Beth wrote: "Right now I'm reading What I Saw And How I Lied. So far, so good."Boy, that looks good Beth! National Book Award winner too....! I'm a sucker for those. I've added it to my TBR mtn. You'll have to let me know what you think when you get to the end.
I've just realised that the book I've been reading for the past week, Hood, can be classed as YA, so there's that, and I just started Daughter of the Flames last night, it looks promising!
Just finished The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time - Mark Haddon (Audio). Will now carry on reading Broken Skin - Stuart MacBride (which is not a YA book).
I'm reading GEmma's push, Looking for Alaska, and I'm enjoying it enough to continue on with it. I'm looking forward to the philosophical discussions I have a feeling are coming, as the m/c is in a World Religions course taught by an interesting and enlightening man.
I'm reading The Battle of the Labyrinth finally and am loving it. Gearing up for the last in the series (supposedly) coming out in two days.
I read the first House of Night book and I liked it enough to pick up the second, although I don't remember much about it now. I'll have to re-read the first before the second. I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have to Kill You came to me for free and I was pleasantly surprised by it. It's a fun, cute story. Currently I'm a quarter of the way into The Forest of Hands and Teeth, which is an awesome title, by the way. There was so much buzz among my GR friends about it, and I'm using it for the challenge. It's great so far!
Yay, someone else who read I'd Tell You I love You...!!! Did you read Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy? I think I liked it even better than the first one.
I'm waiting to get it from the library. I handsold so many copies of the first one! It was a good one to recommend for the pre-teen girls who wanted teen books.
Yes, because it's darling, but also clean! There is a lot of trashy stuff out there for teen girls right now, sadly.
Exactly. Parents would come in and say "My 11 year old daughter likes the Clique novels but I'm not so sure..." and I'd steer them to something better. Like Ally Carter. I'm against censorship but I'm also against stupid books. Being a pre-teen or teen is hard enough without all sorts of mixed messages from books like the Clique and Gossip Girl.
I just started Tamar A Novel of Espionage, Passion, and Betrayal, for the second half of task 30.1. This book is going to take awhile: it's 424 pages of very small print. Reading this is making me think I need reading glasses!
I just started I Am the Messenger today(audiobook), and it's pretty fabulous so far! I'm only halfway through Disc 1 (of 7), but it's hilarious so far!
I'm currently reading You Remind Me Of You by Eireann Corrigan. It's a poetry memoir, put out by PUSH, so it's about some issue which affects teens, this one is about eating disorders. It's good, I'm not normally into books written in verse/poetry even though I like straight-up poetry if that makes sense...
Finished The Last Olympian last night and finished Wondrous Strange tonight. I think I may read The Book Thief next, not too sure.

It's a topic I used to read a lot of books on when I was younger, not so much anymore. It's also the first book of hers I've read since Speak, when I was 18. I'm also not too keen on books written in verse.
I like Laurie Halse Anderson. I've only read Speak though, which I thought was fantastic. What do you think of Wintergirls??
It's good, so far. I just started it tonight and then I was eating cookies so I had to put it down. Just didn't seem right. I'm already trying to think of what happy book I'm going to read after this one in case it's super depressing.
I'm reading The Graveyard Book now, and I just picked up The Giver, and am really looking forward to that as well (never read it - another book my daughter loved, so this has been neat).
Laura wrote: "I'm reading The Graveyard Book now, and I just picked up The Giver, and am really looking forward to that as well ..."I read The Giver for the first time as an adult and was really impressed. It's a quick read, but powerful.
Laura wrote: "I'm reading The Graveyard Book now, and I just picked up The Giver, and am really looking forward to that as well (never read it - another book my daughter loved, so this has been neat)."The Giver is one of my favorite books. Ever.

I sent it on to my 14 year old cousin.
Have you read Lock and Key? Did you enjoy The Truth about Forever? Anxious to get some input!! :)
I just finished Anne of Green Gables and I am moving on to Looking for Alaska. I was hoping to read The Graveyard Book but the library didnt have it (or Howl's Moving Castle for that matter). I am going to Borders next but doubt I will buy it. I have to wait until after Mother's Day just in case I get a book or two in my goody bag!
I love the Goose Girl, Heather! In fact, I love all of Shannon Hale's books, I just think she's brilliant! Rapunzel's Revenge is such a great retelling, and it's a graphic novel. I like it for a gift book.
I was reading People of the Book, but I'm not really into it right now, so I started Sorcery and Cecelia, or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot: Being the Correspondence of Two Young Ladies of Quality Regarding Various Magical Scandals in London and the Country today.
Oh my gosh, that so sounds like a book for me, I love those kind of convoluted titles!! I often buy books solely based on the title. Does that make me superficial? Anyway, let me know if it's a good one!
Michelle - The vast majority of reviews I've seen have been good ones for Sorcery and Cecelia. So far, I'm really enjoying it. It's been said that it's sort of a combination of Harry Potter and Jane Austen, which is a plus for me!
Cindy wrote: "I just received The Truth About Forever from Paperback Swap after reading Lock and Key and really enjoying it! I just finished that last night. I can't wait to hear what you think. I started a topic so I could talk about it, over at "Books Young People Should Read."
Kristen wrote: "If I finish this nonfiction book I'm reading tonight I'm going to start Touching Darkness."
I think Touching Darkness is my favorite of the Midnighters trilogy. I hope you enjoy it! He's one of my favorite teen authors writing now.
Jamie wrote: "It's been said that it's sort of a combination of Harry Potter and Jane Austen, which is a plus for me!"
I really enjoyed the Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede and I've heard good things about Sorcery and Cecilia, but no one ever described it to me like that! If they had I would have read it a long time ago. I know my library has it, so I'm going to pick it up next week. :)
Thanks Alexis, for the info. about Wintergirls. I've literally only read a few pages but I can tell I'm going to love it. When I was growing up one of my best friends had bulimia, so I've always been interested in eating disorders.
Alexis - I just hope Sorcery and Cecelia lives up to that description! I'm starting to think that fans of A Great and Terrible Beauty might actually like this book (from what I've read so far, anyway), even though I wouldn't really include myself in that group. Personally, I thought AGATB was okay, but I'm enjoying this book a lot more so far.
Alexis wrote: "Jamie, have you read any of Wrede's other books?"I haven't, but I think I'll have to look into this some more. I'll be sure to check out the Enchanted Forest Chronicles since you've mentioned them!
Jamie wrote: I haven't, but I think I'll have to look into this some more. I'll be sure to check out the Enchanted Forest Chronicles since you've mentioned them!"They're a wonderful, funny series. The first is Dealing With Dragons. They look at fairy tales from a very different slant.
Alexis - That series does look promising - I've added it to my TBR list. I've also taken a look at some of her other books and I'm really interested in Thirteenth Child. Have you read it?
Heather, my favorite Shannon Hale has to be Book of a Thousand Days. I also love all of the Bayern series.
I'm technically "currently-reading" Storm Thief but I think I need to read something really happy right now so I might put it down.
