Bhumi | 274 comments I finished Avalon High, Blue Moon, and The Summoning, all of which were enjoyable.

I'm almost done with Rebel Angels, which is annoyingly lengthy right now.

Amanda (amandaroby) Just started Flora Segunda (Being the Magickal Mishaps of a Girl of Spirit, Her Glass-Gazing Sidekick, Two Ominous Butlers [One Blue:], A House With Eleven Thousand Rooms, and a Red Dog), by Ysabeau S. Wilce, which easily wins for longest title. It's awesome so far.

Misty | 1505 comments Just came home from the library with I Capture the Castle, and Book of a Thousand DaysDaughter of the Forest. Not sure which I'm going to read first.

message 814: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Fiona wants you to read ICTC first...haha. I really enjoyed Daughter of the Forest...and I'm very curious about Book of a Thousand Days!

Geez :P guess I don't know where you should start either.

message 815: by Allison (last edited Aug 14, 2009 01:58PM) (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Fiona wrote: "I didn't think you liked Daughter of the Forest much Allison> Are you going to read the others? I really want to re-read that series. The first one was the best, third was okay but didn't match up ..."

no I really did like it! I gave it 4 stars I think. I didn't like the YA book by her though, Wildwood Dancing. I thought it was boring.

I don't know if I'll ever get around to the others or not.

message 816: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Fiona wrote: "Ooooh maybe I got confused. Well hurry up and read the rest of the series. I really wanna re-read them they were so beautifully written. And Red was just kinda hot as is Bran in the second. No book..."

yeah, Red was a book-crush.

message 817: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) you should read Summers at Castle Auburn. I think you'd like it.

message 818: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) oooo its already on your TBR :D

message 819: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Fiona wrote: "That's on my to-get tbr already, I'd forgotten about that. When I read my physical TBR I might move onto that ha-ha-ha."

great. Good thing I'm younger then you or I probably wouldn't make it that long.

message 820: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1505 comments I enjoy Shannon Hale, so I'm looking forward to it.

And Allison: I really liked Wildwood Dancing (but I was always a little obsessed w/ the 12 dancing princesses as a kid), and I have a friend who raves about this series, so...
And no, you weren't much help.
;)

Three of my favourites, Misty, hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
I'm on a bit of a Robin Mckinley jaunt at the moment, finished The Blue Sword the other day, then read Rose Daughter, and now I'm considering a re-read of The Outlaws of Sherwood... or Beauty A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast if it hurries up and gets to me in the post!

message 822: by Sara (new)

Sara (sarakd) I just finished Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick (which was amazing!) and Seeing Redd by Frank Beddor. I just starting reading Fire by Kristin Cashore, and so far it's pretty good. I really enjoyed Graceling so I imagine I'll enjoy this.

message 823: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1505 comments Sara: You have a copy of Fire already? I have it on request at the library, so I should get it the day it comes out.

Josie: I started I Capture...
I am planning on reading The Blue Sword and Beauty for the challenge (and Deerskin). Have you ever read Sunshine? I just finished that and it made me want to go on a McKinley jaunt too.

message 824: by Sara (new)

Sara (sarakd) You have a copy of Fire already? I have it on request at the library, so I should get it the day it comes out.

Misty--

I have a friend who works in a independent children's bookstore and receives *tons* of ARCs. She's reads them and passes them along to me. I got the ARC of Hush, Hush through my blog--we interviewed Becca Fitzpatrick and her publisher sent us a copy.

message 826: by Josie (new)

Josie (maid_marian) | 126 comments Misty, yep, I've read Sunshine - I found it very different to her other stuff, not sure I liked it...

I just finished reading Bloody Jack, and really enjoyed it, such a fun book!

Hannah | 1 comments Sara wrote: "I just finished Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick (which was amazing!) and Seeing Redd by Frank Beddor. I just starting reading Fire by Kristin Cashore, ..."

Fire is terrific! In my opinion it's even better than Graceling. I read it a few months ago and already can't wait to reread. Enjoy it!

