That's so funny because I was just asking my 13 year old cousin what her favorite book was and she said The Hunger Games, I went to look it up and then there was your comment.

You're my favorite K-chan!! I hope you're enjoying it...you're one of the people I'm pretty positive will enjoy it.

(wait, I expect EVERYONE to enjoy it...)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 390 comments Misty, I can see why you fell in love with Wildwood Dancing! I'm at the point where I can't put it down! I have so much to do today and it's killing me because all I want to do is sit back and read this book! I can't wait until bedtime! I think I'm going to have to stay up extra late.

message 459: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments Loved Wildwood Dancing too. The audiobook was excellent and I kept making excuses to clean around the house so I could listen to it.

message 460: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I have fallen in love with Anne. How could I have taken almost 40 years to read this book? Thank you, Allison:)

Don't you want your own Gogu? I wanted my own Gogu.

message 462: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Alright, you guys sold me on this book, Wildwood Dancing! It sounds so good! Thanks! :)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 390 comments Misty, I LOVE Gogu! I hope you enjoy it Kathy.

It's neat because at first you think it is a retelling of one tale, but it actually mixes in quite a bit: other fairy tales, mythology and eastern European folklore (and the language, which is neat). Definitely worth the read.

message 465: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments Currently halfway through Archer's Goon, which I'm loving! :)

message 466: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments I'll have to read more of hers one of these days. :)

message 467: by Jessika (new)

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) About 150 pages into New Moon...I like it so far, but it makes me sad that Edward's gone :(

message 468: by Kristen (new)

message 470: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) I'm currently reading Anne of Green Gables. I was going to start The Rover by Mel Odom, but wasn't in the mood for a YA fantasy.

message 471: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I just finished Anne of Green Gables and am taking a very small YA break. Well, I will be finishing The Goose Girl on audio, which has considerably improved!

message 472: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) yeah, the middle sans-Edward section of New Moon sucks :P I was so obsessed with that series though, if (*cough* that is, when) I re-read them someday I'll probably just skip that part :D

message 474: by Jessika (new)

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) Thanks for the encouragement everyone! It was my best friend who finally enticed me to pick up the series for the first time, and I love them so far! I don't think they're the greatest works of literature, but I can appreciate a good story, like anyone else. I'm pretty addicted!

My best friend has also been telling me to just keep reading...which, I do gladly because I enjoy this series. :)

message 475: by [deleted user] (new)

I finished Ella Enchanted and will continue to read Anne of Green Gables.

message 476: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments I couldn't help it and started Raven.

message 477: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1505 comments Reading something called Belle and the Beau. Not so great, honestly.

message 479: by Linda (last edited Jun 20, 2009 06:09PM) (new)

Linda Jamie, you mentioned a book being a cross between Jane Austen and Harry Potter, so you might be interested in checking out Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I haven't been able to get my daughter interested in reading the original P&P, so I picked up this parody for her for her upcoming birthday. Haven't had a chance to read it myself.

message 480: by Natalee (new)

Natalee (nataleem00) | 459 comments I am reading Alpha Dog which should be a funny light-hearted book. And I started The Boy in the Striped Pajamas last night. I was feeling "eh" about it but it captured my attention rather quickly.

message 481: by Linda (last edited Jun 20, 2009 06:13PM) (new)

Linda I'm reading the Uglies trilogy this summer; also just finished Stargirl and a book entitled Among the Hidden, the first in a series called the Shadow Children by Margaret Person Haddix. Anyone else familiar with this series? It's a bit below YA level IMO.

message 482: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Linda - I've been wondering what Austen fans thought of P&P&Z. I love the original and I'm not sure how interested I am in reading it with the addition of zombies, but I'm open to checking out some reviews. Maybe it's better than it sounds?!

message 483: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments I'm reading Neptune's Children, which I should finish tonight. Then, if I don't pass out from blogging exhaustion - I will start Graceling.

Two great series, Linda! Yes, Uglies is for a much older YA than the Shadow Children. Both are very good in their own way.

message 486: by Samantha McNulty (new)

Samantha McNulty I'm in a reading slump at the minute. Can't bring myself to read much at the minute..

message 487: by Vicki (new)

Vicki I am reading A Curse Dark as Gold.

message 488: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments Well, I'm forced into reading Eternal today since it's due and cannot be renewed. :) Graceling will just have to wait another day.

message 489: by Natalee (new)

Natalee (nataleem00) | 459 comments Me, too, Kristen... I was going to read Alpha Dog but the library called with I, Coriander. So I'm reading that first. I need to read all the library books first and mine last.

message 490: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (pricey) i just finished Speak and Catalyst by Laurie Halse Anderson. They were both pretty good... I liked Speak better. Reading Slaughterhouse Five now.

message 491: by [deleted user] (new)

Currently reading The Golden Compass. I am finding it much better than the movie which I didn't like at all.

I'm so bad for that that I wonder if I'm ever going to get to my own books...

Currently reading The Luxe, which came highly recommended by a few librarian friends, but though it's okay, I'm not seeing it.

I stopped buying and started "renting"!
Re: The Luxe - I had high hopes but it was just okay. I am a sucker for nice covers! But to me, I felt like I was reading Gossip Girl from another time period! It didn't have a lot of depth.

The Golden Compass is a great book. Are you going to read the other two books in the series?

message 495: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, I have all three at home from the library. I hope to finish them by the end of the month. I am enjoying The Golden Compass and am glad I picked it up.

I too picked this up because of the pretty cover (*looks sheepish*), but yeah, not too great a story - I guessed the 'twist' in the first chapter, and the rest of the book just seemed to be about describing every character's clothes in minute detail...

I'm reading two YA books at the moment, Mairelon the Magician, and Snakecharm.

I'm glad you like The Golden Compass. The other two books are very good as well.

Misty | 1505 comments Re: Josie and Natalee --
Yep. That is exactly what I am feeling. I feel like she is borrowing heavily from Edith Wharton (whom I love), but Wharton was a master, so she's not so much pulling it off...

message 499: by Kristen (last edited Jun 22, 2009 07:25PM) (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments Finished Mates, Dates, and Inflatable Bras and Eternal today. I'm going to either start The Forest of Hands and Teeth and/or Graceling when I get home tonight.

I'm way behind in the challenge because TNBBC's challenge is taking over my life!

Ohhhh, I've never read Edith Wharton but now you've peaked my interest! Which do you recommend I read first?
