Yeah, I finished Life on Hold last night and then I started The Angel Experiment. I was in the mood to try a YA book this time!
Kathy wrote: "I'm a fan of Green's, too. I'm not sure why I haven't read Paper Towns yet. I plan on getting to it soon." It was as wonderful as Looking for Alaska. I have read Katherines yet, but that will be read as soon as I can fit it in! :)

An Abundance of Katherines is one of my favorite books, Kellee. Thanks for the positive feedback on Paper Towns
Heather wrote: " Is that series planned for a certain number of books?"I read that Angie Sage is going to write 7 books in the series. Syren is the 5th, so 2 more. She could write many more books about the Septimus Heap universe. There are so many interesting people and many different places to explore. I am now reading Syren.
Had to chime in when I saw John Green, I loved An Abundance of Katherines.I just read
If I Stay which I kept seeing mentioned places but somehow completely missed what it was about. But it was a good story once I accepted that the main character had more on her mind than whether or not to go to Julliard...
I wish I could read 17 books a ta time but instead I'm reading just the one The Elegance of the Hedgehog
I finally finished reading Syren by Angie Sage. It was a good read, but very long. Even though I read the other 4 books, I couldn't remember all the people that were referenced in the story. Definately best to read the books in sequence.I am still reading Nightshade and I've started Bone by Bone by Carol O'Connell. Not YA, I know!
Alisha wrote: "I just finished A Great and Terrible Beauty and I loved, loved, loved it! I thought it was amazing."I have had that whole series sitting on my shelf for months and I haven't been able to get to them yet. I want too, but I'm trying to get to my new releases first so I can review them.
Sara ♥ wrote: "I just started The Three Musketeers, which is going to take a WHILE to read..."I'm ashamed to say I've never read that. I need to.
Heather wrote: "I'm reading the long awaited (as in an excruciatingly long hold list at the library) The Magicians by Lev Grossman. Really good so far. Wish it was considered YA, tho..."It did win an ALEX award- I wonder if that qualifies it as YA? It should :)
I'm trying to read Magic Study by Maria Snyder right now (it's not actually categorized as a YA book though). It's actually really slow, a huge surprise after the fast-paced and wonderful Poison Study.
Heather, I read The Magicians and am curious to know what you think of it. Post again when you're done! And I think it's not a YA book because there is a fair amount of reference to sex and other adult situations. I definitely wouldn't want my 7th grade son to read it, at least not yet. I liked it while I was reading it, but was ultimately disappointed.
I bought the Warriors by Erin Hunter set of books for my soon-to-be 9 yr. old granddaughter and gave them to her this past weekend in an early birthday celebration (her birthday is actually on Valentine's Day). The first one is Into the Wild
and she is already finishing it and loves it. I have the first 3 myself and told her I was going to read the first one this week sometime. She called me this morning and talked to me about the book. It doesn't get better than that!
Oops, I'm going to go ahead and read Death of a Valentine by M.C. Beaton before Into the Wild by Hunter.
I'm reading Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder... which I consider BORDERLINE YA. The main character is 19.
I'm reading The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear by Walter Moers, I don't know if it counts for YA. It has interesting storyline and wild imagination by the author.
Finished The Hobbit: Or There and Back Again and now I'm reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling.
Alyson wrote: "I am reading The chronicles of Vladimir Tod: Eight Grade Bites by Heather Brewer...just plain fun."My fourth grade son, who is an advanced reader, just finished it and loved it. He's reading book two (9th Grade Slays). Are these appropriate, or should I be concerned?

Kirsten - The main character ages from 13 to 18 in the story. The first one is pretty okay for elementary but the books get darker as they move up (and that is from the author herself) and I anticipate that there will be more more boy/girl dating stuff. The first book primarily focuses on Vlad and Henry's interest in girls and wanting to date certain girls. I loved book one and it is a fun easy read. I can't wait to read the rest of them, but I see them as middle school and higher based on content.
Just started Holes, very weird beginning, but now I'm hooked! Can't wait to finish it!
Anyone seen the film? I'd never even heard of it until the other day. Looks really good... cast of thousands!

I've started Ender's Game. I'm a bit confused, but I'm sure I'll understand soon. Also, I'm somewhat appalled that the military is using very young children to train for their wars. I would think that socially and emotionally that would backfire. I'm merely on page 20, I haven't gathered much infomation.

The film was great! I'd highly recommend it! They really stuck to the book, also... except that Stanley isn't chubby...

I loved the book and the movie. I agree, Sara, that the movie was very true to the book. I thought Sigourney Weaver was great, as well as Jon Voight.

Oh, yes, he was absolutely wonderful in it, too.

@Sara and Kathy: When I have finished the book I will go search out the fil-um... I like Shia LeBoeff too! Book is great!

My son, who was 12 at the time, introduced me to the book. I loved it as well. As the others mentioned, the movie was great - not disappointing like so many movies based on good books!
I am reading the Lightning Thief - finally! My son has been begging me to read it, and I'm really enjoying it. We went to see the movie, and he was not at all happy with it as it diverged quite a bit from the book and left out some of his favorite parts. Taken on its own, the movie was pretty entertaining, but not nearly as good as the book.
Josh wrote: "Reading The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. It's a lot better than I thought it would be, but then I just sort of skimmed through it at the library so that..."Josh, I'm reading the sequel, The Ask and the Answer. Knife didn't grab me at first. (Funky typography? "Phonetic" spelling of the narration? Not promising, for me.) It took me over a week to get through the first third. Then I was suddenly hooked and finished the rest in two days. I'm trying to pace myself on Ask since I know it'll be months before the third book.
I just odered the first 3 books in the Percy Jackson series. May get Holes next. This thread has introduced me to so many YA books
Just finished Percy Jackson #5 (The Last Olympian)... *huge grin* It was fabulous!I'm going to read The Lost Symbol now...
It seems like everybody is reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians now that the movie came out recently.