I just finished Candor and am on to Sunrise Over Fallujah by Walter Dean Myers, which I've been meaning to read since forever...

message 828: by April (last edited Aug 16, 2009 04:06PM) (new)

April (booksandwine) | 312 comments I just finished North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell (lovely book, go read it!) and am now reading The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale. Something really cool about my copy is that I bought it used and I haven't opened it yet, so imagine my surprise when I open it and see all this writing on the title page. I examined the writing closer, and what do you know, it's signed by Shannon Hale. Awesome right?

message 829: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) that IS awesome! What a dummy.

(not you...the person that gave it away. lol)

message 830: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 390 comments The person who got rid of it is a complete fool!

message 831: by [deleted user] (new)

Can't really tell, but would Life of Pi be considered YA? In any case I'm not adoring it. I'm going to give it 30 more pages...

message 832: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 342 comments I'm starting The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I hope it's as good as everyone says it is.

message 833: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1505 comments I really need to work in some Murakami. It's been too long.

Anyway, I finished I Capture the Castle (5 stars, Fiona, you'll be happy to hear), and am starting Book of a Thousand Days.

OK... will carry on. Thanks, Heather!

message 835: by Natana (new)

Natana | 2 comments I'm reading 'Suck it Up'. I hope it gets better.....

I just finished 'Evolution, Me and Other Freaks of Nature', which I really loved.

message 836: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1505 comments Okay, this has nothing to do with books, but Natana is a neat name. :)

message 837: by Natana (new)

Natana | 2 comments Thanks! I've grown to like it.

message 838: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (theholyterror) | 6 comments I started [image error] last night at work.

It's a retelling of Cinderella and it really reminds me of the movie Ever After, which I love, with fairies. I like it so far.

message 839: by Sara ♥ (last edited Aug 22, 2009 05:18PM) (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments Next on the list is Hunger Games. I'm only about 2 pages into it.... the 1st-person present tense is already driving me crazy. (1st person is bad enough, but combined with present tense, which is also terrible... OYE!)

Does that go away? Or, in other words, how far into the book does it get good enough that I'll stop noticing what point of view it was written in?

message 840: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1505 comments I think with present tense, as soon as you get the feel for the characters voice and get into the flow of things, you stop noticing. I haven't read this yet, though, so I don't know.
I don't mind either form so long as they're done well.

message 841: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) I'm currently reading That Summer by Sarah Dessen. I needed something quick and sweet and this seemed like the right choice. So far, so good.

message 842: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments Glad to hear it!

message 844: by Katie (new)

Katie (katiemacbride) | 14 comments I just finished "Living Dead Girl" and it was great. I also really enjoyed "Twelve" by Nick McDonell. I can't decide what to read next! (On the adult side, I just finished "Einstein: His Life and Universe and it is one of my all time favorites. AMAZING!)

message 845: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 342 comments Last night I started Impossible by Nancy Werlin. I think it's going to be a good one.

message 846: by TLC (new)

TLC Nielsen | 43 comments I just finished Secret of the Sirens by Julia Golding - a definite fantasy book and can't wait to read more in the series. Reminds me of Fablehaven and Artemis Fowl combined in a new way. BTW - thanks for sharing what you're reading - it gives me new books I've never heard of before!

You're right. It got much better. I just finished it and I liked it, just didn't love it: very well written, interesting, shocking, pulled me through to the end, but only 3 stars.

I'm really liking it, about halfway through. I love stories that evolve from and revolve around a piece of folklore or fairy tale lore. I am reading through it at a pretty good rate, so it is definitely keeping my attention. If you have the paperback copy, don't you love the inside front cover, beautifully done.

message 850: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 719 comments Heather wrote: "I'm so glad you stuck with it Hayes! Thank you! :)

I just finished The Hunger Games and I couldn't start anything else new last night. I had to let that one settle a bit. "

How was it? I'm having a hard time wanting to read it, even though everyone says it's awesome...
