So sad.

Of course I've read To Kill a Mockingbird at least twice and seen the movie several times.
And I've read books by Eco, too.

The Prince of Tides was a favorite of mine.

Debra, they are falling like flies :(

Me too Cherie. Sad that we're losing too many artists, musicians, and writers I grew up with.

News Article
ETA - Here's a better article from CBC News. I find MSN news tends to lean towards the sensational.

"Vladimir Zeldin, believed to be the world’s oldest working actor, has died aged 101, after spending 71 years at the same Moscow theatre.
The Russian actor appeared on stage as recently as last month, using a walking stick due to a broken hip, to appear in the play The Dance Teacher by the Spanish playwright Lope de Vega.
He had appeared in the play more than 1,000 times"

It's been a tough week.

His service dog is Tuesday and he has written a few books with Tuesday :-) no reason for his death has been said other than he did have some heart problems but they haven't said cause of death. He passed away a week ago and I just saw it on the news last night. My heart is broken. I really enjoyed Until Tuesday and I really want to read the rest of his books.

The El Paso newspaper also gives this info:
"Donations are being asked to be made in Montalvan’s name to ECAD or Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities. The organization can be reached at ECAD1.org, at (860) 489-6550 or P.O. Box 831, Torrington, CT., 06790."

I just heard about that too, Sarah. Like you, I haven't read the book but I did watch the film.
Janice wrote: "Carrie Fisher, author and actress best known as Princess Leia in Star Wars also died this morning."
:-(
:-(

So these people we are mentioning are celebrities and are not close to us but some of the people this year have had massive influences on peoples lives which can make their deaths more felt. In some cases, more than you'd expect.
Personally, i think 60 is young to die. I hope i live until I'm way past that. 90 sounds good to me thanks. Carrie Fisher died before her mother!
I agree that we should celebrate her life (and anyone else who has died) and what they have achieved and that will come but it is not the first thing that is done in the grieving process. I am speaking generally here about all deaths, not just Carrie Fisher or celebrities here.
