Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments I've heard it in the news today. I couldn't believe it, because it wasn't known among the great public. Her first book is still on my table, waiting to be read.

Margo | 11628 comments Now that is a shock Peggy! Sad news.

I read The Orchid House and thought it was mediocre but I have The Seven Sisters on my wishlist.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments When I read the blurbs of her books they should work for me, but the one I read was such a bad experience that it really put me off reading anything by her again. Normally I would definitely give an author a second chance with a mediocre book, but this was just too far below even mediocre.

Different Jen but I'll answer -- what I am aware of that she wrote is a series about sleeping beauty published under the pseudonym A. N. Roquelaure. :)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Joan Didion died today. Her The Year of Magical Thinking and Blue Nights have helped me come to terms with a number of deaths in my circle in the last few years. RIP, Joan.

I saw that on Twitter yesterday. I haven't read any of Joan's books. I'm glad that you got meaning from her writing.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19202 comments I'm not sure how much coverage this will get, and not sure how many of you have read The Bone People, but NZ Booker Prize winner Keri Hulme passed away.

Janice (jamasc) | 59847 comments I am really saddened to hear that Betty White passed away today. It seemed she'd be with us forever, but just weeks before her 100th birthday we lost her. I haven't read any of her books, but I hope to fit one in over the next little while.

Katrisa | 4460 comments I listened to one of her books and it was delightful especially with her reading it. She will be missed

Oooh - audiobook would be the best with her narrating it... I'm off to check it out.

message 441: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Let us know if you find it, Janice.

I loved watching her too. I remember her from the game shows and Golden Girls too. I found out her birthday was the same day as my fathers. January 17th. She would have been 100 and my father would have been 89. He died this summer, in August.

message 442: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59847 comments There is an audiobook but it was only a couple of hours long and I didn't want to spend a credit on a short read.

I'm sorry to hear about your father, Cherie.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11257 comments I'm sorry about your father, Cherie.

message 444: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4524 comments I'm so sorry to hear about your father, Cherie. I didn't realize.
Betty White passing at just shy of 100 is remarkable, but lately I've been hearing about others (actors and otherwise) living long lives. Encouraging for the rest of us.

message 445: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19202 comments I also didn't hear about your Dad, Cherie. I'm so sorry to hear that you lost him so recently.

message 446: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Thank you all about my father.

message 447: by Margo (new)

message 448: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59847 comments I just read that Patricia A. McKillip died. She was 74. I've never read any of her books, though her titles have been on my radar.

message 449: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4020 comments I read three of Ms. McKillip's books for badge 1 of 2020's year long challenge, the Riddle-Master of Hed trilogy. She was a great fantasy author.

message 450: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Catching up on threads.

I have had McKillip's book, The Changeling Sea on my TBR list since 2013. So many books - so little time.
