still cool!!

I liked Angel better than Buffy the Vampire Slayer as far as plot and stuff. . . but then I started Buffy in the third season and the went right to Angel season one so I had perspective, whereas for Buffy I didn't really know what was going on.

I have only seen the third season and in it I didn't really like Spike AT ALL. A lot of people seem to like him . . . guess I will have to start Buffy up again!

Still reading Warbreaker - I am going to be SO SAD when it is over, it is SOOOOO good!
